Applying changes to a text box within a form (edit mode)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'm using the free text editor (http://freetextbox.com) and set a property (DesignModeCSS) to the text box based on the theme being used at the time. The following code works just fine:

TextBox_Home.DesignModeCss = "App_Themes/" + GetCurrentTheme() + "/BackOfficeTextStyles.css";

What I've since done is to add the text box control into a FormView (edit mode), and I'm now not sure how to access the text control to apply the code above.

Any help is much appreciated.

How to put a TreeNode into Edit mode and make the text unselected

I have a c# app in which I would like to allow the user to enter new nodes in a TreeView control without having to use the mouse. I am able to intercept keystrokes in OnKeyDown, and the following code is working successfully: TreeNode newNode = new TreeNode( e.KeyData.ToString() ); Nodes.Add(newNode); LabelEdit = true; newNode.BeginEdit(); The problem is that the first letter in the node being edited is selected, which causes the following keystroke to replace the selected character.  Typing "HELLO" results in "ELLO", unless the user first presses the right-arrow key to deselect the selected first character. I tried setting e.Node.IsSelected = false in OnBeforeLabelEdit, but cannot because the IsSelected property is read-only. How can I programatically deselect the first character and position the edit cursor after the first character?

Edit as Text mode

We have a company who is hosting and managing a SQL Server Report Builder Server 3.0. There are times we have to choose the button Edit As Text so we can place an OR statement in the code instead of using an AND statement on the filters, and possibly other minor changes. (Thats the only way I know of doing this). After we deselect the Edit As Text button we get an error "Switching to Visual Designer will discard your manual changes." Is this a problem with Microsoft report builder by design or is it something our provider may have setup improperly.  This has made it difficult if we start to write the query and want to test results and then later decide we did something wrong and needed to add another field or make a change. Once we have Edited in text mode it seems we are stuck and if we don't know SQL that well we are in trouble. Any ideas of what our provider needs to do to fix? If it is a MS limitation, is there a work around that will allow us to bring over our work that was changed in the Edit Text mode back to where we can continue working in design mode?

Reg: Turn on more accessible mode & Skip to main content link message on Infopath2007 browser form

I have a infopath 2007 browser enabled form with c# code behind . The Infopath form is embeded\hosted in to a custom layouts page (.aspx) on MOSS 2007. The issue is when users use keyboard to fill the form, they often use <TAB> & <Enter> keys. So when they are using the tabbing at one location in the form, I have a "Contact selector" field, I enter a name & then hit <TAB> key the focus now comes to "name cheker" I then hit <Enter> key, I hit <TAB> again, the focus now comes to a button named "Accept", I hit <Enter> key & a filed below is populated with the values from user profile service. Now when I hit <TAB> I expect the focus should now come to that automatically populated field below the "Contact selctor". Because Infopath assings the tab order by default form top to bottom & left to right and I havent changed that default tab order.

But, the focus moves to top of the webpage with a clickable link to "Turn on more accessible mode" I hit tab one more time & the link on top changes to "Skip to main content". This bheaviour does not seem to be happning in other form controls when they hit <Tab>, <Enter>. There are couple of areas on the infopath form where I have such a controls (layed ou

Moved from WinXP to Win7 - don't see choice to open file in read only or edit mode

I just recently moved from Win XP Pro SP3 to Win 7 32-bit Pro. I am logging into domain X normally. Our Sharepoint 2007 server authenticates only on domain Y. So I start Internet Explorer with "run as different user" and provide my domain Y credentials. All fine.

In win XP, after I did this, when I click on an Excel file on Sharepoint, I would get a dialog asking if I wanted to check out and edit or open as read only.

In win7, I don't get that choice. The file simply opens, and I get a bar at the top which allows me to check out the file if I wanted to.

How can I restore the functionality I used to have, with the dialog for checking out the file before opening it?

Putting a text box in typeover mode.

I am using VB ASP.NET in Visual Studio 2008.  I would like to put some textboxes in typeover mode so that the user will not have to erase what is there before typing in the new text.

Is there a way to do this?  If so, please direct me to the code examples or give me the code that can do this.

  Thank you for your time.

How to read a column of a sharepoint list to a text string field of infopath form?

My infopath form used to read these email addresses from a web service and web.config file. Now i would like to get these user email addresses from a contact list in a sharepoint server. I am trying to do this without writing any codes. Here is what i have done so far: 1. Adding a new "data connection to receive data from SharePoint library or List" where i selected Email Address column of the contact list. 2. I added a new Text Field and define a new rule with "Query using a data connection" defined above. When i try to access the newly created Text field above it always return empty as if the Query attached to it did not executed at all. What did i do wrong? Is there a better way? Thank you in advance for your help.

Not always prompted for read-only or EDIT mode, when opening files with IE7, Sharepoint 3.0

Hello Everyone,   We use Sharepoint 3.0 and when I click on a document I get a pop up prompt that asks me whether I want to open the file in READ-ONLY or EDIT mode.   I use a machine with XP Pro that is running IE7.   A user called me today, also running IE7, and when he clicks to open a Sharepoint file he gets a different prompt - a simpler one that just offers OPEN or SAVE.   I don't care that his prompt looks different - the problem is that he is able to open the file, make edits, but then when he closes the file (using Excel) he isn't able to save his changes.   Excel only provides a save-as option for him.   This isn't a permission problem with his ID.   When I login to our Sharepoint 3.0 system as him, with his password (from my machine), I get the usual Read-Only / Edit prompt and when I open a file in EDIT mode I am able to save my changes with no problem.   Any thoughts on this?   Chris

Accessing a row's dropdownlist values AFTER the gridview control is in Edit mode

Hello, I have a gridview control. When it goes into Edit mode, there are 3 dropdownlists in one cell that are populated by separate stored procedures during the RowDataBound event. The 1st dropdownlist's value is used as a parameter to determine what the 2nd dropdownlist is populated with. The 2nd dropdownlist's value is used as a parameter to determine what the 3rd dropdownlist is populated with. Everything works fine when the row is first put into Edit mode. While I'm in Edit mode and I change the selection in the 1st dropdownlist, how do I access the control so I can feed this new parameter to the 2nd dropdownlist? I have the first 2 dropdownlists set for AutoPostBack so that the Page_Load event is fired when the user changes a value. I know how to get access to these controls via the FindControl method when the row is being databound but how do I find the control during the Page_Load event? Thanks for any help!!!   Penny

simple form for single record edit

I've been asked to create a web form to edit a couple of fields in one record in an Access database. The database is on the same server as the website. This is part of a simple CMS that someone developed a long time ago in traditional ASP with VB. I don't know VB well and am trying to get something working by adapting the existing code used in the CMS. I can get the form to display the current values in the record (there are only two fields that need to be edited), but I can't get the form to successfully update the record when the user clicks the submit button. I'm sure the solution  is simple but I've googled up down and sideways and can't seem to get this to work. If anybody with a little patience has a minute to look at this and offer a solution, I'd be grateful. Here's a link to the page in questsion: http://www.penobscotbayinn.com/admin/AdminFrameDefault.asp (click on "edit rates page text") on the  menu. If you submit the form you get a HTTP500 error. Thanks for your time. This seems like it must be a dirt simple procedure, but I'm not very conversant in VB.Here's the code: 1. <%@ Language=VBScript %> 2. <% option Explicit %> 3. <% 'Response.Buffer = true %> 4. <!--#include file="../adovbs.inc"--> 5. <!--#include fi

Unable to Show Edit item Links in Data Form Web Part

I have a DFWP connected to custom list and the boxes to Show Edit Item Links, Show Delete item links and Show Insert Item links are grayed out so that they can not be checked. This works fine when I use a DFWP connected to a standard list (i.e., Contacts). Is there something special that needs to be done to activate this functionality?ThanksDean

Need more font size options in browser edit mode

Is there a way to have a different font size other than the drop down menu of Editing Tools > Format Text of: 8, 10, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72 pt ?   As a designer, I feel handcuffed with just these options.

Gridview edit mode - What event does enter key call?

I have sort of a very specific problem.  I have a gridview with a few different template columns and a commandfield with the standard "edit" link.  There is no sqldatasource associated with it at all.  In the code, I pull some data from an sql database into a datatable and set the gridview's datasource to be the datatable. This all works fine.  When I hit the "edit" button, the standard textbox shows up where it needs to so that I can edit the data.  The problem is the updating portion.  I have programatically removed the "update" button and left the "cancel" button for design reasons. I want the user to be able to hit "enter" in order to update the data in the data table.  Then, when they're ready, they can click a submit button which will extract the data from the datatable and update the database.I'm having trouble with this 'enter key' business.  When you edit the data and hit "enter" while in edit mode, the page posts back, and the previous values are placed in the gridview.  What event was just  called?  I need a way to take what the user put in and place it in my datatable.  What are my options?Thank you.

Permissions to edit a Infopath form

Hi, I have a requirement where a group of users should be able to edit the Infopath form and submit that into the FormsLibrary. But at the same time they should not be able to edit the properties of the Item. If i remove contribute permissions they are not able to Edit the Properties but at the same time they are not able to edit the infopath form. Please let me know the approach how to go about. Your suggestions are much valuable now     Sreeharsha Alagani
