TCP Chimney Offload Issues - SQL Server 2008 R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I've followed the instructions in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2010/02/21/tcp-offloading-again.aspx to disable TCP Chimney Offload.  Disabled the Chimney Offload via netsh and on the NIC disabled Large Send Offload v2 (IPv4), Large Send Offload v2(IPv6), Receive Side Scaling, TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4), , TCP Checksum Offload (IPv6).  I'm still seeing connection issues and do see them in when querying sys.dm_os_ring_buffers and looking at RING_BUFFER_CONNECTIVITY.  Is there a doc somewhere that explains the values returned by this (i.e. SniProvider, State, TdsInputBufferError, etc) ?  Also if anyone has resolved these same issues with SQL Server 2008 R2 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Thanks in advance,

Troubleshooting IIS 7 network performance issues and TCP Chimney Offload, Receive Side Scaling, and

There is a lot of posts on http://forums.iis.net related to network performance.  Actually, there was two today!.  The problems can be different, but the common thread seems to be network performance.  Windows Server 2008 (and R2) enabled a new network feature by default which has been referred to as "Scalable Networking Pak".  Some people refer to the feature as TCP Chimney Offload.  Either way, in my experience this feature causes more issues than it solves.  If you are having a network related issue or performance, this is a easy setting to check and verify if disabling portions or all of them can resolve the issue.   KB article on TCP Chimney Offloadhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/dd277645.aspx KB Article how to show your settings and disablehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037 I strongly encourage test these changes in a non-production environment before making changes to your production systems! Issues in GetItemDataSources web service call in 2008 Report Server R2

Hi, I'm using Reporting Services web services endpoint ReportService2005.asmx with 2008 report server R2 and I'm facing some issues in getting the data source names for a report definition using the GetItemDataSources web service. The problem is that the data source names returned are different from the names of the actual data sources on the report server. The report has the following data sources: 0 1 _0 _A Data Source And the names returned by the GetItemDataSources for 2008 report server R2 is: AutoGen_0 AutoGen_1 AutoGen__0 AutoGen__A Data_Source When I make the same calls using a 2005 report server, the names returned are the same as that in the report definition. To summarize, only numeric data source names are changed to "Autogen_<number>"(eg. Autogen_0), data source names beginning with "_" are changed to "Autogen_<data source name>"(eg. AutoGen__A)  and spaces are replaced by an "_".   What is the problem for the data source names returned for 2008 report server R2? Or has there been any change in the way in which report server stores the data source names? Thanks, Kulbhushan Singhal.

MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups install to Win 7 - Compatibility issues

I attempted to install MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups from the DVD to a Win 7 workstation.  Error "This Program has known compatibility issues.  The directions are to download the MSSQL Server Service Pack.  I downloaded SP 1 and SP 2.  Neither SP will install.  The DVD install also has a run option displayed along with the Compatibility message.  I select "Run" and it appeared to install, with Start\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2008\Configuration Tools\ SQL Server Installation Center 64bit.  However, running the 64bit installation process results in no change.  My question is how to install the MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups on the Win 7 machine.  I would appreciate your thoughts.

Server 2008 R2 64 bit, SSRS 2008 64 bit with Report Builder 3.0 issues with Oracle OLE Driver

Folks, ran out of idea on this issues. Setup as shown at the Title. I can connect via VS 2010  but report builder cannot run properly when setup with connection string. I use a 32 bit Oracle Driver and VS 2010 works well with it, however, Report Builder on SSRS report a bad image issues while attempting to use the same driver. What have been tried: 1-Already attempted to try to download Oracle ODP drivers 64 bit, but current driver 11g and minor version above 11g does not install, installation failed. So far all chats indicated that Server 2008 R2 does not have a Oracle 64 bit driver provided y Oracle. Any help is appreciated ....

CLR stored procedures asssemblies working in sql server 2005 but giving issues over sql server 2008

Hi I developed CLR stored procedures assemblies using VS2005 and deployed in sql server 2005 are working fine. Currently we are migrating to sql server 2008. The same CLR assemblies are not working in 2008 version and raising following error. Here i created CLR assemblies in sql server 2008 using 'sa' user account which is having db_owner permission over 'mydatabase'. I am getting an error message like "A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate". In sql logs showing messages like as -- Common language runtime (CLR) functionality initialized using CLR version v2.0.50727 from C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\. -- AppDomain 2 (mydatabase.dbo[runtime].1) created.   Please let me know what may be the cause for this type of issues. Is there any specific backward compatibility settings has to be done over sql server 2008 or sql server 2008 R2 while using 2005 CLR routines?   Thanks in advance.

MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups install to Win 7 - Compatibility issues

The DVD install for MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups to Win 7 fails due to known compatibility issues.  I asked for help in the Getting Started with SQL Server Forum and followed a recommendation to slipstream installation with SP1. I followed the procedures at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joaol/archive/2009/03/20/how-to-install-sql-server-2008-with-sp1-built-in-slipstream-installation.aspx I then ran Setup.exe from the C:\SQLServer2008 folder.  It failed with the following .Net Framework error.  (I previously installed .Net Framework Version 4 which is required by the application needing SQL Server.)  Thanks for help. Microsoft.NET Framework Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services - Syncronization Speed Issues

We are experiencing a severe performance issue when syncronizing cubes using R2. We have 2 sets of machines that we are experiencing varied performance and speed when syncronizing cubes.

Test Server Pair 1
Dell R710, 72GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R900, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 3 Drives in Raid 5 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU9 Enterprise (64bit). The performance of the cube syncronization is slow but manageable.

Test Server Pair 2
Dell R710, 96GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R910, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 14 Drives in Raid 10 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 R2 CU2 Enterprise (64bit). This pair of servers running SQL 2008 R2 syncronize very slowly.  The process about 70-80 percent slower than the first pair. Our cubes that we syncronize are very large in size (some are 500-800GB in size) and for that reason con

SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Memory Usage issues and not giving memory back

Okay so i have a physical server i am trying to replace with a virtual server. Its doing a large load process every night, about 190GB on one disk.

The VM is:

On vSphere 4.1 ESXi

O/S is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise

SQL version is SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

4 vCpus

Now 20GB of memory

Disks assigned to this virtual are all seperate LUNs except for the O/S which is on a shared LUN which is not busy. So 1 LUN/Datastore per 'disk drive on this SQL virtual. Data/Log/TempDB/Backup are on their own LUNs.

All the recommended exclusions are in place for McAfee on a SQL Server.

ESXi 4.1 Enterprise host is not overcommitted. Has 4 x 6core 2.6Ghz AMD processors. BL685c G6 and 128GB of memory. Almost nothing else is running at the time i am testing this load and host is not overcommited or stressed or anywhere near it.

SQLServer process shows 127,236K Working Set and 130,040K Peak working set and memory Private working set 88,828k and Commit Size of 302,792k.

It seems when i check the memory usage in task manager it doesn't show much. In Windows 2003 X64 in would show the GB being used, like 8GB right in task manager. But i don't see that in Windows 2008 R2 task manager. I downloaded SysInternals and it shows the memory on the Windows 2008 r2 box as 15Gb of AWE memory. How can this be? The case is th

Issues with CLR Stored Procedures - SQL Server 2008

Dear members,

I really hope that someone will be able to help me.

I'm trying to create an assembly in sql 2008, for a dll i've created in c# (net 3.5 frameword).

The dll is calling a WS method, that will do some calculations.

The issues i'm having is, once I try to create the assembly, it tells me "

Msg 10301, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Assembly 'XYZ' references assembly 'system.runtime.serialization, version=, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b77a5c561934e089.', which is not present in the current database. SQL Server attempted to locate and automatically load the referenced assembly from the same location where referring assembly came from, but that operation has failed (reason: 2(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)). Please load the referenced assembly into the current database and retry your request.

" , which I do understand, and following this message, I am trying to create assembly, for the System.Runtim.Serialization dll.

But, if i try to create the dll, it tells me the following:

Warning: The Microsoft .NET Framework assembly 'system.runtime.serialization, version=, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b77a5c561934e089, process

New Windows 7 compuer with SQL Server 2008 Express - permission issues

I avoided Vista because of the overbearing security issues but I put Windows 7 Ultimate on my new computer. I really like it so far except for 2 big issues. I won’t go into VPN nightmare I’m having here but the other is that for the first time ever I’m having lots of SQL Server permission issues. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, I run SSMS as an administrator how can I get full rights on my SQL Server as I had in XP where I could create files anywhere?

The first issue I had was that I couldn’t install the AdventureWorkLT DB because I didn’t have create permissions (that is bizarre default) but I got around that by granting Full Control to the Data folder.

Now I’m having another problem that I cannot solve. I cannot even export a SQL Query to a file. I get an “unrecoverable error” popup. Here is what is in event viewer but if click the link in event viewer the suggestions of how to fix it does not work.

Compatibility issues between Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Dear sirs,

When I was installing SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, I received a notice informing the software Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 has known compatibility issues with this version of Windows.

So how can I get around these problems?

I need to use Visual Studio 2005 to create the Integration Services packages.

Also, I need to migrate directories of Integration Services packages from a server with SQL Server 2005 32 bit on Windows Server 2003 32 bit for a server with SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2. How can I proceed to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Seven reasons to care about SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft begins to fully realize its vision of SQL Server as an information platform and not "just" a database. Hence the main theme for this release -- at least according to Microsoft -- is self-service BI. The PowerPivot plug-ins for Excel 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are easily going to make the biggest splash of all the new features, not least because they're the most complete. But then, SQL Server 2008 R2 isn't strictly necessary for PowerPivot for Excel, which works with plenty of other data sources.

sql server 2008 adventureworks database

dear Friends

For my MCTS 70 -433 examination, I recently installed sql server 2008 and installed the sample databases too. but my issue is, in that book they have mentioned a database called "AdventureWorks2008" and the nice thing is I don't have a such a database with me in my sql server 2008.

And the query is

-- MERGE Statement
USE AdventureWorks2008
MERGE INTO	Sales.SalesOrderDetailHistory AS SODH
USING Sales.SalesOrderDetail AS SOD
ON SODH.SalesOrderID = SOD.SalesOrderID
AND SODH.SalesOrderDetailID = SOD.SalesOrderDetailID
INSERT (LineTotal, SalesOrderID, SalesOrderDetailID, CarrierTrackingNumber, OrderQty
, ProductID, SpecialOfferID, UnitPrice, UnitPriceDiscount
, rowguid, ModifiedDate, Cancelled)
VALUES(LineTotal, SalesOrderID, SalesOrderDetailID, CarrierTrackingNumber, OrderQty
, ProductID, SpecialOfferID, UnitPrice, UnitPriceDiscount
, rowguid, ModifiedDate, DEFAULT)
UPDATE SET SOHD.Cancelled = 'True'
OUTPUT $action , inserted.* ;

Please help me to overcome this issue and let me know where can I download that database too.

Thanking you

happy Coding
