Limitations of MeasureExpression

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a many to many dimensional problem that I am trying to solve.

Am I right in thinking that MeasureExpression is limited to a simple expression such as [value]*[percantage] and cannot cope with [value]*[percentage1]*[percentage2]?

What I am trying to achieve is similar to the example under the heading Measure Expressions and Many-to-Many Dimensions in the article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms345139.aspx. In this example there is a many to many relationship between Organisation and Store Sales; and the weighted [Amount] is calculated in the MeasureExpression as [Amount]*[Ownership].

They key difference in my scenario is that instead of a single many to many relationship between Organisation and Store Sales I have several relationships so I would need to have a calculation such as [Amount]*[Ownership]*[Sales Director Percentage].

Is there a way that MeasureExpression could support more complex calculations - or is there a better way to achieve this?

Dynamic Data Use And Limitations

I have been looking at dynamic data based applications for a little while now and it looks like this technology could be deployed in many scenarios. In my case I am interested in using it to deliver relatively small database applications to small to medium sized companies, often replacing data in homespun spreadsheets with a well ordered database. The attraction to me being that dynamic data allows the application to be created (and subsequently altered) much more efficiently than with lots of hand coded web forms.

What experience have others had using this technology on live sites, have you come across any road blocks or gotchas in terms of performance, security or general functionality? Is it being used in a diverse range of scenarios?

With CTE Limitations

Hi,  Is there any limitations on how many With CTEs you can use in a Stored Procedure? I have a SP which has 3 temp tables. I am trying to use With CTE instead of temp tables. The reason is to index them and have better performance.  Thanks in advance. Best Wishes, Arbi --- Please vote if you find this posting was helpful or Mark it as answered.

using table valued parameters for stored procedures any limitations

I am thinking of using a table valued parameter for my new stored procedure, but wonder if there are any performance implications to be aware of and is the limitation of using statistics applicable with table value parameters, i.e do they keep statistics and will this affect the judgement of query plans i.e estimated number of rows, from my experience table variables do suffer from this problem but I would like to confirm if it applies to table value parameters as well.

Solution for Writeback Limitations

Writeback is an excellent feature in Excel 2010 but it lacks the ability to get back to the original value once its been changed.  Writeback is ideal for forecasting but if someone overwrites/writebacks the forecast on an "actual" cell, the values for the actual number is lost and cannot be retieved short of deleting the writeback data.  As recommend to me by an Microsoft SSAS member at TechEd, I split the data up into a dimension called Scenario containing the "Actual" and "Forecast" memebers.  With this, one can see the actual number and forecasted number side by side and can forecast using the forecast member.  The problem now is that one cannot aggregate on these 2 cells.  The thought would be to create a calcuated member that check does essentially, ISNULL("Actual", "Forecast").  This new "Verified" member works, but now the issue becomes rolling up the data.  Since this member's condition is not scoped, the "Verified" value rolls from the lowest level to the top.  Is it possible create the member to be conditionalized so that it only uses the ISNULL condition at the lowest level, but then rolls up properly?

Let me try to illustrate the issue...

Scenario = "Actual"

SharePoint 2010 workflow limitations?

My company is looking to use SharePoint 2010's workflow capability to set up about 100 different business processes, each of which will require a separate custom workflow. I'd like to know:

1) what, if any, limitations there are that we need to look out for with workflow

2) are there any good plug and play software packages out there that sit on top of SP 2010 and extend workflow capability

3) if anyone can suggest a specific vendor we can look to that has such a product

Example of a limitation - in SP 2007 (although we will be using 2010), workflow due date - you are only able to enter the number of days or weeks for task completion, not hours and minutes.

Upgrading - SP2010 batch query limitations?

According to technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787.aspx) the below applies when executing queries to lists even though the list item hard limitations are set in the millions...

My question is, are there any other changes in regards to the limitations when processing batch queries on lists in Sharepoint 2010? What was the below limit in 2007?

It is essential for me to be able to inform my partners if anything did change, so that they can prepare there applications for any extended limitations, when we are upgrading.

List view threshold

Specifies the maximum number of list or library items that a database operation, such as a query, can process at the same time outside the daily time window set by the administrator during which queries are unrestricted.

Thank you in advance/Jesper Wilfing

Are there any limitations in SharePoint 2010 BCS when working with large data?

We are working on suggesting the best approach that would be suitable to support user data stored in SQL Server 2008. User data is huge (in Terabytes). I need to understand if there are any issues using MOSS 2007 BDC or SharePoint 2010 BCS to interact with SQL Server 2008 database tables? I understand that BCS offers a no-code solution for interacting with SQL tables, however when handling such large data, can we have better performance if Stored Procedures and ADO.Net is used to fetch and update the data?

All in all I need to understand the pros and cons in both these approaches. Any pointers, specifically to related real world case studies shall highly be appreciated. Thanks much!

" WHEN [Amazon Notes] LIKE 'If Female%' THEN 'Female' " +

"([Amazon Notes] IS NULL OR " +
