Creating Local cube on Cube using Many-to-Many dimension relationship

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi All,

I have got a cube that uses many-to-many dimensions relationship. I also have a calculated measure (A*B) in the measure group using a unary operator.

I tried creating the local cube by using CREATE GLOBAL CUBE statement and included the intermediate measure group and one measure from the group. I have also included all the dimensions that are linked to the intermediate measure group.

The local cube is being created but I don't see the correct values of the measures. I just get the value of A coming for the value of the calculated measures. There are also some performance issues while browsing the local cube which I assumed should be very fast.

I am not sure if this is a known issue and there's a solution available for this but I tried and didn't find anything on the forum.

Please help me with this. Thanks in Advance.

Cannot see the Dimension description while using Local Cube with Excel

Hi everyone, I'm new to the world of Analysis Services, so I might make a stupid question.
I searched over the web, but I haven't found an answer.

I'm using:
- Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Server 9.00.4035.00
- Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Sp3 (i have the Excel Add-in for SQL Analysis Services version 1.5.0166.0)

I created a cube in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with a fact table and only one dimension.
In the 'KeyColumns' DimensionAttribute properties i have the Dimension key and in 'NameColumn' the description.

When I browse the cube with Excel (olap driver 9.0) I can see the description of the Dimension without problem.

The problem starts when I create the local cube with the excel procedure (create offline cube) and I connect to It using Excel; in this case, the description ('NameColumn') disappears and i can see only the Dimension code ('KeyColumns').
When I connect again to the server Cube, leaving the local cube connection, i can see again the description.
It seems that the Local cube does not contain the description of the Dimension, but only the key.

I did the same thing using Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Server 2000, and when I connect to the local cube created with Excel I have no problem viewing the description of the Dimension.

Where am I doing wrong? Am i fo

Key Dimension attribute not visible in cube browser

When browsing the cube either through managemnet studio the key dimension attribute is not visible . However when I browse just the dimension, I'm able to see this attribute. Is this the default behaviour ?. Is there any property I need to set to make it visble ?. The AttributeHierarchyVisible property is already set to true.

dimension's incremental process generates processing on all partitions in cube

Hey eb

Have any one noticed this behavior??

Incremental process (process update) of dimension generates reprocessing of indexes on all cube's partitions, even when no change has occured in that dimension.

I am using SSAS 2005 sp2.

This is disturbing because my cube holds some 700 daily partitions so processing indexes on all of them - on an hourly basis - is very time consuming.

Also it flashes that cube's cache!

I did noticed that changing heirarchies memberskeysunique property to True + changing the toppest attribute in this heirarchy mambernamesunique to true solves this problem.

Is this a must then to prevent recalculating indexes on partitions every process update of dimension??

Thanks!!

SSAS 2008 - Dimension colmun/attribute not visible in cube browser?

Hi, I have one dimension and one fact table in SQL 2008 server...

i.e. DimEmployee (Columns : EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, DateOfBirth, Addrss, PostCode, MobileNumber, Gender)
FactEmployeePay ( Columns : EmployeeID, Amount)

When I create SSAS 2008 cube on those two tables (Relationship is EmployeID colmun) , deploy/process project/cube and then I go to "Cube Browser", but in dimension Employee table I can not see any columns other than EmployeeID. Why in this simple cube I can not view other dimension columns like FirstName, LastName,....

Any idea for SSAS 2008?

Question on Creating Aggregations based on Time data in a Cube

Hi

I have a fact table that lists projects and the site visit dates that related to those projects.   For each site visit date there are a number of associated KPIs.

However to make life a little bit more complicated these KPIs are prorated by year so for each site visit there may be several rows in the fact table that relate to each year ie 2005,  2006 etc...

The issue I am having is that I have been given a requirement to view each KPI at the site visit level.   My first idea was to create an aggregate table for each site visit with totals for each year ie  2005 sales total,  2006 sales total etc...    The issue is that totals can be for any year between 2005 and 2014 and clearly creating all these hard coded totals means there will be a huge number of KPIs required with in-built time logic at the site visit level ie for each KPI I would need a separate measure for each possible year.

Any other alternatives?   The underlying fact table will of course show the end user a list of site visits and the KPIs relating to each year,  but the end user wants to be able to view the data in a repivoted format so that site visit returns 1 row with the prorated date columns appearing vertically across.   For the time being I cannot see that this is possible without having a huge agg

Process a SSAS cube's dimension by a T-SQL query

HI,

I need to process a SSAS 2008 cube's dimension by a T-SQL query, using a SQL agent job.

How can this be done.

Create a Cube dimension - Reusability of code

Hi, Hope all are had a good week end.

I do have a question in mind. In this scenario, the aim is to create a new dimension in a cube with some hierarchies to be defined in it (includes update DSV too). Let us consider this cube as Cube A. We have another cube 'Cube B' , which has the similar dimension in it, the important thing is that they both are in different database.

During the cube development in BIDS 2008, is there any way to reuse the code of already available cube (Cube B) dimesion (XML code)? If yes, please share the best practices to do the same.

Thanks, Jey

Cube Writeback with weighted allocation working strangely - creating large negative values against f

Hi

I've got a cube (2008) with 2 MGs: Actuals and Budgets.

The Budgets partition is Write-Enabled.

On Excel 2010 the user will select the Actual Date for 2010-07, and will set the Budget date to 2011.

After seeing what the YTD actual figure looks like he enters the budget for 2011.

It is supposed to take that budget figure and split it between the funds that have actuals against them (using weighting).

Here's the problem:

SSAS allocates inflated figures against those funds, and then, so that the sum of those values will equal the originally entered amount, it puts a large negative value against the first Member in the fund dimension (I experimented with this by deleting the first member in that dimension. It just allocates the negative value against the new member!).

Why isn't it just allocating the values based on the ratio that it gets from that Actuals calc?

The UPDATE statement on the trace looked like this:

UPDATE CUBE [Forecasting]
SET  (
        [Actuals Date].[Year-Quarter-Month-Day Hierarchy].[Calendar Year Month].&[2010-07]
        , [Budget Date].[Year-Quarter-Month-Day Hierarchy].[Calendar Year].&[2011]

scheduled task Process a single cube dimension?

Hello experts,

Is it possible to process a single cube dimension on SSAS via SQL Server scheduled tasks? Any help is preciated.

Thanks

Clustering on cube slices

Hi, I would like to use the clustering algorithm "seperately" on each cube slice.  The problem description: Having many employes and their arrival-to-work time I created a cube with a fact table and 3 dimensions: Employee, Time, Office and I would like to run the clustering algorithm seperately for each employee to receive his arrival-to-work clusters and to find his exceptions e.g., for the employee John who has the following arrival time records: 08:05, 07:55, 8:10, 8:07, 10:30, 10:31, 10:28, 15:00 I want to receive two clusters, the first one will include  08:05, 07:55, 8:10, 8:07 The second one will include 10:30, 10:31, 10:28 (and the exception will be 15:00) Having many employees I would like to create one data mining model and to use the cube slice and dice options    Searching the web and the MSDN I didn't find whether and how it can be done - I will very appreciate your help   Thanks in advance, Lora
