Simple Silverlight WF Designer

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

We would like to use WF within a Silverlight case management application currently being developed. The WF features required would be a small subset of what the VS designer provides. We would also like an administrator to be able to create WFs from within the Silverlight app. Is there anything currently available that would help or could someone point me to online resources that might be helpful? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Simple Silverlight WF Designer

We have an existing asp.net application that is going to be rewritten in Silverlight. The old asp.net application has a custom workflow engine that tracks case tasks and when forms need to be completed by workers. It is fairly intensive code and complex admin UI that I'm hoping we can do away with by using WF in the new Silverlight version. The catch is we will be giving customers the ability to create and modify workflows as their business processes change. They will not need all of the features of WF so we are thinking about building our own simplified drag and drop designer with a few custom activities in Silverlight. The problem is we are new to WF and are not sure how big of a job this will be. Should we stick with our own custom workflow engine or invest the time in moving to WF? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Silverlight Simple Animation

Silverlight has several built in techniques for animating controls. Many of these technologies are particularly useful for creating simple animations meant to decorate a web page with eye catching movement that draws the reader's attention. In this post I will skip over these decorative technologies, and instead show how to create a simple animation using a technique similar to those used in many games.

Wicked Code: Silverlight Page Turning Made Simple

As we'll show, with just a few lines of JavaScript you can build a general-purpose framework for incorporating page turns into Silverlight 1.0 apps.

Showing Designer error for Silverlight App when trying to access resource which contains code e.Resu

Environment is: Silverlight 4, VS Studio 2010. Designer is showing error in a Silverlight App when trying to access a resource as below. And there are no build or runtime errors. Extensive research found that, in the "InvestorsProvider" class I am using wcf services, which has a callback method. In the call back method I am using this statement "this.MyProperty = e.Result" where e.Result is ObservableCollection. If I remove the e.Result it is not showing any designer problem. <UserControl.Resources> <local:InvestorsProvider x:Name="investorsProvider"></local:InvestorsProvider> </UserControl.Resources> Here is the error System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException [Async_ExceptionOccurred]Arguments: Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Improving the Start-up Performance of the WPF and Silverlight Designer in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

IMPORTANT NOTE: the Beta and Release Candidate builds of Visual Studio 2010 are now obsolete, since Visual Studio 2010 has now released to manufacturing.

See http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/download

NOTE: The Release Candidate and RTM builds of Visual Studio 2010 does not need this configuration change

This post is to let you know about a configuration change (registry switch) which you can use to improve the startup performance of the WPF and Silverlight Designer in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.

1. Since this was a late-breaking change, you may experience some instability or increased Virtual Memory usage in some Visual Studio scenarios when using it. If you see such instabilities, please try removing the configuration change, and let us know about the problem you saw (you can do this by replying to this posting or by raising a bug on Connect).

2. You should only make this configuration change if you are a regular user of the WPF and Silverlight Designer, and are experiencing poor performance with it.

3. This configu

vs2010 silverlight designer error

Hi all,

After installing Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight Tools for VS 2010, I tried to generate a new Silverlight project and got an error in the xaml designer.

None of the .xaml files generated by VS can be opened in design mode.

I have the KB30319.348 installed. The error is reproduced below:

Silverlight Designer Failure

With a very basic Silverlight page, I randomly get the following message when the Designer is trying to load ANY of my pages, all of which have no significant or unusual code.  Once I get this message the Designer will simply not load any of my pages.  I have tried debugging via a second VS2010 instance, but it does not trap this exception.  My application builds and executes without any problems.  Any and all suggestions much appreciated!

Silverlight and WCF 'simple question' (right), involving https vs transport security

Two questions:  I’m familiar with WCF and using it with Silverlight, https:, and I have a remote web server that I have a SSL / TLS certificate on.

I want to encrypt login and/or data to and from the web server.  Already I can do this on localhost, using this video:  http://www.silverlight.net/learn/videos/silverlight-videos/using-aspnet-secure-services-and-applications-services/

(“In this video, Tim Heuer demonstrates two important features of Silverlight and ASP.NET, using secure web services and using ASP.NET application services from within Silverlight. This demonstration walks through securing services and interacting with the ASP.NET authentication services to restrict use as well as directly interact with ASP.NET application services from within a Silverlight application.”)

Also I have reviewed this video on localhost:

Serving Silverlight Apps from Windows Mobile

Even if mobile dev is not my every day work, thanks to the .Net Compact Framework, it's still .Net programming.

Here is the scenario:

You come back home, you have a windows mobile phone wifi capable and you want to quickly get access to your phone pictures from your home network.
You just activate the Wifi, run my app and then browse to the provided link from any computer on the network.

A Simple and Extensible Radio Button Style GridView

The GridView is one of the significant controls in ASP.NET 2.0 and later versions. No doubt it reduces a lot of work time. However, customizing the GridView control is not an easy task. For example, it's hard to add a radio button column to the GridView. This article demonstrates the reason why a radio button column cannot act as normal and how to create a simple and extensible radio button GridView.

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.

This series will walk through the Building Blocks that I have created to demonstrate and improve the SharePoint end user experience.
