The control value can not be set on GUI in .Net Framework 4.0, but it can work in .Net Framework 3.5

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Now I encounter one strange problem on WPF. In the previous version, I work on VSTS2008 with .Net Framework 3.5; And in current version, I upgrade the software to VSTS2010 with .Net Framework 4.0. But the problem occurs. The control value can not be set on GUI now but the legacy version works fine.

After debug, I found that the control value in logic layer is what I want. But the value can not be populate to GUI.

The xaml script is like this:

Content="{Binding Path=TopButton1IndexUIValue}"

The codes are listed like this:

public static DependencyProperty TopButton1IndexUIValueProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(
       "TopButton1IndexUIValue", typeof(string), typeof(GraphicView));

public string TopButton1IndexUIValue
      get { return (string)GetValue(TopButton1IndexUIValueProperty); }
      set { SetValue(TopButton1IndexUIValueProperty, value); }

Does anyone know what the root cause of this issue ? In other words, is there extra more work needed while upgrading from 3.5 to 4.0 ?

Thanks a lot !!

Server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) does not work!

Has anyone had issues getting server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) to work? The data type is a string (nvarchar). Server-side validation for required fields of other data types WORK fine. Only string fields have issues. I get the following error on UpdateModel(obj); of my POST method within the controller. Exception Details: System.Data.ConstraintException: This property cannot be set to a  null value.Source Error: Line 4500:                OnTextChanging(value);Line 4501:                ReportPropertyChanging("Text");Line 4502:                _Text = StructuralObject.SetValidValue(value, false);Line 4503:                ReportPropertyChanged("Text");Line 4504:                OnTextChanged(); I've even tried data annotations like this but it seems to get ignored.     [MetadataType(typeof(ObjMD))]     public partial class Obj     {

I can't believe I can't find an answer to this... I've created Entity Framework models generated from DB (SQL Server CE) I dragged an Entity from Data Sources to my MainWindow, automagically creating this XAML: <Window.Resources>     <CollectionViewSource x:Key="contentItemsViewSource" d:DesignSource="{d:DesignInstance my:ContentItem, CreateList=True}" /> </Window.Resources> <Grid DataContext="{StaticResource contentItemsViewSource}">     <DataGrid AutoGenerateColumns="False" EnableRowVirtualization="True" Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" ItemsSource="{Binding}" Margin="0,22" Name="contentItemsDataGrid" RowDetailsVisibilityMode="VisibleWhenSelected" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Width="Auto" DataContext="{Binding}" IsReadOnly="True" CanUserResizeRows="False">         <DataGrid.Columns>             <DataGridTextColumn x:Name="idColumn" Binding="{Binding Path=Id}" Header="Id" Width="SizeToHeader" Visibility="Hidden" />             <DataGridTex

Ajax Control Toolkit for Framework 2.0 in Visual Studio 2010

I am new to ASP.NET and am using VS 2010 on a standalone machine to develop a web application in framework 2.0. The 3.5 Ajax Control Toolkit I have in my Toolbox tab is greyed out for my 2.0 app, but not for a test 3.5 app, so I am assuming I need to download Tookit just for 2.0 and for VS 2010. I am not sure where to find the right Toolkit. Everything I have found is for 3.5 or 4.0 and/or not for VS 2010. Thanks!

WPF, MVVM , Entity Framework: Is there an example to show how Entity Frameowk work with MVVM pattern

Is there an example to show how Entity Frameowk work with MVVM pattern or WPF?
Does it suppose to be the Model layer implement LINQ to Entities?

How does WCF work with other parts of the .NET framework?

This may be a silly question, but I'm very new to both WCF and the .Net framework, so bear with me. I've been reading about WCF's capabilities, looked at some demos, but I haven't found a clear answer yet. Say for instance I had an application in C# with a WPF GUI (I dont, yet, so no code samples and such) , and I wanted that application to have P2P connectivity (from what I've read, WCF is the way to go here). How would I integrate WCF into this application? Is the WCF part a separate type of application whose functions I can call or is it a real part of the main program?

I would appreciate it if someone could give me a concise explanation of how this works exactly.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Entity Framework 4 Tips for WinForms Development

I've been recently working on a smart client (WinForms) application backed by Entitiy Framework 4 (EF4) on Visual Studio 2010. In this blog post I will try to give you some tips regarding some limitations and points to be careful about EF4.

Bar Code Scanners with the .NET Compact Framework

Summary: Learn how to make your applications use bar code scanners in a generic way-ndependent of the specific bar code scanners that are used on different devices. Using the design patterns Façade and Factory, the implementation not only supports multiple bar code scanners, but it also makes it easy to add support for other bar code scanners. After a brief discussion about bar code scanners and the bar code scanner pattern, a download code sample, written in C#, demonstrates the use of the pattern and technologies.

Serial Communication with the .NET Compact Framework
