Universal Data Connections

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm looking for some guidance on universal data connections

  1. I have created data connections, converted them to site collection relative and then uploaded those to Central Admininstration - which seems like an extra step but I digress
  2. Whenever I try to create a new form template and add one of the dataconnections from Central Admin it says it can't find any data connections. (I've read this is by design)

Do I need to add one from the site collection DCL I needed to complete step one and then convert it to a centrally managed one where it will pick it up when the form is deployed??

I guess my question is am I stuck having 2 dataconnection libraries holding the same data connections?

 Thanks for any advice

wss2.0 Infopath 2007 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least on

Hi all

I have a user who receives the error 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least one of these connections is not available. As specified by the form designer, this form will not open' when trying to Submit an infopath form located on a WSS2.0 site.

The user has been having this issue since upgrading to Office 2007 and IE7. I have had the user run an Office Diagnostics but this has not resolved the issue.

I am not aware of any other users experiencing this issue.

Any ideas please?

Infopath Data Connections and Submit

We are in the process of shifting our draft system from SP 2007 to SP 2010 and we are re-visiting our Infopath forms service. Admin approved IP forms,  the templates emailed to our 12 remote 'offices' 12 Site collections -identical structure for remote locations 12 Remote user locations, never connected! ,fills in the form, selects own site, and emails back to office Custom button on form with rules reads 'selected site' and uses appropiate data connection to submit to correct Site Collection/Form Library. We are only using 1 site at the moment but obviously with 12 sites it becomes unmanagable, my thoughts;- Can we use a web service to act as an intermediary to point to correct library? Would a dataconnection library help?, or is the amount of work the same? ??? casey

InfoPath 2010, Multiple Repeating Sections have same name, Diff data connections using same SQL Serv

I've created an InfoPath 2010 form that has three Repeating sections and each one uses a different data connection but all three connections use the same table in SQL Server... "Accounts".  Now you might ask why I would do this? Well I need different sets of data in each section and it all resides in the same table in the repository. Also, sometimes one section will not have information and I do not want a bunch of blank fields displaying in the repeating section. So I split the data into separate sections. Now here is the challenge for you guru's out there. :) I want to use one column in the 3rd repeating section  to refer back to another column in the first repeating section.(for referential integrity) Unfortunately since they both use the same table in the database they possess the same name under advanced view:  myFields/dataFields "d_:Accounts". In fact all three of my repeating sections have the same name based upon the database table used in the data connection. In the SQL statement I attempted to rename each of the connections via the statement. I have not tried to give the table an alias in the statement yet. Will try that one next. 1. Is there a simple way to rename the repeating Section from "d_:Accounts" to something else so that  they are each unique? (Without using backend code as I've only used InfoPath/SP/S

VS 2010 Workflow -Linq Data Connections

We have several workflows to build that will use a common linq data class.

What is the best way to expose this class to all WF projects?

Tried a solution with 2 projects

  • The data class
  • The workflow with references to the data class

But the workflow always "failed on start"

Soon as I removed the references to the dataaccess project it ran OK

Business Data Item Builder Missing "Connections" menu option.

On the Business Data Item Builder menu there is typically an option that says "Connections" and then you can connect the item builder to a Business Data Item Web Part. Our Business Data Item Web part is set up properly and our ADF file (and query string) is unchanged, but the Connections option has disappeared. Any help or insight into this issue is much appreciated.

SharePoint 2010 Centrally Managed Data Connections

I know it is possible to deploy connection files to a Local/ Relative connection library using WSP

but is it possible to deploy Centrally managed Data Connections using a WSP?

Data Connections Stopped Working In Infopath 2010

I have an Infopath 2007 web enabled form that I converted to Infopath 2010.  I also converted the data connection to 2010.  The server is also SP2010.  Now when the form is accessed via the browser the following error occurs.

"You do not have permissions to access a SharePoint list that contains data required for this form to function correctly."

It works ok in preview mode.  And nothing else has changed.  The production 2007 Infopath version of this form still works.  Security is set to "Domain".  And there is no issue with access to the data connection list.  What am I missing?

Projected Fields not available in InfoPath data connections

Projected fields are a nice way to join lists and show fields from related lists in the same view without physically duplicating fields. Unfortunately, these projected fields are not available in InfoPath data connections. I am now tempted to duplicate data and to maintain physical copies of fields in multiple lists to overcome this limitation, but it makes me uneasy ;-)

I must add, the InfoPath form is a list based form without code behind.

If you guys have a better idea, please let me know. thanks.

fx Controls instead of Drop Down Lists for Lookup fields in InfoPath Secondary Data Connections

I have a secondary data connection with a lookup field into another list. To display the fields text value instead of the index, I am using a drop down list which gets its choices from the linked list. This information is read-only so I disabled the control via formatting rule.

A calculated value control might be better suited, but my XPath skills are not very "developed". Has anyone done this before? Taken the index from the bound field and extracted the text value from a second data connection? Thx

SQL Agent data source connections

I have a set of packages and have created a SQL Agent job for scheduling the execution. I am now in the process of moving the code to production server. I have used package configurations in SSIS, so the package takes the DB connections automatically, based on the dev/test/prod regions. But for the SQL Agent job, I still see the development DB connection string in the 'Data Sources' tab of the SQL Agent. Is there a way to configure the DB connection like in SSIS package?

sharepoint 2010 variable in data connections

how can i retrieve data from a database for the logged in user.  for eg. i wish to display personal data (on MYSite) for the logged in user.  this data is to be retrieved from an oracle database using "user name" from user information list. i have retrieved data from an oracle db using data connections. how can i insert the variable "user name" into the sql statement so that users acces only their info.

Programatically add data connections to the infopath form

I have 5 data connections in infopath form and performing some sharepoint list filtering in the browser based form using "owssvr.dll" in xml format  and set as data source for respective controls on the form. Is there anyway to chaneg the data connections (i.e. xml path) at run time? Because everytime I move from development to test and production, need to change the data source xml path as well filed's data sources on the form. Hope you guys understand my problem. Thanks in advance to all.

How to remove data connections dependancy from infopath forms?

Hi All,

In my Infopath forms there are hard coded data connections.

For example GetUserProfileByName data connection has url http://site_url:port/_vti_bin//UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL. Every time I want to publish the form to different site url, port, I have to modify such data connections. Is there any way to remove this dependacy or make it configurable from some central location.

data connections in data connection libraries as consumed by Report Builder and SSRS

A data connection to a SQL DB is created and published to a data connection library in SharePoint 2010.  When Report builder or SSRS consume this connection, does the actual network connection happen between the SP server and the DB or the client machine and the DB?  And is this different based on whether you use SSRS or Report Builder?

The reason for the question is that the firewall is open between the SP farm and the DB but NOT between the client machine and the DB and I'm trying to figure out if this will be a problem or not.

Additional clarifications that may be helpful.  SSRS (SQL 2008 R2) is in SharePoint integrated mode and we are specifically talking about rsds files.

Binding WPF Controls to an Entity Data Model

Surrogate vs Natural Primary Keys - Data Modeling Mistake 2 of 10

In case you're new to the series I've compiled a list of ten data modeling mistakes that I see over and over that I'm tackling one by one. I'll be speaking about these topics at the upcoming IASA conference in October, so I'm hoping to generate some discussion to at least confirm I have well founded arguments.

The last post in this series Referential Integrity was probably less controversial than this one. After all, who can argue against enforcing referential integrity? But as obvious as surrogate keys may be to some, there is a good deal of diversity of opinion as evidenced by the fact that people continue to not use them.
