Excel Services in the 2010a Image -- Excel Servcice in General ( no success)

On the WebApp that hosts the Project service portion of the demo (finweb) has anyone gotten Excel Services to work ?  I get a bunch of internal errors when I attempt to use this service..  I am also having problems getting Excel Service to work (in general) -- are there any particular small animals that need to be sacrificed in order to get Excel Services to work? I'm using Kerberos on a single box ( been through the Kerberos whitePaper) -- On my development server, I am authenticating OK (Fiddler) but the page that is returned ends abruptly before the grid is created. It's not the browser because I can view the samples at WssDemo...   Suggestions -- I've done a couple of re-installs all the back to IIS -  All science is either physics or stamp collecting

General Controller to View logic question

Hello, I am currently learning the MVC2 Framework and I have a brief question in terms of my logic and if their are any flaws in it. I created a basic example in a couple of minutes that demonstrates the way I think about it. public ViewResult Index() { return View(); } public ViewResult Cookies() { return View(new Cookie()); } public ViewResult CookiesInput(Cookie cookie) { return View(cookie); }<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>I really like cookies</h2> Would you like a cookie? <% using (Html.BeginForm("Cookies", "Example")) { %> <p><input type="submit" value="Yes" /></p> <% } %> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Cookies</h2> <% using (Html.BeginForm("CookiesInput", "Example")) { %> <%= Html.EditorForModel() %> <p><input type="submit" value="Gimme" /></p> <% } %> </asp:Content><asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainConten

General question steps to configure mysites in SharePoint 2010

I am trying to configure the mysite web application, so I have created a DNS record "mysite" and created a web application for the mysite and created a mysite host site collection on it. Now I have read somewhere that u have to create managed paths for the profile and the mysite, which actually corresponds with the name of the DNS record/mysite webapp. For some reason when i am opening the mysite, i get a url something like http://my/my. What am i doing wrong? Can somebody just give me a step by step approach on how to configure Mysites in MOSS 2010?I am a SharePoint Infrastructure Engineer, focussed on Administration and Installation of SharePoint Server environments.

A general validation attribute for checking uniqueness in a linq to sql data context

I've been programming asp.net for, oh, a couple of days now. Here's a question I can't even begin to figure out for myself. I hope it's obvious from the code what I want to accomplish, and I have, but it's not pretty. Furthermore I'd like to use it on whatever table, whatever field, i.e. check the uniqueness of a value against a table and field I specify, passing it all into the attribute constructor. public class UniqueEmailAttribute : ValidationAttribute{    public UniqueEmailAttribute()    {    }    public override Boolean IsValid(Object value)    {        //not pretty. todo: do away with this.        var db = new CoinDataContext();        int c = db.Emails.Count(e => e.Email1 == value.ToString());        return (Boolean) (c == 0);    }}

General Question About Remembering Property Values Between Postbacks

Here are examples of two different ways I've found to story Property values between postbacks:    private bool Initialized    {      get      {        return Convert.ToBoolean(this.Attributes["Initialized"]);      }      set      {        this.Attributes["Initialized"] = value.ToString();      }    }    private int DataTableRowIndex    {      get      {        return (int)ViewState["DataTableRowIndex"];      }      set      {        ViewState["DataTableRowIndex"] = value;      }    }I'd appreciate any comments about differences between these two approaches [Attributes vs. ViewState].  Is one better or worse?Robert

General Tool Usage

I have imported a table into sql server 2008 express edition, my code has errors on specific lines. Is there a way for me to see the line numbers so I can debug. i.e.   Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 21

Discovering ODBC Tables, Columns and column Definitions

I have worked with ODBC data connections for a while.  Usually, I've setup a connection to some type of database (IBM ISeries, SQL Server, Progress, etc.) depending on the project and then I use MS Access to inspect or export the data using linked tables. I have a database that has numerous tables and columns.  In fact, I believe there are some 16k data columns in the entire database.  Furthermore, I have an excel file that gives me a list of all of these tables and a brief description of each column  but it does not have useful data types in the description.  What I would like to do is query the ODBC source and extract each table, it's columns and it's column data types. My end goal is to take the data from the spread sheet (column names and description) and insert that data into a database that also contains the correct, SQL data type in an additional field.  Is there a way to query an ODBC data source to acquire all of this information?

CommitChanges - General access denied error

Hi, We are developing a intranet web application through which our users can modify their profile information(in Active Directory). I am getting an error which says like this System.UnauthorizedAccessException: General access denied error at System.DirectoryServices.Interop.IAds.SetInfo() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.CommitChanges() Here is my vb code block --------------------------------------------------------------- Public sPath As String = "LDAP://domainname/OU=OITS,OU=ODI,DC=aa,DC=bb,DC=cc,DC=dd" Dim dsUser As DirectoryEntry = New DirectoryEntry(sPath, "domain/AdminID", "AdminPassword", AuthenticationTypes.Secure) dsUser = dsUser.Children.Find("CN=John") With dsUser.Properties .Item("displayname").Value = "John Doe" End With dsUser.CommitChanges() -------------------------------------------------------------- I am getting the above error while calling CommitChanges.
