No Javascript / JQuery intellisense in VWD 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I used to have intellisense for Javascript, including JQuery, in Visual Web Developer 2008. However in 2010 it has disappeared.  I have tried resetting my settings, but this has not helped.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

"innerHTML" not recognised in my Javascript Intellisense

Ho Do i change a value of a label control using client side?

Everyone says:

function Test()

{

document.getElementById('Labelj').innerHTML = 'Your new value';

}

The problem i am having is: I am trying to input the code, but when i type in the javascript, it is not recognising the "innerHTML" value.

It is not being promted in my intellisense, therefore the function is not working..is their something i am missing?

Calculating GridView total using JavaScript/JQuery

Hello everyone.

One month ago I've had very nice conversation with a asp.net forum member asking about issue regarding calculation of GridView textboxes total using JavaScript. The main thing was to allow user to manually write values in the text boxes (placed inside GridView column) and if the value has changed automatically to perform calculation on client side.

At the end of the conversation, we came up to two solutions. The first solution was using plain JavaScript, but since I thought it was not so robust, and in order to make it more robust we would need to write few more functions. Therefore, I have simply proposed another solution using JQuery which came up much better, more robust with less code.

In this blog post I will show both of the solutions and will provide step by step explanation on how we did that.

Note: I'm using VWD.

jQuery- JavaScript Library Write less do more

This is introductory post jQuery an open source JavaScript library. I know what you guys thinking and I also know that jQuery does not required introduction. It is so much popular and most of web developers whether they are developing using asp.net,php,Jsp or any language on web they are using jQuery but this post is for who is not aware of it and or they are new to the web based programming.

We all are using JavaScript for client side scripting language almost 95% percentage of web application uses JavaScript as client script. We do lots of things with JavaScript right from the alerts to validation of controls to animation and now days we calling web services from JavaScript and fetching server side data also and rendering them into browser. If you are using JavaScript then you are following some patterns like selecting a element on and then perform some operation on that element on client side like do validation of  controls or changing the style sheet of  that element or animating them etc. jQuery help you doing this in rather simpler way so you can save lots of time doing other things instead of writing long complex JavaScript.

Why jQuery?

jQuery is a fast and concise JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development. jQuery is designed to

Deploying and Using jQuery with a SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Solution

If you're an avid reader of this blog, you probably now that I'm quite a big fan of the jQuery Javascript library, especially in combination with SharePoint sites. For a while I've been trying to find a mechanism to deploy jQuery and add a reference to it on all SharePoint pages of a site, by just using a Sandboxed Solution. The first part, deploying the jQuery file, is really easy; this can be done in a Module in a SharePoint project. The second part was more of a challenge; making sure the jQuery file got referenced in all pages of a SharePoint site. My initial thought was to do this by using the AdditionalPageHead Delegate control, but it's not possible in a Sandboxed Solution (you need to deploy the .ASCX to the SharePoint root). My second thought was to use the new ScriptSrc attribute you can use in a CustomAction (I wrote about this attribute some time ago). But initially I was under the impression that the ScriptSrc attribute could only target Javascript files loaded from the SharePoint Root (the \LAYOUTS) folder, resulting in a no-go for a Sandboxed Solution as well. Daniel McPherson stumbled upon this issue as well, but neatly solved it using Javascript to add the reference dynamically. But apparently you can make use of the ScriptSrc attribute to reference files from the Virtual File System (e.g. a Document Library in a site) as well! (thank you Frederic Dobon for men

Javascript error when attempting to switch page layouts in SharePoint 2010

I hope I put this in the correct forum. I am experiencing the following error when attempting to change the layout of an existing SharePoint 2010 page. But it does not seem to happen on all page types, just publishing pages. This error is happening on both the development server and both test servers. I have look in to the logs, since if it a javascript error there was nothing, which would be expected but I had to try. I have look at the cui.js file but was unable to spend enough time trying to figure out what exactly is going on in this file. Error being received ... Cached Javascript file using feature VS 2010 - Bug?

Hi, I am using a custom action in an element.xml to reference an external script in my SP2010 solution - by adding a SP 2010 layouts folder and adding the script in there. Everything deploys and runs fine, however, if i update the javascript file and redeploy the solution, when debugging the javascript, the old (non updated) file is loaded and executed. I have tried retracting the feature and re-deploying, cleaning the solution, rebuilding and deploying, yet the javascript file loaded dynamically is still the old file. It seems to be updated intermittently, however, this is quite awkward as I cannot accurately guage when the file is refreshed. I am closing the IE window after every debug session.  Is there a process I should be following to ensure that the script is updated every time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Debugging Javascript VS 2010 BreakPoints

I'm using Visual Studio 2010. I'm trying to debug it but each time I try to set a break point in the Javascript I get a message at the bottom of the screen "This is not a valid location for a breakpoint."  Is there some setting I need to set?

beginner validation: jquery vs javascript vs codebehind

Hi

I've a webform that has around 10 textboxes that are filled with information from an event trigered by combobox.  so far so good.  The thing is that I need  that some textboxes should be validated against the sum of values of others,  and according to that assign given values.  Other textboxes should have a value according to those sum and datefield values.  I haven't found validation controls for asp.net so I assume that I should to it with javascript or jquery.  My concern as asp.net beginner is what happens if the user disables javascript?  If I make it with codebehind I'll have to refresh the page many times as I have many controls to validate.  What can I do ?

thanks in advance.

jQuery / javascript calling a webservice

I've tried a bunch of different examples and still can't get this to work.

I have a jQuery GalleryView control I'm using and I simply want to log impressions.  I set up a webservice that works, but I can't figure out how to get it to work in javascript.  I have verified that the webservice is working as expected.

Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols

Editing javascript with debugger attached (VS 2010)

A change between VS 2008 and VS 2010 seems to be preventing me from editing javascript files with the debugger attached.

Previously, when debugging a site running on local IIS7 (Win 7 x64), I could open one of the loaded scripts visible in the solution explorer, make a change, save it and reload the page.

In VS 2010 all of my loaded scripts are marked as [dynamic] [read-only] despite being served as static files.  So they are not editable.  In VS 2008 this only happened if I debugged external websites, not local ones running off of my own hard drive.

Is there a setting I may have wrong?  Either in IIS or VS?  The ability to easily correct js errors while in debug mode was a tremendous boon in my development process.
