hiding file-types and resources with Routing

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

does someone know elegant way to hidde/prevent direct access to some filetypes or web site resources, but that this resources remain accessible from application.

For example that mp3's in Music folder on www.somesite.info cannot be accessed directly via url like http://www.somesite.info/Music/SomeMP3Song.mp3

With routing off course.  I did something, but not very satisfied with it. :(

URL routing with a dynamic .sitemap file

Hi,I've implemented URL routing now I've upgraded to .NET 4 following http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2009/10/13/url-routing-with-asp-net-4-web-forms-vs-2010-and-net-4-0-series.aspx.The only problem I've encountered is with the .sitemap file. If I put, for example: <siteMapNode url="~/recipes/Starters" title="Browse Starters"> it renders correctly. However, I need to do something like this: <siteMapNode url="~/recipes/{category}" title="Browse {category}"> - i.e. dynamically giving a titleOr, I'd settle for something like this: <siteMapNode url="~/recipes/*" title="Browse Recipes"> - i.e. covering all recipe pages Has anyone found a nice solution to this?

Multiple File Uploads and blocked file types.

Hi hopefully someone can help me with this. I have removed a few file type extensions from the blocked file type administration interface (.ascx, ashx, dll) etc. If I browse to my shared folder I am able to load files of these types into my shared folder on a file by file basis, if however I try and use the drag and drop activex control facility for multiple files provided for IE8, files of these types are still blocked. If I also map a network drive from my PC to the shared folder and attempt to copy files of the above types, they're also being blocked. Perhaps someone has come across a similar issue and can shed some light on what they did to overcome this problem. Kind regards Paul

Setup Error - Failed to load resources from resource file

I tried to install The Lord of the Rings Online, but it always gives me the message (translated in english) that i need to install Net Framwork v1.1.4322. "ok, that's no problem" i thought, but every time i try to install Net Framework (any version) there are errors when trying to install it. With the 1.1 setup, it tells me "Setup Error - Failed to load resources from resource file", the 2.0 setup tells me that it is already installed (o.O?) but i can't see it in the "uninstall programs" list and the 3.0 and 3.5 just won't start. Nothing happens. I tried to install Net framework 4.0 beta which works fine but LotRO keeps telling me the same error message (i think because version 1.1 isn't included in higher versions)I'm running Windows 7 32 bit Ultimate: 2GB Ram, Intel Core duo e6750, GeForce 8800 gts (512 mb)Please help me :)

Use SharePoint 2010 to different video file types

Hi all,

I am new to SharePoint 2010 and have one question on Asset Libraries.

Asset Libraries is a new library type in SharePoint 2010. They are designed to hold media such as pictures and videos. We can upload a Windows Media Video (WMV) file to our Assets Library. However, can I upload other video types like MP4, flash or others?
If yes, how can I do that?
If no, are there any workaround for it?

Thanks in advanced.

Question about file types

I have a reporting services project and when I look at the file system I see my .rdl files which I expect and I also see .data files for each rdl file.  What is the purpose of the .data files and do they need to be in source control as well as the rdl files

Content Types vs Columns | Resources for newbies

I'm a newbie to Sharepoint generally and to Sharepoint 2010 in particular.  What is the difference between Content Types and Columns?  When would I use one over the other? Are there disadvantages/advantages to using one over the other?

Any Sharepoint 2010 "101" tutorials, articles or videos you recommend?

A word about me: I'm not a programmer or an IT administrator.  I'm getting a Masters in Information Management and am working as a student employee to help buid out an intranet site on campus. I understand the power of metadata, but am brand new to Sharepoint.

Thanks for your help!

Referencing image file stored in project resources through XAML

I'm sure this is super simple but I can't seem to figure this out.  Here is my scenario:

I have a bunch of .jpg image files that are included in a resources folder inside my project.  I want to reference them in XAML as follows:

<Image Name="SobeysImage" Stretch="Fill" ToolTip="Sobeys Image" FlowDirection="LeftToRight" Grid.Column="1" Source="Resources/sobeys1.jpg">

I get the following error message when I try to run the application:

Error 2 The file Resources\Sobeys1.jpg is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'. C:\_Development\PhotoTool\PhotoTool\Window1.xaml 10 117 PhotoTool

I made sure that I set the build action of the image to Resource.

What am I missing???

URL Routing, How to prevent normal file requests

AutoCAD Drawing File Types (.DWG) in SharePoint

When opening AutoCAD Drawing File Types (.DWG) in SharePoint 2007, if a user already has the file open and a second user opens the drawing, the user is not advised that the file is already open by another user like it does for Word or Excel file types.

Is there a way of enabling this so that if two users try to open the same file at the same time, they are advised of such?

Many thanks.

Any idea if Information Rights Management (IRM) will support additional file types in future version

In Sharepoint 2007, IRM supports Excell, Word and PowerPoint out of box...

Any idea if there will be additional out of box support for filetypes such as PDF, TIFF, Outlook Emails (.msg)...?

I am hoping to avoid creating custom protectors to protect the files and building an add-ons to software such as Adobe Reader to understand the RMS licences...

Looking forward to additional suggestion as well...
