How to install SQL-Server 2008 product key after evaluation time is over

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

in my SQL-Server 2008  installation (from de_sql_server_2008_r2_express_with_advanced_services_edition_november_ctp_x64_455228)the server is not running anymore. Apparently the evaluation time (180 days) is over and we seem not to have put in the product key. At least this is the error message I am getting.

Unfortunately, I can not find the actual tool or application to put in the product key.

Could anybody please help and let me know what I have to do to put the key in.

Thank you very much in advance !

Upgrade SQL server 2008 R2 from Evaluation Edition to Enterprise Edition

Hello SQL Support group, I have SQl server 2008 R2 installed on a Win 2003 R2 and it is for our SharePoint and Project server 2007 environment. Today I noticed that we have only 75 days left! Seems like we installed it on evaluation mode. Here what we have on Helpàabout : Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Complete (expires in 75 days)    10.50.1352.12 We do have MSDN account, and we have the KEY that comes with the SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise. We would like to assign the key to our SQl server ( we want to have enterprise edition). It is in a production environment now. I would like to know how we can do it  with minimum of down time. I found this link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sqlman/archive/2010/03/16/sql-server-2008-upgrading-to-standard-enterprise-edition-from-evaluation-edition.aspx On the internet, but doesn’t say anything that we are losing any data after upgrade or not. Please let us know the best way to assign the key, and if it has any impact in our data. Thanks Bahram

SQL Server 2008 R2 fails after Windows XP Pro SP3 install

We recently encountered an issue with SQL Server 2008 R2 failing to run after the upgrade from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3. This was tested and reproduced (with varying results) on more than one computer. Steps to reproduce this. On a Windows XP Pro machine with Service Pack 2 installed, install SQL Server 2008 R2. Next upgrade Windows to Service Pack 3. Now upon opening SSMS or trying to start the SQL server service you receive the following message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". In some instances reinstalling/repairing SQL Server 2008 R2 does fix the issue.  In other cases the installer crashes and you need to use msizap to clean it up before you can reinstall.  In other cases you do not receive any errors at all. After testing in multiple virtual machines it looks like the cleaner the Windows install the more likely you are to run into this issue.  On machines with most or all windows updates (prior to SP3) installed you do not necessarily even get the failure.  On machines with just Windows XP Pro SP2 installed with no additional updates you get the failure every time. Obviously the SQL Server 2008 R2 prerequisites are installed in all cases in order to be able to install SQL server to begin with. Any help with this would be appre

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help. Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express R2 after installing .NET 4.0

Hi experts, I intend to redistribute SQL Server 2008 Express R2 in my installer. I've extracted the setup files from SQLEXPR32_x86.exe and pass in the appropriate command line parameters during the setup. Recently, I noticed if I applied the following Windows Update: .NET 4.0 Client Profile, I will hit into the following error when I installed SQL express. .NET Runtime 4.0 Error Reporting EventType clr20r3, P1 setup100.exe, P2 10.50.1600.1, P3 4bb67524, P4 mscorlib, P5, P6 4ba1da6f, P7 44f0, P8 32, P9 system.security.security, P10 NIL. .NET Runtime Application: setup100.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.Security.SecurityException Stack: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.DebugBreak() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.Main() Running the setup.exe from a file server will give these errors but if I copied the entire setup files to a local folder and run setup.exe from there, it runs fine. May I know what am I missing? I definitely need to support to install SQL express running from a file server location. Thanks, MK

named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

SQL Server 2008 Express impossible to install.

As part of ARCserve backup r15, SQL Server 2008 Express is to be installed on a windows 2003 sp2 server (french language). All the prerequistes are present (power shell, .NET 3.5, Windows Installer 4.5...). The install fails with an -2147024893 error. I have not found anything conclusive about this error on the net. To get down on the issue I tried to install sql 2008 Express SP1 manually first. It fails with no error, returning to the main installation screen after installing the support files. The SQLSetup.log shows no apparent error but stop abruptly with the following : "Attempting to launch process d:\23ab1738a0f035434457b033\x86\setup100.exe"... as if this attempt was "suspended in the air". I have already tried to uninstall/install .NET 3.5 SP1, PowerShell, Windows Installer 4.5. No previous version of SQL had never been existed on this server. I even run "caspol.exe /machine -reset". I have tried the installation with SQL 2008 Express in english... I made registry cleanups... It's been one week of investigation and for the first time in my career I'm "dry". Is my case desperate ? Thanks   ******************* I enclosed the summary.txt when it's ARCServe r15 which is installing. I notice that "requested action" is "RemoveNode". I suppose it's related to any cluster. But we have not any cluster on the

Easy install package vs MsSQL server 2008

Is there anything i wont be able to do if i use SQL Server Express Database from the downlod install package offered on asp.net? Ive used MSSQL server 2008 and 2005, but to be honest i think it might be overkill cause im not very familiar with those applications. I just need the database for creating websites. Will i be able to remote connect to my webbhotel host and remotely modify the database on the remote server? Now i have a mess, i have installed both MsSQL 2005 and 2008 and im not even sure wich database is created with what. I would love to just have one simple setup, but im not sure if i can manage to migrate the databases to the new computer with this easy install package. The easy install package contains: ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC Visual Studio 2010 Express Development Tool SQL Server Express DatabaseThanks for your time!

SQL server 2008 failover cluster install

Hello all, Looking for the definitive answer with supporting documentation (link). Does a SQL server 2008 cluster have to be installed as or run as a domain service account or can local accounts be used?  I looked for a document that stated yes or no and could not find one. If anyone can provide info it would be much appreciated. Have all ready looked at these 2 links of interest. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Service_SID http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731002(WS.10).aspx Thanks in advance,

SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin

Product Key for SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi All, I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2008 R2 from the disk I received as part of my latest MSDN shipment (Disc 5003), and am being prompted for a product key.  However when I attempt to acquire a product key from subscriber downloads, I'm told that SQL Server 2008 R2 is pre-pidded.  So I am effectively unable to install except in evaluation mode.  Any ideas as to why? Thanks for any input, Steve
