Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updati

Hi This has me somewhat perplexed! I am attempting to install a SQL Server 2005 KB970894 patch (having downloaded the patch to apply it locally rather than using Microsoft update - which also fell over) . It updates all but Database Services! I am receiving "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updating Installed Files. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified." Things I have checked: I am running this on Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Domain Admin I have checked that the SIDS are current for the Local User Groups using PSGetSid as listed in the microsoft support article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925976 Having set "Show Hidden Files" in Folder OptionsI can't find the file C:\WINNT\Installer\MSI1DC.tmp (however it may have bee removed during a "clean up"). Any ideas? Microsoft SharePoint server 2010 encountered an error during setup. One or more required office comp

I am encountering this error during setup. The server previously had WSS 3.0 and the Group Board Workspace. I uninstalled those and installed sharepoint foundation 2010. Initially It was up and running but I was receiving errors trying to load the group space template, so I uninstalled SPF2010. cleaned up the registry pointers to the old WSS3.0 and Groupboard Workspace and tried to reinstall. Now I get the error

Microsoft SharePoint server 2010 encountered an error during setup. One or more required office components failed to complete successfully.

Looking into the issue it appears that setup cannot install the embedded sql server, since the logs indicate a dbwrap error. There are no "pendingfilerename" operations which fixed this problem for some. I tried to install as a farm but it won't allow me to use a local admin account.  I also looked at the sql configurations and the windows internal database is running.

Any ideas how to I can remove the windows internal database and reinstall SF2010?

Error Handling: Throwing Custom Exception Types from a Managed COM+ Server Application

Exception handling semantics in .NET are based on type, so you can create custom exceptions that have their own properties and methods. In .NET, exceptions are first-class citizens, and since they're the built-in error handling mechanism, all .NET-compliant languages must support exceptions. In addition, COM+ services are available to .NET code as Enterprise Services, so you can leverage exceptions in your Enterprise Services design.In this article the author describes custom exceptions, throwing exceptions across COM interop boundaries, and working with Enterprise Services.

2008 R2 Tuning Advisor reports "Error: Exception encountered(DTAEngine)"

I am encountering an error when I try to use the SQL 2008 R2 Database Engine Tuning Advisor. I create a very simple workload (either by right-clicking a query in SSMS or by loading a file), and click Start Analysis.  In the "Consuming Workload" step DTA aborts, and in the message column displays "Error: Exception Encountered(DTAEngine)". When I click on the error message, I get a dialog box with a title of DTAEngine, and a message "Error: Exception encountered". This is a clean test environment (SQL 2008 R2 Data Center Edition 64-bit, on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, in a VM) against a local database. Any ideas about what the problem is or how to resolve it? Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 generates the same error every time ( "SQL Server 2008R2\Resouces\1033\Setup.rll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error tryinstalling the program again using the original installation media." Then when I click on OK (From the error box) I get the following message: SQL Server MEdia does not support the language of the OS or doewn't have an ENU lcalized files. Use the matching language specific SQL. I am using a full version of both Windows Server and SQL Server.

Internal Server Error Exception when Searching (in CoreResultsWebPart::OnInit)

Hello, We are encountering an "Internal server error exception" when we attempt to search. Internal server error exception on search results page when no language is set in browser

Error occurred while SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup

I already have sql server 2005 running on my computer (Win XP SP2) and I have been trying to install the Sql server 2008 R2 version. (I've downloaded in last week.)   While I'm installing, I got the following msg box : The following eror has occurred: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action, or click 'Cancel' to cancel this action and continue setup.   At that time, Installation progress show "ASConfigAction_install_postmsi_Cpu32". So I assumed something is wrong in SSAS installation.   I just click "Cancel" in the above msg box as I have no choice.   After completed, it show "Failed" in "Analysis Services".   Then I restarted my PC. When I try to start SSAS service manually, I got the following msg box.   The SQL Server Analysis Services (Instance_Name) service failed to start due to the following error:  Error 1053 : The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.    Actually I just want to try CUBE in this version. (my deadline is coming friday.)  :(   Please advise & thanks in advance.

Access is denied error thrown in "Setup Secure Session" activity

Hello,
Could someone help me with the following issue, please?

System setup:
- Windows 2008 R2 server hosting both MVC2 web application and WCF service for it;
- users connect to the web application which gets all data from the WCF services;
- WCF services are resused by several other applications (WinForms based) which work fine and have never experienced any security related problems;
- MVC2 uses impersonation (<identity impersonate="true"/>) to connect to WCF services, so we have single security boundary for both web and winforms clients (which are out of scope of the problem);
- both MVC2 web application and WCF services share the same ASP.NET v4.0 DefaultAppPool application pool, running under NetworkService identity;
- all users, user PCs and servers belong to the same AD domain, which is a part of global corporate tree;
- all unhandled exceptions are automatically caught by the web application and forwarded to application developers' e-mail box;
- WCF binding setup in web application:

<wsHttpBinding>
    <binding name="WSHttpBinding_BifrostServices" closeTimeout="00:10:00"
     openTimeout="00:10:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:10:00"

Search server 2010 setup - error creating search service application

I am running in a very similar siutation as this post:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/sharepoint2010setup/thread/3215D0B3-1BEC-4AEE-844D-DECDE9DEA1D8

I am configuring a new Search Server 2010 production environment.

I used the search setup account to run the setup and run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard.

During the first run of the SharePoint configuration wizard (where the farm account and service applications are setup), the process failed because the search service application could not be created.

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: User does not have permissiont to perform this action.

I was under the assumption that the setup account had securityadmin and dbcreator SQL Server roles.  However, this was not the case and I had them added.  My original thought was the setup failed because of this.  After those roles were added, I tried to recreate the search service application and I still get a failure.

I am pretty sure I have followed the prerequisites as prescribed by Microsoft in terms of account setup (

Error during SQL Server 2008 setup on windows 7 home premium

Hi,

I have Windows 7 home Premium on 64 bit machine. I have installed Visual Studio 2008 sucessfully and SQL Server 2008 installer also shows "successful" installation. However when I try to login thru Sql mgmt Studio, I get error " No process is on the other end of the pipe". I checked SQL Server configuration and Named Pipes configuration, that seems all right. When I checked event log, it had following msg:

The Tabular Data Stream (TDS) version 0x730a0003 of the client library used to open the connection is unsupported or unknown. The connection has been closed.

on googling, some of posts suggest to download .Net f/w 2.0 SP1. I downloaded the same from MS site, but on instllation, I get msg "this version is not supported on windows vista".

Please suggest any solution/workaround, i have been struggling with this for sometime now.

thanks in advance

throw exception message giving internal server error on live site

using vb.net/asp.net 2005

when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500).  The code below:

            If isThisEmailValid(strEmailThatTheUserEntered) Then
		'do something

            Else

                Throw New Exception("You entered a bad email address.")

            End If

not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites.  has anyone seen this before?  For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.

as always, thanks for your feedback
