SQL 2005 OpenXML causing deadlock

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
In our project we have used extensively OpenXML  statements in Stored Procedures inside SQL Transaction. Oflate, we started seeing lot of deadlocks happenning in our environment. On further investigation we found thatmoving openXML statments outside transaction block and populating the data in table variable and use that inside transaction helped us ot resolve issues. Is there anything connected with OpenXML and Deadlock. We tested with around 6-8 concurrent requestsfrom fronend app (ASP.NET)

PAGEIOLATCH_SH causing long delays after upgrade to SQLSERVER 2005

Some processes in our PeopeSoft system are running extremely long after upgrading from SQLSERVER 2000 to SQLSERVER 2005 SP4. Processes that use to run in 15 minutes now take 4 hours to run. Some processes run in the same amount of time and don't seem to be affected by the upgrade. When I examine the long running processes in Activity Monitor I see the wait type showing up as PAGEIOLATCH_SH. Any ideas as to what might be going on? Our SQLSERVER implementation is a standard install. What should we be looking at to improve the situation?

SQL Server 2005 Profiler Deadlock Graph

The Deadlock graph displays process nodes, but doesn't show resource nodes (and of course no edges).  How do I fix this?

SQL Server 2005 Deadlock issue - Incompatible locks honoured!!!

I'm seeing an interesting deadlock problem with SQL Server 2005 (2000 mode) where incomptible locks are being honoured (U & X). This was already granted before the deadlock & the each of the processes try to get a 'U' lock again and results in deadlock. Deadlock graph is shown below. The table in question (PLTransactionSeq)  is used for Sequencing & only has 1 record. It has a clustered index on the sequence field.

Did I read the deadlock graph incorrectly ?

Deadlock for a cube processing - SSAS 2005

I have a scheduled job with a step that calls a cube processing. This job run daily. Some times the processing stops for a deadlock. I have seen that when the processing overcomes 60-70 minutes a deadlock occurs. Is it possible that any settings for the Analysis Server instance can affect to the deadlock occurence?

Many thank for your helps.

Capturing deadlock events in SQL Server 2005 - SP2

I need to capture the deadlock events with SQL Profiler. A deadlock occurs for a SSAS 2005 processing cube and with my trace with the deadlock events selected isn't able to register the deadlock! Do I activate any trace flags to capture and analyze this deadlock?

Any suggests to me to solve this issue, please? Many thanks

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:

build repository from SQL 2005? for a Linq, Jquery autocomplete

  I have the a question am going about his correctly I have a database for categories, it has many fields and about 4000 records,  but with a Jquery autocomplete needing speed and the fact that I only need to return a key and category name. I did the following:  (oh just to note, MVC2, Ajax project)

    public class categorySearch
        public Guid Category_GUID { get; set; }
        public string Category_Name { get; set; }

and now for the repository

    public class categoryRepository
        internal List<categorySearch> FindCategory(string searchText, int maxResults)
            List<categorySearch> category = new List<categorySearch>();
            dbWebEntities storedb = new dbWebEntities();

            var getcat = storedb.Categories.ToList();

            foreach (var item in getcat)
                category.Add(new categorySearch { Category_GUID = item.Cat_GUID, Category_Name = item.Category_Name});

            var result = from c in category
                         where c.Category_Name.Contains(searchText)

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

 I have two SQL Server instances installed.

 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

OpenXML Add commnet to Spreadsheet

I'm trying to add comments to cells in an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I'm using the OpenXml SDK 2.0 to do so.

My use case is, I am editing Excel file and adding comments as my starting point,

Problem is that when I add Comment to the Comments part the spreadsheet doesn't load and Excel asks if I want to recover. Comments I added programmatically are not showing.

here is my code

                    WorksheetCommentsPart commentsPart = worksheetpart.AddNewPart<WorksheetCommentsPart>();
                    ssXML.Comments comments1 = new ssXML.Comments();

                    ssXML.Authors authors1 = new ssXML.Authors();
                    ssXML.Author author1 = new ssXML.Author();
                    author1.Text = "Author";

Reporting Services SQL 2005 .Net 4 compatibility?

I've been working on my first asp.net application and for the most part it's been pretty smooth.  Right now I'm having trouble getting reporting services working under SQL Server 2005.  I developed the site with Visual Studio 2010 and didn't think about any of the .Net 4.0 compatibility issues that have arisen.  I'm having no problems with the site communicating with SQL Server 2005 for the regular database stuff.  The only problem I'm having is with setting up Reporting Services.  I have the .Net 4.0 framework installed on the server, however Reporting Services is still using 2.x.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with SSRS or with IIS.  When i go to localhost/Reports it's reading my web.config for my application and throwing an error: "Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'."  This is referring to a line in my web.config where targetFramework is set to 4.0.

Software that I'm using:

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SQL Server 2005 Standard
  • IIS 7.0
  • .Net 4.0

Any suggestions?
