SQL 2008 Upgrade Standard to Enterprise: Fail

I'm trying to upgrade an existing SQL Server 2008 SP1 Standard Edition to Enterprise.  Running the enterprise edition maintenance->Upgrade Edition wizard first got me the dreaded "Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created." Eventually, I found an entry on Connect that mentioned closing all other windows and ensuring that the installer has the focus and this got me past that error.  Now that I can run the edition upgrade through to successful completion, it's not actually doing anything. Edition still reports as "Standard" and enterprise features such as "Compress Backups" do not work. I've run the upgrade twice and restarted the system to no effect. Before I do a "Rip and Replace" does anyone have any ideas on how to actually get the edition upgrade to work? Steve G. Failures in running Repair for 2008 SQL Server standard edition

Dear users,

2008 SQL Server Standard edition.

While running Repair I got below failures,

1. Upgrade failed due to the following error. The error code is :-214747259.Message:Unspecified error

2. The process cannot access the file 'C:\Windows\system32\perf-SQLSERVERAGENT-sqlagtctr10.0.1600.22.dll' because it is being used by another process.

3. The service did not start due to a logon failure.

I wonder what causes the failures and what I should do to fix them.

Could you tell me what to do?

Thank you,

MSSQL 2008 SP1 install fails: A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair

When attempting to install SQL Server 2008 SP1, I get the "Setup Failure" message below, along with Error code 0x84B20001.  I did read the summary*.txt files from previous installations in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log" as mentioned in the error message; the "Final result" and "Exit message" of the previous install is "Passed", so I'm not finding an answer that way.  I have also pasted the version info below.  What would you advise?

A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair during configuration for features [SQL_DTS_Full,Connectivity_Full,SQL_SSMS_Full,SDK_Full,Tools_Legacy_Full,SQL_BIDS_Full,SQL_SSMS_Adv,SQL_PowerShell_Tools_ANS,SQL_WRITER,]. In order to apply this patch package (KB968369), you must resolve any issues with the previous operation that failed. View the summary.txt log to determine why the previous operation failed.

SharePoint 2010 and Reporting Services 2008 R2 Integration Fail - Failed to establish connection wit

We have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition on a virtual server (C-SQL) and SharePoint Server 2010 on another virtual server (C-SPOINT), with the SQL Backend of the SharePoint database residing on C-SQL. This worked fine.

SQL Server was installed with the domain administrator account and SharePoint with an account called 'visi' that has domain administrator privileges.

SSRS on C-SQL was initially installed as a native database. I changed this to a SharePoint integrated database with all authentications done as the visi user. Report server url was set to the normal http://C-SQL:80/ReportServer/.

On the SharePoint central administration site under General Application Settings -> Reporting Services Integration I filled in the details as required:

Hello we have a WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 with a single site, and we are trying to migrate it to another server with Windows Server 2008. All database are on a Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

We installed WSS 3.0 from scratch on the new server. We put the default databases on a server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Then we made a backup in the production server with the following command: stsadm -o backup -url https://portal -filename musa.bak

After that we restored the backup in the new server with the following command:  stsadm -o restore -url https://uymvd18 -filename c:\sharepoint\portal-2010-10-05-21-00-06.dat -overwrite

(portal is the name of the old server and uymvd18 is the name of the new one)

Everything worked ok, but the when we try to do a search in the new se

Reports referencing .NET Framework 4.0 fail to upload to SSRS 2008

    We are running SSRS 2008 on a 64-bit Windows Server 2008 SP2

When attempting to deploy a report containing a reference to a .NET Framework 4.0 assembly via the Report Manager, we get an error.

For example, when deploying a report referencing System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089, we get the following error:

Error while loading code module: ‘System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089’. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (rsErrorLoadingCodeModule)

The same report deploys correctly in a development environment (Windows 7 64-bit, SSRS 2008).

The Win2k8 server has .NET Framework 4.0 installed and is fully patched.

Is there a strategy for troubleshooting this issue?

    Thanks!

Broken Sql 2008 install, can't uninstall or repair

I recently got a dedicated server from a hosting company. It is running Windows 2008 R2 on x64. I think there may have been a previous Sql or Sql Express install which I removed.

I tried to install Sql 2008 Enterprise and got an error about INSTANCESHAREDDIR and/or INSTANCESHAREDWOWDIR not being valid and that I needed to add them into the command line. I added INSTALLSHAREDDIR and INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR to the command line and was able to get the install to complete but it said some of the components failed (one of which was the actual database engine).

So now I'm trying to uninstall or repair, but every time I do I get a message that the INSTANCESHAREDDIR and INSTANCEWOWDIR are not valid and need to be included as part of the command line. When I do include them I get a message that they are not allowed as part of the command line for an uninstall or repair.

Basically I'm completely stuck because I can't uninstall or repair. I've been trying things for a few hours with no luck. If anyone can help I'd be happy to include any of the log files, exact error messages, etc. Please just let me know if you'd like to troubleshoot the uninstall or repair issue. Also if anyone knows where I could manually set values for those 2 variables I could try doing that.

    Thanks in advance,

    James

RAISERROR does not cause OLE DB Source Task to fail in SSIS 2008?

    Greetings,

I have a stored procedure with a TRY / CATCH block.  In the catch block I capture information about the error.  And then use RAISERROR to "rethrow" the exception so that it will be available to SSIS.

I notice that there is a defect reported which is about Execute SQL Task. "Execute SQL Task not signalling failure on a Raiserror." https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=276828&wa=wsignin1.0

It was fixed in SSIS 2008. But I found that RAISERROR still cannot fail a data flow source task. The stored procedure is executed in OLE DB Source task. The RAISERROR is justed omitted by OLE DB Source task and the task box turns green. But if there is any exception throw by system (eg. 1/0), it would fail the task.

Here are the two stored procedures I tried.

    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GenerateErrorA]
    AS
    BEGIN
     BEGIN TRY
      Select 1/0 AS A
     END TRY
     BEGIN CATCH
      RAISERROR('Error Raised', 16, 1)
     END CATCH
    END

    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GenerateErrorB]
    AS
    BEGIN
     SET NOCOUNT ON;
     Select 1/0 AS A
    END

    Only stored proce

2 Node Clustered SQl 2008 Sql Server Agent & Analysis Services Fail on only one node

    Hi,

Until recently this worked ok, however now on one of the 2 nodes if I fail over SQL all of the services start, on the other node, Sql Server Agent & Analysis Services will not come on line. I have checked some of the other links suggestiing fixes but they dont seem to apply. On the Node where it fails you get an error 53 for the server agent the Analysis Services fails with Generic service 'Analysis Services' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service.  Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.

attached is the details from the Sql Log
