Deploying SSRS Reports from Visual Studio 2010 to Report Manager 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Our Report server is using Report Manager 2008. Previously I would load reports to it that I created via BIDS. Now I have to use VS 2010. I see that I can build and deploy reports there. Can I send it from VS 2010 to the REport manager 2008 on the other machine? I should add that now i have to develop on laptop only before i was on the server.

If not what are my options? I recall that vs 2005 objects were not taken in Report manager 2008.

crystal report -visual studio 2008 dual axis chart (bar & line)

dear all,

i use crystal report integrated with  vs.2008, and i want to make chart with dual axis (bar & line).

i have used bar chart and input the data with 2 values..

then in chart options > template, i activated the dual axis..

my question is, how i can change the 2nd value with line chart not bar chart??

i'd tried to find the right settings in "chart options" but still can't find the solution.

for information in "chart options" there are 4 sub menu : template, general,titles,grid..

i read in a tutorial there's more sub menu called "series" in crystal report (stand alone version)..

is it possible doing it in Crystal Report VS. 2008?

please,, i need your advice and solution..

Thanx before..

WPF Designer (in VS 2008 and VS 2010) crashes with Visual Studio

Good day all. I have the following question: WPF designer in both VS 2008 and VS 2010 crashes with Visual Studio when I try to edit UI form. Moreover, it crashes even when I try to save .xaml.cs file. Meanwhile, Winforms and Dataset UI editors work as usual. Are there other people met this issue? And how could I fix up this problem? Deleting the .suo file, uninstalling silverlight, repairing visual studio, and further googling did not help me. Thanks in advance.

Visual Studio 2010 - SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2

I have just rebuilt my development platform i.e. I ran the Windows 7 Ultimate setup app on an X86 platform followed by a fresh install of Visual Studio 2010 Prof. Using VS I opened up a solution created before the rebuild which includes a connection to an .mdf file. On attempting to connect to this file I Got an error message of the  follwing type. The database '.../XXX.MDF' cannot be opened because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported. Referring to this link http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlgetstarted/thread/0a4082a2-793e-42c3-9f68-95041002b4de, leads me to believe that VS2010 uses SQL Express 2008 for database access and that I had been using(unknowingly) SQL Express 2008 R2 during my previous development activities. If that is the case two questions arise :- Why does VS2010 install package install the four 2008 R2 components when I presume that these would also be incompatible with SQL Server Express 2008? Is there a version of SQL Server 2008 R2 - since I assume that R2 is the latest and greatest version - that I can install on my machine and if so how do I tell VS to use 2008 R2 rather than plain old 2008? I hope these questions do not seem like the meanderings of a raddled brain, but any light you can throw on them, would help me gain a better understanding of the relationship bet

How to use the Microsoft Report Viewer in Miscorosft Visual Studio 2008?

Currently, I need to use this Microsoft Report Viewer to create several reports. The problem I'm having is that within the Microsoft Report Viewer, there are 2 functions that I needed some coding help. The 2 functions are the print function and also the export function. I'm connected to the local host only for this project. Please provide some code example on these 2 functions. Thank you so much.

SSRS 2008 Custom Authentication works when using ReportServer url but not when report manager url is

Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 with Custom security extension for authentication. The extension is developed in c#. I have placed the dll under report server bin and report manager bin directory and the logon, login pages under appropriate directory. My reports manager url is http://localhost:port/Reports and my reports server url is http://localhost:port/ReportServer. When I try to login through reports manager url, I am getting 'login failed' error message from the dll. But when I try to login using reports server url, it works. I have also set 'FullTrust' named permission set in RSMgrPolicy.config . <CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> < IMembershipCondition class = " ZoneMembershipCondition " version = " 1 " Zone = " MyComputer " /> Any suggestions please!   Thanks!

Visual Studio 2010 Lab Environment for Student to deploy to a IIS 7.5 web server with SQL 2008

Currently the environment I am trying to create is a teaching lab for Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET website development. The intent is to setup an environment where students can create a website with an attached database written with the assistance of Visual Studio 2010. When the website is completed they need to use one of the Visual Studio deploy technologies to upload the website to a locally run server (Windows 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5 running and SQL Server 2008.) I am responsible for setting up the correct deploy technology in Visual Studio as well as setting up the IIS 7.5 deployment server that is running the right version of SQL Server. I have already started this process and figured out how to configure a deployment package in visual studio and have it published on our local server. I am trying to get a very streamlined environment that does not require students have to configure a lot of SQL strings and IIS settings because this is not really what the teaching lab is all about. Just to let you know, we have had  this exact setup using Visual Studio 2008, Server 2003 with front page server extensions on IIS 6.0 and SQL Server Compact edition running on the server. My issue is that since it is now time to update everything there does not seem to be something comparable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has an idea of the

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

Need help deploying SP2010 Document Converter using Visual Studio 2010

I have created an SP 2010 Document Converter app, which seems to work fine in all respects except it doesn't seem to be converting documents in SharePoint. I think there is a problem with the way that I'm deploying the converter executable to the server, but I am having trouble finding the specific issue.

Some notes:
* SP 2010 sees the document converters in my Elements.xml file and is making them available in Sharepoint.
* When I tell SP2010 to convert a document using one of my Converters, I can tell that the service is trying to do *something* in the Central Administration console (job shows up with progress bar and sits there for a while). I have no idea what it's actually doing during that time though.
* All of my executable and executable DLLs have been defined in VS2010 as having "Application Resource" Deployment Types - not sure if this is right because the MS SP2010 SDK info doesn't seem to give much guidance on this subject. VS 2010 is deploying all of the appropriate executable files to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\resources\PDFDocumentService\DocumentConverter\". I have no idea if this is a sensible location for document converter executable files. When I try to run my executable in this location from the command line, it works fine.

My guess is that there's a disconn

Windows XP, Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express - How can I save modified columns

I am using c# in VS 2010 Express. I have a MDF database that I connect to through "Database Explorer". Database Explorer will not let me SAVE columns that I have modified. As I know in SQL Server 2008 full edition you can change the setting "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" in Management Console to prevent this. I haven't got Management Console and can't see it in install.

How do I change this setting if I haven't got management console? Is it in Registry or Config File.

SSRS 2008 formatting issue - different in visual studio preview/pdf/excel vs. internet explorer

The formatting of the report is perfect when viewed in Visual studio and also after exporting it to pdf or excel. But when I deployed my solution and opened it on IE/Firefox there is a lot of problem in formatting. Specifically the row height is giving me a problem. I manually entered them to be 0.1in and made the CanGrow field as false to force that row height but some rows in the tablix expand ( to 0.15in, which is the height of my header). This is true for a matrix as well. Is there is a feature to lock the row height in IE o any other web browser?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer with Visual Studio 2010 Pro always defaults using SQLEXPRESS

I had un-installed SQL Server 2008 Express that came with the Visual Studio 2010 Pro.

I had installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer, and Im able to connect through the Management Studio and Visual Studio itself.

The problem is: whenever I create a new ASP.NET Web Application, the web.config always defaults using SQLEXPRESS.

How can I change this within Visual Studio 2010 so that the web.config defaults to the new database SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer that I installed?

Can not establish a connection to SQL Server 2008 R2 via Visual Studio 2010 Framework 4.0

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

      <!--<add name="ApplicationServices"
            connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated   Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|\aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
            providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />-->
      <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="data source=user-5529234649\Step

After Visual Studio 2010 conversion from 2008 pages won't display in browser correctly

I just upgraded to 2010 and converted my VS 2008 ASP.NET web application. There were no conversion errors and everything displays in the Design mode correctly but when I try to View in Browser or debug the site won't display. I just get a blank page untitled page displayed.

Can anyone help me out with this problem?
