Upgrading SharePoint 2010 from Beta 2 to RC or RTM

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Microsoft have stated that they cannot gaurentee that there will be no more database schema changes between Beta 2 and RTM and as such there is no upgrade path from Beta 2 to RTM.  This leave the TAP and the PEP participants in a bit of a hole in that they have signed up to having sites live by the time SharePoint 2010 goes RTM.

Jie Li on his blog has stated that

If you are exporting/importing content that means you are "migrating". It would be fine. However attach a beta content database to RTM will not work.

So can it be confirmed that I can use the deployment API to export content from say a Beta 2 site and again using the deployment API can import that content into a RTM site.

In reality  I would use Chris O'Brien's SharePoint Deployment Wizard which uses the deployment API.

I installed Sharepoint 2010 beta 2 on Windows 2008 sp2, use standalone mode, then configuration RBS according the document http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663474(office.14).aspx, but when I want to use Power shell enable rbs, it will throw error:PS C:\> $rbss.Installed()TruePS C:\> $rbss.Enable()Exception calling "Enable" with "0" argument(s): "SQL remote blob storage mustbe installed on each web front end server and on the content database before it may be used."At line:1 char:13+ $rbss.Enable <<<< ()    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : DotNetMethodExceptionis there anybody meet the same issue with me? does anybody know how to resolve this issue? thanks very much.

Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Foundation on SBS Server 2008

Hi all, I've just tried to install SharePoint Foundation on 2010 on Windows Small Business Server 2008 and whilst the literature I've found suggests that this is supported, I receive the following error: SharePoint 2010 Products cannot be installed in Stand-alone mode on a Domain Controller.  For more information on upgrading, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=975805. What's funny about the KB ID, is that it doesn't exist.  The pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 Foundation installed OK and the SharePoint installer has detected that it will perform an in-place upgrade.  the STSADM -o preupgradecheck output is below. Any idea's?  It would be really great if we could start using the shared workspace and ribbon features that are inherent with SPF2010. Jason.

Upgrading from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint 2010

We currently have WSS 3.0 but at this time haven't decided on whether we will upgrade or do a fresh install on new servers for Sharepoint 2010. If we do a fresh install of Sharepoint 2010 on it's own servers, is there any way to migrate existing sites (blogs, wiki's, document libraries) from WSS 3.0? I don't even know if that is possible, if so, is there any information out there on this can be done? What could we loose in the process? Regards, Lisa

I started all the SharePoint related services, but the error pop-up anyway...

SharePoint 2010 without upgrading to Office 2010?

We planned on upgrading our SharePoint server from 2007 to 2010 before rolling out Office 2010 by about 6 months. We were just told yesterday that this is a bad idea due to incompatabilities with Infopath and SharePoint Designer. We realize we have to run SPD 2010 with SharePoint 2010, but are the other Office applications really that big of a deal? We only have a handful of SPD users, out of thousands of everyday users. All of our Infopath forms are designed to be browser based, and not opened in the client.

If this is a really an issue, what types of problems will we see running the Enterprise version of SharePoint 2010 while our users will be on Office 2007? For Infopath developement, can we not just upgrade those developers to Office 2010, and leave the rest of our users on 2007 for a while longer? The only real issue I can find would be some of the Office Web Applications would have features disabled if the user didn't have a full Office 2010 Suite installed.

Infopath 2010 Beta Sharepoint List

This is a followup question from: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/452ad036-cad7-4439-a119-2b956db2fd9f
Earlier, I had issues with Forms Services not appearing in Sharepoint, which was resolved with a reinstall of Sharepoint with Enterprise Feartures.

Now I am trying to create a Sharepoint List form from Infopath 2010 Beta. When I try to browse the Sharepoint site url, I get the following error message:
"This feature requires InfoPath Form Services 2010 or greater on the Sharepoint site." InfoPath Designer 2010 Beta error message

InfoPath Form Services 2010 is certainly enabled on the site as the following screenshot shows:
InfoPath Forms Services 2010 ** Update ** Tried to create a custom InfoPath form and got this message
This form template is browser-compatible, but it cannot be browser enabled on selected site. This may be caused by one of the following reasons:
- The server is not running InfoPath Form Services
- The necessary

Constant 'server restart pending' whenever I try to install Sharepoint Server 2010 Beta

I've installed all the prerequisites just fine, but every time I run the main installation program it tells me:

"Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):

A system restart from a previous installation or update is pending. Restart your computer and run setup to continue."

After restarting, and doing nothing else, I run the setup again to get the same result.  There are no pending restarts, Server Manager itself normally complains if there is a restart pending, so I don't know where it is getting this from.

THe next thing I will try is to give it a little more RAM in case it makes a difference; the virtual machine currently has 4GB overall and has a few other minor roles as well.  But it would make sense for the installation program to say that instead of telling me it's a reboot.

Office 2010 required before upgrading or installing SharePoint Foundation 2010??

Is it required now to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Foundation etc. first before using Office 2010 with SharePoint??

Or can Office 2010 work in even a limited manner with WSS 3.0??

Thank you, Tom
