Active Directory last name changed not updated in sharepoint service 3.0 sp2

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

we have an active directory member where the last name has changed. However the change is not reflected in sharepoint services sites. When the user opens the sharepoint sites the old last name is displayed. When i look under the properties of the user in sharepoint the last name and the email-adress is still the old one.

How can i correct that?

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

Small site embedded login validating against Active Directory and redrecting to SharePoint site

I am only finding pieces of this information.

Challenge: Have a standard page with a login box in the corner that is exposed on the web.  The login will validate an employee against AD and also redirect them to a site collection.

I have found information on claims based authentication and the AD Membership provider.  I have also found information on form based login pages.  Most of these examples though just modify the SharePoint form login.  I want to create just a small login box on a page that is already created.  The one thing that I can't seem to find any really solid information on is the redirect to a site collection.

Can anyone tie all of this together for me?  Am I using the correct terminology and heading down the right path.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changes in Active Directory not reflected in SharePoint user info

I have a client who uses WSS 3.0 w/ SP1, and does not want to move to MOSS 2007.  The client will be migrating to Exchange 2007 soon, and part of this migration will include populating attributes for the user objects in Active Directory so that the phone numbers, addresses, departments, etc are all stored in AD.  The problem is that the mojority of the user base has already used SharePoint, and when each user first used SharePoint, their info was imported from AD.  Is there a way to force an import so that all the user info in SharePoint will be updated based on what is in Active Directory?  Is it possible to do it in the reverse direction so that users can update their info in SharePoint, and have it write back to their AD user object?

Building Groups in Active Directory versus Using SharePoint Groups

Can someone point me to an article or blog that discusses the pros and cons of setting groups (owner, full control, contributor, read only) in the Active Directory verus just connecting MOSS 2007 to the AD and building the groups directly in MOSS?  MOSS 2007 only.  Is there any functionality that is lost by building the groups in AD and adding people there rather than building groups in MOSS and adding people there?

Thanks! Patti N.

Programmatically syncing Active Directory changes with the SharePoint Site Collection

I manage a MOSS 2007 portal in Windows Server 2003, with a SQL Server 2005 backend.  We use Active Directory as the source for our SharePoint accounts.  I have written a Web Part that allows the user to edit certain fields in Active Directory, but the changes are not synched with the site collection right away.

I understand that the sync process is something like this:
1. Active Directory is updated.
2. SSP syncs with Active Directory (can force a sync from the web page, or with STSADM).
3. SSP syncs with underlying Site Collections (can force with STSADM).

This means that a user updates their information, but it is not apparent to them that the change went through, because the site collection profile is not updated. I know I can force a sync manually, but I want to do it programmatically.

What I want to do is this:  From my C# code in my Web Part, at the moment a user updates an Active Directory account, that account is synched with SSP, and then the SSP profile is updated in the site collection (I only have one site collection at the moment).  What is the code to accomplish this?

What are the trade-offs of integrating SharePoint 2007 with Oracle HR vs. Active Directory?

We had implemented SharePoint 2007 for our intranet and used AD as the system of record to authenticate our global users. We currently have content, e.g. Departments itemized within a SharePoint list, employees by department w/in a PDF, global/regional employee phone list in Excel, and org chart in PDF from Org Plus output for our US users. We have a business request to change the system of record from AD to Oracle HR for US users so that HR does not have to redundantly update Oracle HR then the SharePoint content items. Can you tell me what are the integration trade-offs, challenges, or benefits that an Oracle HR to SharePoint 2007 would entail?

Sharepoint in a Active Directory Environment

I currently work in an enterprise Active Directory that has existing sharepoint farms set up. I wish to build a sharepoint server for our IT department for document management reasons and a central repository for team ideas, faq's etc.

I am completely new to Sharepoint 2007 so this may seem like a stupid question! If i go and install Sharepoint on an individual server in a AD environment will it affect the other sharepoint servers in any way?

Synchronising the Active directory with User Profiles in sharepoint site

Automatically validate names in SharePoint list to Active Directory names

I have some employee names in a list. Since there is employee turnover, I want to be able to keep a track of which employees have left so that I can take appropriate action. Currently it is a manual process to look at each member of the list and compare it against the GAL. Is there a OOTB feature / script / workflow I can use that does a check of the employee name against the name in Active Directory to ensure if the user still exists and if the user does not exist then it send an email to me automatically.

Unable to add users into sharepoint if i am Using emails as account name in Active Directory.

I am using moss 2007 version and Active directory version 6.0.. . my AD domain is siamint so if i add a user as vikas. it gets added in AD with logon name as vikas@siamint.com now if i add a user sahil@yahoo.com into ad. it gets added as sahil@yahoo.com@siamint. now when i try to add user from peoples and groups, site settings in a sharepoint site; i gets user siamint\sahil in people picker. rather it should be siamint\sahil@yahoo.com. it means the name is truncated from @. Is this a sharepoint error or what. Ultimately i think it means we cannot add users with @ in their usernames.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

Web Service for uploading documents into SharePoint

WS UploadService is a web service written for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and is meant for uploading documents into SharePoint. I have just uploaded the zip file to GotDotNet.com so it will take some time before the zip file appears in the list of downloads. For the time being, you can download the zip file from the following location

How to set SearchRoot Path in Active Directory in this scenario

How to set SearchRoot Path in Active Directory in this scenario:

Functionality: We have scenario that 1st hit one LDAP server with some 'fixed user name' &' fixed password ' and filter data with specific User name(which given by user) getting 'User dn'.

After that we hit Next LDAP server based on the 'User dn' getting from 1st server.

(So, in my case 1st LDAP server works like as Load balancing server but functionalitywise it is different)
