Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have intellisense etc working with html 5, but is there something I am missing with getting Design Mode to correctly format HTML5 (header, nav etc).  My page has the display : block css in it and also the (for IE8) crerateElement scripts.

WPF+ VS2010: Design mode error "The URI prefix is not recognized"?

our application uses VS2008 and WPF. To apply the styles in the design mode, we have used the "BlendMergedDictionary" class (see the following link) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/995101/how-do-i-get-wysiwyg-design-in-blend-vs-without-merged-resourcedictionary-in-ever It works very well in VS2008 IDE. Now we plan to move our application to VS2010. In VS2010 Design mode (click on ~.xaml design), we get error message:  "The URI prefix is not recognized."    at System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Uri requestUri, Boolean userUriBase)    at System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Uri requestUri)    at MS.Internal.WpfWebRequestHelper.CreateRequest(Uri uri)    at System.Windows.ResourceDictionary.set_Source(Uri value) the styles does not apply at the design time. It works fine in runtime. The following are the code: public class BlendMergedDictionary : ResourceDictionary { /// <summary> /// This class the purpose is allow we reference the "themes" and "styles" in resource dictionaries in separated assemblies /// by using StaticResource. The big problem using StaticResource is that it will complaints at design time can not find the resources /// So we use this class in xaml file, if it is design time, it will load the resource dictionaries in. /// If it is not in design time, it will use the reso

Good html design software

I've been using visual studio for ages and find it quite cumbersome to produce snappy aspx pages.

I'm wondering if anyone recommends from a developers perspective a nice product to handle the graphical html generation?

VS 2008 Design Mode Hangs on Windows 2008 Server

 I have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it. It was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go. Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking! Help please, I'm getting desparate.

Can't render FormView with EntityDatasource in Design Mode

Hi Guys! I'm not sure if I'm placing this in the right spot but since it has to do with Entity Framework I put it here.  Here's the deal.  I have a FormView bound to an EntityDataSource.  The FormView is a part of a user control.  In design view on the user control, the formview and the entity datasource show up as expected.  However once I put the user control in an aspx page, the formview won't show up.  The entity datasource shows, but the formview doesn't.  Instead I get this message in design view: "There was an error rendering the control.  Value cannot be null.  Parameter name: owner"  I don't have any parameters in my datasource or formview called owner.  Is it talking about the database owner. By way of comparison, I put a SqlDatasource on the page and tied it to a formview.  It showed in design view on both the user control and the aspx page.  So that led me to believe it has something to do with the formview being bound to the entity datasource.  I am using Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation. Thanks!

Expander not showing expanded view in design mode

Advanced HTML Report Design

Aside from using Reporting Services an such - I was wondering if there were any suggestions to this logic: * ASP.NET Repeaters to generate the output of the report - sortable columns. * Use SQL Stored Procedures to generate the data. My painful hurdle right now is sorting (eventually implement throttling with SQL paging). I really don't want to do stored procedure sorting nor do I want to call the stored procedure every time I want to sort. So my solutions I've came up with so far: 1. Store a datatable in session and do sorting on it and bind it to the repeater. 2. Store the datatable as xml form in a blob field in SQL database - when the user sorts, we retrive the xml, convert to datatable, then sort, rebind repeater. 3. Insert all the report data into a "temp" (a more permenant table used just for storing output) sql table, and just perform queries off of it with sorting. - I really don't like this option. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Is it the norm out there to use reporting services? I'm wondering what everyone else is doing when it comes to web based reporting without licensing other products. Thanks in advance,Reece

My user controls stopped working in Design mode! Why?

I have a few user controls that I have been using for months but now whenever I open a page in Blend that uses one of the controls I get an invalid xaml error. The project still compiles and runs and behaves just like it's supposed to but I can't edit xaml in Design view because of this error.

In the page I have

<local:ACAVariableWidth x:Name="CIDCloseButton" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Margin="0,0,17.54,15" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Width="174" Height="89" MouseLeftButtonDown="callerID_close" Text="Close"/>

The error is: The member "Text" is not recognized or is not accessible

In the user control xaml I have:

		<StackPanel x:Name="TopSP" Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Height="76" d:IsLocked="True">
			<TextBlock x:Name="ACATB" Margin="8,8,8.5,9.5" FontFamily="APHont" FontSize="32" Padding="5,0" Foreground="White" TextAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Text="{Binding ElementName=UserControl, Path=Text}" d:IsLocked="True">

Visual Studio 2010 - Design Mode Error - "Error Creating Control"

I am using Visual Studio 2010.  I was debugging a web application and an exception happened and VS 2010 froze.  I ended the VS 2010 in the task manager and when I went back to developing, I found on every form for every ASP.net control I get:

Error Creating Control -

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Also I am unable to edit  the form or add anything from the toolbox.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

Error creating control contentplaceholder1 Visual Studio 2010 design mode

After I imported a VS 2008 web project to VS 2010, I can't view aspx pages that have master pages in design mode. The page design mode displays "error creating control - contentplacehoder1 object reference not set to an instance of an object." The project builds and runs fine though. I have only one master page that all other aspx pages reference and I don't have any nested master pages. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance.

How do I hide objects in design mode? (without using blend) Visual Studio 2010 for Silverlight

Is it possible? I tried d:isHidden="True" only works in Blend. How about design mode in Visual Studio?

Design mode is meshing all controls together

When I designed a particular page, it looked just fine and "normal" while in design mode in VWD Express 2010, but then I changed the CSS file to make the font large, and every time I go into the design mode for this page all of the text and controls are overlapping.  It makes it almost impossible to click anything, and it is just a bad visual representation of the page while in design mode.

Anybody have any idea why this may be happening?

Thanks in advance. :)

EF Binding to DataGrid at design time in VS2010

I'm playing arround with the DataGrid for wpf and EF in Visual studio 2010.
The easiest way to bind is to set the ItemsSource="{Binding} and in the Window_Loaded event MyDataGrid.DataContext = efData.SomeData
It is working fine, but I don't have data at design time.
Is there an easy way todo?

RichHtmlField showing html markup in display mode

Can somebody provide a solution to my problem? I have a RichHTMLField that I created in sharepoint designer/Visual Studios. After I got everything to work. I've tested it on several computers and it worked fine. When I tried it on my computer, my RichHtmlField in my sharepoint  shows html markup in display mode. In the edit mode, it shows perfectly fine and well formatted. When I save and publish it out, the published mode shows the actual HTML markup like you would see in WYSIWYG interface.

Any solutions?

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.
