Cascading Drop Down Problem

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I've been trying to get this to work for weeks. I am trying to use a cascading drop down to populate drop down lists. The service method is working as i'm able to view the data in the browser but when i run the application the drop down list is empty. Please see below for the service method.

    public List<Locations> GetLocation()
        SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["FixedAssetConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
        SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Select LocID, LocName from MinLocation", con);

List<Locations> loc = new List<Locations>(); try { con.Open(); SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { loc.Add(new Locations(reader["LocID"].ToString(), reader["LocName"].ToString())); } reader.Close(); } catch //(SqlException err) { throw new ApplicationException("Error"); } finally { con.Close(); } return loc; } public class Locations { public string ID; public string desc; public Locations(string loc

Problem loading data to page with cascading drop down

I have a page that has a cascading drop down.  It works perfectly when I start with an empty page and populate data to save a new row in a db table.  However, when I try to load an existing row to the page, the parent is populated, but the child and cdd are not populated.  During the load, I set the ccd.selectedvalue to a valid value, but by the time the page is rendered, there is no selection. I am sure it is something simple, but just don't see it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cascade Drop Down List Problem

I have 4 "cascade drop down linked" each other. The first one is "AccesoryFor", the second "TypeOfAccesory", the third "MarkOfAccesory" and the fourth "ModelOfAccesory".

The problem is that sometimes is possible in the web page I'm programming that a "Session Variable" could have a value that must be selected in one of that ddls. But not only that, the "ddl" or the entire "row" where the ddl is located ,must disappear. The problem is that, when the page does the rendering process, the others "cascade drop down" don't find its "control parents", so they stay disable and without data.

So, what I do in the Load Method:

 protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        if (!IsPostBack)
            Session["AccesoryFor"] = "cellphone";

 public void loadValuesToUI()
    if (Session["consultarRecursos_AccesorioDe"] != null)
            rowAccesoryFor.Visible = false;

As the row where the first DLL is located dissapears, and error occurs saying that "Control-Parents" are not found. There's no way to "Disable" or make dissapear the ddl in the web-service because

Cascading drop box holds old value if empty on auto post back

I have 3 drop boxes: 1.) Choose Operation 2.) Choose Site 3.) Choose Area. All three of them are linked to an SQL server database which has 3 tables following the same heiarchy of order. I.e. Areas belong to a Site and Sites belong to an operation. And there can only be one operation per site, or one site per area. First you select an operation, then the page auto postbacks to filter the sites. Then you pick a site and again it autopostbacks to filter the areas. The issue I am having is that when an associated operation has no sites underneight it, and therefore no areas under that, the previous values that were in the boxes are displayed and the user can't click on the boxes anymore. I think this is kind of cheap looking and would like a way to make it so the boxes are clear (i.e. nothin in them). Is there anyway to check if they are going to freeze like that and assign them blank values??Any suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciated!-Jordan

Autopostback on the last list in a Cascading drop down list series

Hi,First off I'm very new to Ajax for .NET.  I have a Cascading drop down list that is working fine to load the correct lists however I would like to have the last one initiate a query and display a datagrid on the same page containing the results of the query.  Without Ajax involved this seems rather easy by using autopostback on the drop downs.  If I could do it through Ajax that would be great but I can settle with having the page to reload to display the data.  Right now I'm not sure how to do either.  I enabled autopostback on the last drop down and wrote a method for it but I get an error at runtime saying:Invalid postback or callback argument So I'm really not sure what to do to get this to work right.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,-Jordan

Drop Down List Selected Value problem ...

I created an Html Helper that renders 3 drop down lists (Day, Month and Year) for a field of type DateTime:

    public static MvcHtmlString Date(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper, String name, IEnumerable<SelectListItem> days, IEnumerable<SelectListItem> months, IEnumerable<SelectListItem> years, IDictionary<String, Object> htmlAttributes) {

      if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(name)) throw new ArgumentNullException("name", "Name cannot be null");

      StringBuilder fields = new StringBuilder();

      if (days != null)
        fields.Append(htmlHelper.DropDownList(String.Format("{0}.Day", name), days, String.Empty, htmlAttributes));

      if (months != null)
        fields.Append(htmlHelper.DropDownList(String.Format("{0}.Month", name), months, String.Empty, htmlAttributes));

      if (years != null)
        fields.Append(htmlHelper.DropDownList(String.Format("{0}.Year", name), years, String.Empty, htmlAttributes));

      return MvcHtmlString.Create(fields.ToString());

    } // Date

And I have a DateFor extension:

    public static MvcHtmlString DateFor<TModel, TProperty>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression, IEnumerable<S

cascading drop down lists from single table

my one table consists of fields (id, flying from, flying to). thus i have one drop down for flying from and another drop down for flying to. i'm hoping to cascade them so 2nd drop down values are dependant on the values from 1st drop down. is it possible to do this using a single table? or must i use two tables and link the id's from both? and do i write anyting in the SelectedIndexChange event? thanks...

the sqldatasource code looks like this:

Flying From:

        <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlFlyingFrom" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"
            DataTextField="FlyingFrom" DataValueField="Id" AutoPostBack="True" OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddlFlyingFrom_SelectedIndexChanged">

I have 2 dropdownlists, the second (department) cascades from the first (division). I use a jquery script to update the second drop down list. When the user clicks submit, the underlying model is updated, apart from the new value for department. 2 ideas I have for fixing this are; a) Generate a postback. Prefer not to do this because of bad user experience. b) With a JQuery change event, make a call to server side and set a ViewData variable that I can use to update the field in the model later.

However there must be a better way. This is the view;

Cascading drop down

I need to create a cascading lookups in SharePoint 2010. I've used this guide - http://msdnvietnam.net/blogs/quang/archive/2010/03/30/cascading-drop-down-list-in-sharepoint-2010-using-infopath-2010.aspx.

It works very good with data from 2 or more lists but I need to create this with data only from one list(from 2 different columsn) - this scenario doesn't work for me.

1 field - dropdown with data from 1st column,

2 field - dropdown with data from 2nd column filtered by data from 1st field,

3 field - dropdown with data from 3rd column filtered by data from 1st field.

Does anyone have a solution for this scenario.

Making images available to NON-WPF applications (drag/drop) problem

Hallo: I am experimenting with drag and drop features, and in particular, with dragging images from my applications. The images are stored as BitmapImages and, when I start the drag event, I would like to fill the DataObject also with data which can be pasted also by other applications (such as, i.e. MS Word).

So, my code, for the time being, is:

BitmapeImage img;
///... some bitmapImage Initialization code...

/// Code Handling Drag event
DataObject myData = newDataObject();

myData.SetData(typeof(BitmapImage), img);

System.Drawing.Bitmap bmp = BitmapImageToBitmap(img);
myData.SetData(DataFormats.Bitmap, bmp);
myData.SetData(DataFormats.StringFormat, "Some String");

Where BitmapImageToBitmap is:

using Bitmap = System.Drawing.Bitmap;
using BitmapImage = System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BitmapImage;
using Encoder = System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BmpBitmapEncoder;
