Deferred Loading and ViewState

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I wrote a UserControl that collects data in a very ordinary way using DropDown lists and Textboxes. The only thing special about this control is that it is rendered dynamically with deferred loading. Namely, I place a service call that runs the control and returns the HTML markup for the control, that I then append to a DOM element on my page using JQuery.

The user control loads fine, but I am having ViewState problems. When I try to commit the data to the DB, I am getting an Invalid ViewState exception.

Any ideas?

Deferred Content Loading

I am having problems loading content  dynamically. The following is my situation: I created a user control that consists of common web server controls. I intend to load this control dynamically.  The gist is that I want to take the IDs of a few checkboxes on the form, pass this list of IDs to a web method and from this method load one user control per ID on the list. Everything works fine up to this point. My problems begin when I try to test events on the server controls within the dynamically-created user control. Only the events for the first user control work. The remaining N user controls fail to raise events from their web server controls. I even tried s simple JavaScript alert based on the click of a button and even that fails. Below is the code that loads the user controls. Please help me identify what I am doing wrong.   public string GetBenefitControls(string benefitIds, string contactId){ // build list of benefit IDs from input List<int> benefitIdList = new List<int>(); foreach (string item in benefitIds.Split(new string[] {"|"}, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries)) {  int benefitId;  if (int.TryParse(item, out benefitId))   benefitIdList.Add(benefitId); }  // build list of benefit objects from each id List<Benefit> benefitList = new List<Benefit>

JQGrid Loading deleted values

This is quite strange. here is the issue:

Some Info:

1. I'm using a multi-select jqgrid.

2. I have my own delete button to delete multiple orders

The problem:

When i press the delete button on the pager of my jqgrid, the records are deleted from the database but JqGrid shows some records (4-5). On refreshing the grid, correct numbers of records are shown.

Here is the code:

function delorder() {
        var amg = $("#horder").getGridParam('selarrrow');
        var cont = amg.length;
        if (amg.length > 0) {

Composite Control which contains arbitrary content defined in .aspx of parent and thier ViewState

I want to write own control which can contain other. And I want to define content of the control in the .aspx file where the control is defined. I have written such control. But now I have issue with ViewState of inner controls of my control. The following samle illustrates the issue: I defined two asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" and ID="ddl2" One of them is inside of my control and other is outside. When posback is occurred asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1 loses state and becomes empty. How to say ASP.net to store state of inner controls defined by this way?

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="MyControl.ascx.cs" Inherits="DynamicControls.Controls.MyControl" %>

EntityDataSource Where Clause in ViewState?

I have ListView/DataPager on the page that I use together with an EntityDataSource, because I want to filter the results, I programmatically set the Where-property and the WhereParameters of the EntityDataSource.

But: After the Paging-Postback the Value for Where is gone (empty string) whereas the WhereParameters are still there. Isn't the where value saved in ViewState as well? Can I change this behaviour?

Thanx, S.

Prevent loading big images ..

i need to prevent loading big images e.g max 100KB

but i only store url

1. user put url with image (i remember this string in database not image itself)

this cause that i can not check image size before store url in database

because user can store url and after this operation put bigger file at that location)

2. my web page generate some different image based on first image

and i need to load portion of image

to stream and set buffer size to 100KB + 1 Byte

if stream is larger than 100KB that user put bigger file

how can i accomplish that?

FileStream can not use URI as location only disc location

what should i use instead?

please help,

Custom controls and ViewState management issue

I want to know that when we create custom controls, then is there State Management through ViewState done automatically or we have to handle it explicitely ?Since i have created Custom Controls that is behaving as if it is not maintaining its state on PostBack.

asynchronous loading user controls

I have 3 user controls that I have to load at the same time.  They each contain a gridview that pulls data from the database.  They are doing a "delay" load of the data so there is a progress bar template that shows that the data is loading however the first gridview fires and loads, then the second, then the third and I need them to all fire at the same time.  Any ideas?

Debugger not loading properly and exiting

I am attempting to debug my Visual Studio 2005 project. I have Internet explorer 8 and it's running on IIS.

When I hit the "debug" button, a new Internet Explorer browser window opens and my ASP VB .NET application loads normally. However, Visual studio returns back to regular editting mode and I can hit the "debug" button again. No break points hit but my web page still runs and loads normally.

The Output screen use to show Web.Server(exit 0) but now it doesn't show anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been trying to find a solution for a while...

InfoPath Workflow Task Form "Loading" event handler only being called after App Pool recycled.

I have a Workflow that is using an InfoPath task form.  In the "FormEvents_Loading" method event handler I have some code that needs to run each time the form is opened.   I recycle the App Pool and open the form the code runs perfectly, but if I close and try to re-open the form the code is not run at all.  I can then recycle the App Pool again and on the next load the code executes just fine.   The code that is supposed to be run is a very simple statement to set a field value, so I don't think it is interfering.

Does anyone know what this might be?
