Using - VS 2005, SQL Server 2005 Expresss, C# WinForms App What is the difference in these two approaches of using SQL server databse?   approach 1 -> directly connect to sql server and use an available, preexisting database   approach 2 -> add a SQL Database file to ur WinForm app and connect to it Are these things right abt these alternatives?  - approach 2 means SQL Server CE database  - approach 2 will b better for deployment as databse file will reside in app folder. i m new to SQL Server. Time difference : Hosting Server and client

hi All,I have asp.net/c# web project. How to manage the time difference between the server and clientFor instance, I am at India, and Server is located at UK. So if do any activity, like "comment on friend's photo" etc. the time stamps is UK's time. So if do some activity from India at 10.00 AM, the time stamp would be 5.00 AM. So if the user who sees his activity at 10.00 AM sees it as if it was done at 5.00 AM.If user whom he acted upon (like friend whose photo got the comment) too see 5.00 AM. this is ok if the friend is at UK, but causes confusion if he was at other time location like Australiahow to handle this

SQL Server 2008, what is the difference between (for/after) definition for trigger?

Hello. The difference is not clear for me. can someone explain it more carefully pls? as said: FOR | AFTER AFTER specifies that the DML trigger is fired only when all operations specified in the triggering SQL statement have executed successfully. All referential cascade actions and constraint checks also must succeed before this trigger fires. AFTER is the default when FOR is the only keyword specified. So what is the difference between for insert and after insert?

Windows 7 socket bind behavior difference from XP/Server 2003, with reuse address socket option (WSA

I have two processes that are both listening to UDP packets and can run on the same PC.  One process binds a socket to one NIC address with port 18246.  The other process has two Socket objects, one for sending on port 18246 and one for listening on port 18246.  Both of these sockets are created, have the SO_REUSEADDR socket option set.  Bind is called for a single IP Endpoint for a common local NIC address, but a different one than used by the above app.

Under Windows XP and server 2003, both processes can bind regardless of order of startup.

Under Windows 7, if the process with only one socket starts first, the second process fails with WSAEACCES 10013 error with the second socket bind.

I wrote a sample C# app with the following method that fails when running under Windows 7 x86 and x64.  The above failure occurs when the sockets are in separate processes, but a single process using the same socket interaction also fails.  The below method is called with two IPV4 addresses that are assigned to local Network adapters on the PC.

SQL Server 2008 Express Edition: What is the difference between R2 and SP2?

Hi,

I received last week a notice about the expiration period of SQL Server 2008 R2.  I honestly got surprised considering that I installed the Express Edition.

This week, I noticed an article announcing the coming out of SQL Server 2008 SP2.  This really caught my attention.

A few questions:

1- Is R2 a release candidate version of SQL Server 2008 Express?

2- If so, how can I uninstall it from the moment SP2 is available for download.  Must I use the original setup program I used for install?

3- Actually I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition with Advanced Services.  What is the equivalent for the SP2 version.  Where can I find it for download?

Thanks for helping,

Stéphane

Difference in the trusted and non trusted connection in SQL server 2005

Dear All,

Was just looking at the SSMS log of production server, and found  there are so many records of “connection: non-trusted”, I don’t remember we had these before.

What is the difference between trusted and non-trusted connections.

Thanks,
Gangadhar

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.
