StopRuntime method and lock on instance on persistence store- How are they related

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi,

Does call to StopRuntime method on the Workflow Runtime also releases the lock hold on an instance in persistence store by this runtime.

or the instance is locked for complete duration instanceOwnershipDuration.

Thanks

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server

Hi,

I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:

<add name

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

Well, there are many post about this issues but mine is a bit different that I have this problem on my hosting which I can't configure their MS SQL Server. The only thing I can access is Plesk control panel. I have uploaded my mdf file in httpdocs/App_Data, while I establishing the connection it say..

Deadlock: Store Procedure that only contains select statement owns an update key lock

I have a seemingly simple deadlock graph that contains 2 SP's. One SP is updating a table, while another SP (the victim) is selecting from it. The interesting thing about the graph is that the SP that contains the select (and only a select) is shown to own an UPDATE lock on the table that SP2 wants to update. How is this possible?

TIA,

Kevin

a network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to sql server

Create Instance of a method??? what?

 Hello guys, I found an example that basically what it does is make an instance of a method (or so it seems that way). Is not that not that I don't understand what the code is trying to accomplish. I want to know what else can I do, or under what topic can I find more info. Searched the web and no luck:

ex.

static void Main(string[] args)
		{
			Program program = new Program();

		}
Program()
		{
			CmdClass1 cmd1 = new CmdClass1();
			CmdClass2 cmd2 = new CmdClass2();
}

Best method for creating a site definition containing a custom list instance

Hi,

I want to create a new site definition which, when provisioned, includes an instance of a custom list. The custom list definition is contained in a feature as part of the site definition project. What's the best method for creating an instance of this custom list?

I can think of a few ways to do it:

- Modify the onet.xml for my site definition to include an instance of the list

- Use feature stapling to enable my custom list defintion feature when a site is provisioned using my new site definition and include a list instance in the feature.

Is there another more suitable method?

Thanks,

Rob

Persistence / Loading from SQL store

Hi,

I'm trying to do something that I'm considering quite simple but it does not seems to work.

Basically, I need to start workflows, persist them right away and pick up it from another machine (host).

Activity:

public
class DemoActivity :

Workflow with id "xx" not found in state persistence store.

I have a state machine workflow having around 15 states. In few of the states I am using SqlWorkflowPersistenceService to persist the workflow instance into the database. Workflow is using WorkflowInstance.Unload() method to manually persist the workflow instance and UnloadOnIdle is set to false. Workflow service is hosted as WCF service on a windows service.

Problem: The states which implements SqlWorkflowPersistenceService to persist the wf instance calls another WCF service (which may take a lot of time) and then persists the instance. WCF service when finished with its processing responds the Workflow service by calling the operation contract associated with the Receive Activity in the next state of Workflow Service. Everything runs fine if the WCF service takes some time to respond the Workflow back. But sometimes it happens that WCF service has nothing to process and it responds immediately to the workflow, in this case workflow throws the error "Workflow with id “xxxxx” not found in state persistence store."

What I think here is when WCF service reponds back to the WF immidiately then WF is still busy in persisting the WF instance. WF Runtime finds no wf instance in memory and checks into the persistance database. Since WF instance is still in the process o

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

I have looked all over and tried every suggestion to resolve this issue but it persists:

I am trying to connect to an sql server on a windows 7 machine from an asp.net application.  When I am in Visual Studio I can use the connection in sqldatasource controls and everything is fine when I test the queries.  However, when I attempt to run the application I get the error.

I've tried:

1) Turning on named pipes on the database server and restarting the server.

2) Stopping all firewalls on the server.

3) Making sure that the server is configured to allow remote connections.

My connectionstring is:

Data Source=MYSERVERNAME\mssqlserver;Initial Catalog=NEMO;User ID=sa;Password=password

I have tried using portqryv2 to see whats happening on the UDP port that sql server uses as suggested in another post but gets a syntax error from the utility.

I am baffled by this one and would greatly appreciate some help.

Thanks.

Custom instance store and instance metadata changes

Hi,

we are implementing out own instance store. Besides the property InstanceData, the class SaveWorkflowCommand also contains a property called InstanceMetadataChanges. What is instance metadata and in which situations do changes to the instance metadata occur? Do we have to take care about changes in the instance metadata in our custom instance store? Right now we are storing the initial metadata changes when an instance is created, but ignore any further changes since we would probably somehow have to merge the old changes with the new changes. As far as I can see, the "PurchaseProcess" example does not not save any instance metadata. The documentation of SaveWorkflowCommand isn't relly helpful in this case either. Can anyone tell me what instance metadata is and if we have to take care of changes to instance metadata in our custom InstanceStore?

Thanks,

David
