Pagination and Data buffering in Windows Application using C# 2005

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

.NET Windows application using C# interacts with Oracle DB for retrieving and saving data

With huge volume of data, the performance is slow and the memory usage is high, the application displays the entire data in the screen. Response time is high due to database call and client side data processing

Proposed Solution
Using pagination (from Oracle DB) to display partial data in the screen, response time of the application will be faster; however, it will make DB calls for each page. We are looking at a solution to get the 1st page data from DB and start the application, after which there will be a background job to get the rest of the data from DB to a local XML DB. So, in case of next page, the data will be loaded from XML instead of making a DB call.

Is this design possible?
Is synchronization possible between local XML DB and the Oracle DB?

Using WCF unable to transfer bulk data in windows base application

Hi, I am testing bulk data transfer over WCF service and my project structure is as follows. Project Structure: 1> One Console application that have the WCF service reside of it. 2> One Class library that contain the interface and a class file that implement the interface. 3> Another Windows Application type project act as a client interface that call the service using proxy. Now the scenario I have is as follows: 1> Inside of the console application their is a module that have the (following server side code) .This service is hosted in the Console app programmatically (No config file). Server Code: Dim x As New NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.None)         With x             .TransactionFlow = False             .TransferMode = TransferMode.Streamed             .MaxReceivedMessageSize = Integer.MaxValue             .CloseTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)             .OpenTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)             .ReceiveTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)       &n

How to upload files to remote machine using FTP or other method in VB.Net 2005 (Windows Application)

I have to create an application to upload and download files using FTP.
Are there any classes, methods in VB.Net 2005(Windows Application) to do this?

I have created a small GUI for this.

It contains 4 text boxes - Path of Local file to be uploaded, IP address of remote machine, User name and password of remote machine At last there is one Transfer button when I click on this transfer button that file should get copied to the remote machine.

I tried this using FTPWebRequest class by reading example in msdn.

But to connect to remote machine it requires URI format of FTP and I only have IP address of that remote machine. I think there is no web server on that remote machine.

Should I need to install web server on that remote machine.

Or is there any other method to do upload files to remote machine ?

SQL Server 2005 random login failures for windows forms application

One of our VS .NET 2008 windows forms applications runs from multiple client machines. The application randomly has login failures from random machines and from random places in the code. The login works almost every time but about once every fifteen minutes an error shows up in SQL Server error logs from a random user. We are running a clustered SQL Server 2005 system and the database is in 2005 (90) mode.

The following error appears in the SQL Server error logs:

Login failed for 'App_Login'. [CLIENT: XXX.XXX.X.XXX] Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.

The following error is what the client sees:

Data structure to automatically sync data between windows application and Microsoft SQL Server

I dont know whether I am posting this question in the right forum, please move it if needed. I have a windows application that shows data from a SQL table. I cannot use DataGridView in the application, I have a custom form to display the data. I need a datastructure to hold the table data and I display it using my custom windows form. Which data structure should I use to automatically sync data between windows application and SQL Server? I don't want to manually write Update queries. Any help would be appreciated.

How to make my vs.net 2005 built application run on 64bit windows server?

I have a problem with my application, i can't make it run in a 64 bit windows server 2003. My App use to communicate to a finger print scanner device which listens to device events and automatically transfers device logs to a database.

This app use to run smoothly in a 32bit windows (my development env is xp sp2 using vs.net 2005 and .net 2.0 framework). But when i tried to install it on a 64 environment everything went wrong. The app returns a CLSID exception in which it can't find the specified reference.

I have already encountered and fixed this exception in a 32bit windows environment but it really freaks me out seeing my app stucked in a 64bit environment.

Any ideas on how I can fix my problem is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance..

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Application Architecture in Windows Forms 2.0

Applications have special support in Windows Forms. For starters, you can manage and tailor your application's lifetime, and, when the work flow is disrupted by an unhandled exception, you can choose from several methods of response. Then, there are several application models that you can employ, including Single Document Interface (SDI) and Multiple Document Interface (MDI) applications, each of which can support either multiple-instance or single-instance mode, the former the VS05 default and the latter requiring special consideration. All applications, however, can discover and use a wide variety of information about the system and environment they execute in.

Application Architecture in Windows Forms 2.0-Single-MDI Applications

Consider an MDI application like Microsoft Excel; files opened from the file system (by double-clicking) are all opened as separate child windows within the parent Excel window.7 For the first instance of an MDI application to open a new child window to display the file that was passed to the second instance of the application, the second instance must be able to communicate with the initial instance.

Creating a Smartphone Application and Using Data from SQL Mobile

In this exercise, you will use Visual Studio 2005 to create a Smartphone application. You will associate commands with a mobile device's soft keys, and you will add the ability to scroll through the list of available products (a list of images). You will create a data source for an existing SQL Mobile database, and then test the application in the Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator.

In the following procedure, you will create a new Windows Mobile 5.0 project in Visual Studio.

all basic windows controls, wpf controls, silverlight application

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

Hi all,

I was rummaging the internet learning aspx and came across the concept of: Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

It seems great of course. The articles are all early 2003-5 such as

So the question is - is this tech still relevant and should I be using it?
