Deploying custom 2007 site definition to 2010

For a customer I am upgrading their SharePoint 2007 enviroment to SharePoint 2010. After a succesfull upgrade I am stuck with one last annoying problem: when creating a publishing site collection using a custom definition the provisioning of the site definition  fails. Interesting about this is that the provisioning works from the central admin UI, but this customer has an custom webpart for creating site collections in a web application outside of Central administration. The simplified code for this is: public static bool Create(SPWebApplication webApp, string Url, string siteTitle, string siteDescription, uint lcid, string siteTemplate, string ownerLogin, string ownerName, string ownerEmail)         { SPSite site = null; try { SPSite newSiteCollection = webApp.Sites.Add(Url, siteTitle, siteDescription, lcid, siteTemplate, ownerLogin, ownerName, ownerEmail); newSiteCollection.Close(); newSiteCollection.Dispose(); site = GetRootSite(webApp); bool r = (site != null) ? true : false; return r; } catch { return false; } finally { if (site != null) site.Dispose(); }         } The exception is thrown when webApp.Sites.Add() is executed. The user we are logged in as, as wel the appID, are Farm Admin's. The ULS shows this exception: Exception thrown while fetching field by internal name 'Wiki_x0020_Page_x0020

Reg: Does Custom site definition created in SharePoint 2007 works in Sharepoint 2010

All,

If one has created a custom site definition in sharepoint 2007, Once the whole site is migrated to sharePoint 2010 will that "custom site definition" created in 2007 will work without breaking in SharePoint 2010?

If No, what has to be done to make it work on 2010.

Thanks,

Srini

Migrating Site Definition from SP 2007 to SP 2010

I am trying to migrate 2007 site definitoin into sharepoint 2010 and for that i am creating a new "site defintion" project in visual studio. my site definition has some listtemplates defined in the onet.xml which requires that the schema.xml and other artifacts be defined in a "lists" folder inside my site definition's lists folder.

Now, if i want to add lists folder, do i need to add the folder direcly by going to "add > new folder" or visual studio provides some item type for that? by itemtype i mean something similar to "site definition" type in visual studio.

Any pointers will be appreciated!

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Best Way to Convert MOSS 2007 Site Templates to SharePoint 2010 Templates

Ok, I just treid to do something that I didn't really think would work, but now that I've seen it fail, I get to ask the question. Is there a best practice on converting site templates built for MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. We have several projects that used the Visual Studio Extensions (v1.3) and the SharePoint Solution Generator to build custom site templates and the .wsp packages. I can add and deploy the solution packages using the STSADM tool, but when I try to create a sub-site based on that template, I get an Object Not Set to an Oject Reference Error. In case anyone is wondering, it works fine in MOSS 2007. I have not tried Visual Studio 2010 yet (it's downloading in the background). I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this and what they did to fix it. TIA, John.

How to upgrade MOSS 2007 custom site definitions to SharePoint 2010?

I would like to know how to upgrade custom site definitions of MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010 in detail?

Visual Studio 2010 will not open my MOSS 2007 Site

I am using VS 2010 premium, Win Server 2008 R2, MOSS 2007 and are all installed on the same machine.

First, I when I try to connect with the server explorer...I get A SharePoint server is not installed on this computer which is not true.

Second, When I try to open a website through > open website > local IIS and click on my sharepoint portal site I get.....Unable to open website, Visual Web Dveloper does not support opening sharepoint sites. Why am I getting this? I am not using Visual web Devloper. I am using VS 2010 premium.

Why is it so hard to open adn/or connect to our sharepoint sites with VS 2010? I have no problem at all using Sharepoint designer to connect but I want to use visual stuidio.  I hate the designer. I think microsoft dropped the ball on this one.    Anybody know of a good article/tutorial on this?

Problem with InfoPath 2007 Form opened with InfoPath 2010 - whole number integer not coming into dat

I found an issue when testing existing InfoPath 2007 forms via the Infopath 2010 Designer client.  Integer fields in the form template are publishing to a SharePoint Forms Library and show in the default view.  However, if that library is then used as a Data Connection in another or same form template those integer fields are not displaying or available for selection.

This is not a problem using the InfoPath 2007 client.  It is not an option to convert the field to text as it could affect existing forms in existing libraries.  Also, existing integer fields are no longer appearing in previously defined SharePoint-based secondary data connections.  Only the ID field still appears.  But, those existing fields still work in the form and are selectable for functions, etc.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks much!  Mike - www.ProgramNetInc.com

Moving a site from 2007 to 2010

Hi, I wonder what's the best way of moving a site from 2007 to SharePoint 2010.

- Backup / restore

- Import / export

- Site template

Have you tried any of these options?. Does any of them actually work?. Is any of them "supported"?

move the site from 2007 to 2010

Hi,

I have to move one site collection from 2007 to 2010, is backup the database for that site and restore it on SharePoint 2010 enviornment is best way if so how to do that specific site.

After SharePoint 2007 upgrade to SharePoint 2010 issue with custom site(s)

With our 2007 site(s) we had a custom module (we developed) to swap out the application.master with our own master page which resembled the site default.master.  This worked great.

After the upgrade, out site's main pages looked fine however when navigating to the admin type pages (settings/viewlists etc.) pages the module stopped working.

1.) I have figured out something things with respect to what is going on but am still at a loss to how best resolve.  We want the layouts/admin pages to have the same master page as the main user pages.   I have read in 2010 this is now possible.  How can I achieve this?

2.) Currently, when navigating to the sites/settings page the site is using template/layouts/layoutsv3.master as the master page.  The settings.aspx page has DynamicMasterPageFile="~masterurl/default.master" .  It was my understanding that when DynamicMasterPageFile was set to default.master it would use the master page from the site.  So, with that said I am confused why it is using layoutsv3.master

any help would be appreciated
