Changes not reflecting in Data Form Web Part

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi All,

The problem I am facing is as follows:

I have a DataFormWebPart used to DISPLAY data from a list (call it List A) which was created in MOSS 2007. This web part was later migrated to SharePoint Server 2010.

The Web Part works fine. The problem arises when trying to modify the web part. I followed the following steps:

1. I exported the .webpart file of the webpart from the Web Part gallery.
2. I made changes to the XSL template of the web part.
3. Uploaded the template back to the web part gallery.
4. Added the webpart to the page.

However whatever changes I made are not reflected. I tried openning the page in sharepoint designer and I can see my changes in the HTML code of the page. Then I tried a View Source of the page and the changes are not there.

Seems very confusing. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Huzefa Mala.

Data form web part not displaying - Unable to display this Web Part. ....

Hi,

I am designing a data form - adding some formatting etc.  I am able to see the webpart correctly in SPD split view, but when I trying to preview it, it gives me the following error

Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.
ANy help would be welcome, I have spent a lot of time on this page and don't want to do it again.  THere are a lot of fields and it's a tedious process to move them to the correct location.  I am at my wits end, I am not sure how to debug this!!
Thanks,

Unable to Show Edit item Links in Data Form Web Part

I have a DFWP connected to custom list and the boxes to Show Edit Item Links, Show Delete item links and Show Insert Item links are grayed out so that they can not be checked. This works fine when I use a DFWP connected to a standard list (i.e., Contacts). Is there something special that needs to be done to activate this functionality?ThanksDean

AJAX, Data Form Web Part, and Paging

I've placed a Data Form Web Part into an Update Panel, and it works great.  This particular use of the web part requires Single Item mode with paging.  My problem is that the "Previous" button for paging calls a javascript function for "history.back()".  Well, the only history to go back to since I am using AJAX around the web part is whatever page (if any) that the user was on before navigating to the page with the AJAX functionality.  It does not go to the previous list item.I've copied the function from the "Next" button, and created my own xslt variables to pass into it for the previous item:<xsl:value-of select="ddwrt:GenFireServerEvent(concat('dvt_firstrow={',$PreviousRow,'};dvt_startposition={',$PreviousPageData,'}'))" />This works fine UNLESS items are deleted from the List that is providing that data to the Web Part. Then my idea doesn't work because it is trying to look for ID numbers that do not exist in the list anymore.  Does anyone know of a way, or a built in variable from the ddwrt namespace, that will pass the previous list item to the "Previous" button no matter if there are deleted items (missing ID numbers) in the providing list? I would greatly appreciate some help.Thanks. Jason A. Graham http://jasonAgraham.spaces.live.com

Data form web part issue with pagination

I have a data form web part which I put inside a user control. I have an issue with the default pagination. Clicking the previous button on the pagination causes a "Webpage is expired" error. I've tried copying the code from the next button but it doesn't work and I've also tried caching my pages still nothing. I read somewhere here that someone was able to implement the previous button pagination from code behind but he still hasn't replied to my question. Does anyone else know how to implement this from code behind? Really need help with this.

Custom List Form web part connection to data view

Hi

We have a sharpoint site to manage "projects".    That site includes a document library.  The documents uploaded to the library are categorised based on the project they belong to.

We are trying to implement a custom list form for editing a project record that does one of the following:

1. When the edit form is loaded for a particular projects record that edit form also shows a list of relevant documents.

or

2. Include a button or link on the edit form to another page that lists only the documents for the current project.

We thought this would be easy to do using web part connections.  If we click on the custom list form it gives us the option to setup a web part connection.  However, if you follow this wizard through and get to the stage of selecting columns to link, there are no columns listed for either the custom list form or for the target dataview.  This is the case whether the target data view is on the same page, ie in case of option 1 or on a different page as in case of option 2.

Could someone advise us how we could either get the web part connections between the custom list form and other dataviews to work or how we could hyperlink to a dataview and pass the id of the record currently being edited to that dataview as a filter?

We are using Sharepoint Designer so would appreciate any suggestions base

How to set or assign a Workflow Variable from data entered in a Form Web Part

Greetings -

I have a Form Web Part wherby the user enters a number

That number is sent to a subsequent Data View WebPart that uses the number to pull data from another source via a Web Service.

This all works fine. BUT

I'd also like for that number entered into the Form Web Part to be set as a Variable to be used until a new number is entered into the Form Web Part when the variable will be changed accordingly.

I need the newly set variable to be later used for filtering out data in other lists and views.

I also need the variable to automatically set a field in any newly created list item.

Gurus, please help.

Data Form Web Part - Sharepoint Dropdown List as a field in Edit View - Possible?

Hi guys,

I'm building a Sharepoint page with a data form web part that uses custom SELECT and UPDATE statements with an SQL Server connection in order to retrieve and store records of information.

I'm getting along fine, records seem to update how they should etc, but I've ran into a problem with one thing: Sharepoint dropdownlists in 'Edit Template'

So the issue is this: if I replace a textbox field with a dropdown list that is populated with a separate SQL datasource, the dropdown list seems to be unable to show the current value of the field.

E.g. I have a dataview which has a field "FruitID", which I can update just fine by setting the ID value to different numbers. The SQL datasource uses the FruitID to display a list of all available Fruits, (e.g. 1 = Banana, 2 = Apple, 3 = Cherry, etc).

If i open the dataview in editmode, the default value in the dropdown is null, despite the real value of the field being "2", which should show "Apple" in the dropdown.

I can select a fruit and click save, and it will update just fine. But the initial display needs to show the correct value to start with.

Is there a custom binding I should be coding to make this work? I can't configure dropdown <items> on an individual level as they are populated from the SQL server. I can't set "SelectedI

Data Points: The Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block, Part 3

E nterprise applications can have a wide variety of data update requirements. Sometimes you need to save multiple rows of changes at once within a single transaction. Other times, the user must be allowed to enter multiple rows of data, send them to the database in a batch; and if a row or two fails, only the rows that succeeded should be committed and remain committed.

A solid data access later (DAL) can benefit an application by hiding redundant tasks, helping handle exceptions more gracefully, helping clean up resources more efficiently, and providing a layer of abstraction from the database.

Data Points: Handling Data Concurrency Using ADO.NET, Part 2

Enterprise development has been moving towards a discon-nected model in recent years and ADO. NET development is no exception. While the disconnected model of the ADO. NET DataSet offers great flexibility, that adaptability also means looser control over data updates than you get with a connected data access model.

Data Points: Migrating from ADO to ADO.NET, Part 2

As you move forward with your use of ADO. NET, you'll need to know how to approach situations that you previously learned to handle in ADO and now have to tackle with ADO. NET. Just as n-tiered solutions developed using Visual Basic®, C++, and ASP often rely on ADO for their data access needs, Windows® Forms, Web Forms, and Web services rely on ADO.
