Performancepoint for existing management report

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm setting up BI infrastructure for my company.  At the moment, this consists of a data warehouse, SSAS cubes and dashboards with KPI indicators.  This is all going well.

Before this was available, every quarter, staff would produce a word document with graphs (comparing stats they had calculated with KPIs - essentially what is in the dashboards) and commentary in, and send it to management for comment/approval.  I am trying to map this process to what I can do in sharepoint/performancepoint - specifically the commentary on the various measures, but am not very clear how to go about it.

I had imagined producing a basic infopath form/workflow to prompt users to submit commentary each month/quarter, and then producing some sort of view which presented the commentary and the relevant graph on one page, for management to look up.  By changing a date filter, the month range of the graph and the comments shown would change, essentially allowing viewing of different quarters' reports.

To what extent can I use components of the dashboard in other pages, as a webpart?  Is there anything out of the box in sharepoint/performancepoint that might help with this?

Report Builder 3.0 issue - can view existing rdl files but cannot create new reports

I have Report Builder 3.0 deployed on my local machine pointing to a remote SQL Server 2008 R2 instance outside of my local domain.  Within this local Report Builder 3.0 instance I am able to open up previously created rdl files from the remote SQL Server 2008 R2 instance that I am connecting to.  However, if I try to create a new report on my local instance of Report Builder 3.0 and attempt to use the same data source as was used to create these existing rdl files, I receive the error: "Unable to connect to data source. The user credentials provided in the connection string do not have permission to connect to Reporting Services."  So why can I open existing rdl files from this remote SQL Server 2008 R2 instance, but not create new ones even though I'm using the same data source as the existing rdl files?  Thanks, Mark

Exporting a PerformancePoint Excel Services Report to Excel

Have an Excel services PivotTable in a PPS 2010 dashboard.  When the user selects the "Export to Excel" option they receive this error.

I do not see any options in the webpart to show the old toolbar that used to show up in the Excel Services views.  (It had an option to open the pivottable in Excel or export a "snapshot" to Excel)

How do users export Excel Services reports to Excel?

The selected view does not support an export to the selected format.

Change report in VS & deploy.....does NOT overwrite existing report in report manager

I have made some changes to most of my reports that have been previously deployed to report server.  I deploy the changed reports from VS and deployment is successful.  When I run report manager on the server to which they've been deployed, I get the old report.  I have to delete the existing in report manager and redeploy from VS in order to get the updated report in report manager.  This doesn't seem right.

Am I doing something wrong???

By the way...this doesn't happen all the time.......

Export Reporting Services Report from PerformancePoint Bug?

I believe I've found a bug in the PerformancePoint web part--has anyone else run into this?  Here's the scenario:

1. An SSRS report against SSAS, from a Reporting Services Integrated mode (2008R2) instance, having two parameters (the # of parameters doesn't matter, and the same behavior below was observed when an older SSRS2005 Report Manger mode instance was used for reports as well)

2. A new Report object is created in PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer, and the report links are added

3. The Report is added to a PerformancePoint dashboard using Dashboard Designer

4. The Report is has paramters that match the report, and the filters are connected to the report

5. After the report is published, it behaves as expected--renders fine and the filters work fine

6. When the report is exported to Excel using the command on the PerformancePoint web part's drop-down menu, the report ALWAYS renders with the data that would be correct if *no* parameters were passed in by the PerformancePoint filters.  So, for example, the report always displays numbers for "ALL", even after the filter is changed to "North America".

#1 - #5 are all as expected.  #6 is unexpected, and appears to be a bug.  Step #6 in SharePoint 2007 with PerformancePoint worked fine--it only a

How to create a report for In Place Records Management

I had a question on in place records management.  Is there a way to create a report to show all content that has been declared a record using in place records management?  I assume that the report would look at all content declared regardless of location of site.

cannot find PivotTable report tempalte in PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer

I want to create PivotTable report in PerformancePoint Dashboard designer, as I checked in the link http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/performancepoint-server/create-a-pivottable-report-by-using-performancepoint-dashboard-designer-HA010257416.aspx ,I should be able to do the following step:

{In Dashboard Designer, click the Create tab, and then click Other Reports. ClickPivotTable, and then click OK. The Create a PivotTable Report wizard opens.}

But I am not able to find PivotTable in 'Other Reports' in Create tab, could you please tell me is there any prerequisite need to be done before I start the above step?

existing Values of a Measure not usable if other than the highest level of report-range-parameter is

I´m working on some new reports with SSRS 2008. Until yesterday I was making good progress. Then SSRS stopped behaving sensible...

I´ve got a measure "Share_EA_completed" which bases on another measure "EAs" and contains the share of completed EAs of the total of EAs. That measure works fine, if I select "All" in the report-parameter. If other levels (such as "Region xy" or "Team 37 of Region xy") are selected, the formula

=FormatPercent(Aggregate(Fields!Share_EA_completed.Value) -

gives back "0,00%", which is totally nonsense because if I run the Query of that Dataset in the query designer, I can see, that there are values for each team, and each region.

Does anybody know, how the bloody h... this is possible? I tried everything (publishing the calculated measure again, starting Visual Studio again, rerunning the query etc) but nothing works. Does anybody have an idea?

As always your help would be much appreciated!

PerformancePoint 2010 - Denied Access to Existing Data Source

We have SharePoint 2010 farm using Kerberos for authentication that works fine for almost all scenarios, except this last issue we see with PerformancePoint and the Dashboard Designer.

When our Data Connections library is empty I can start the Dashboard Designer and create a New Data Source. Clicking on Save the data source is saved in the correct location (default PPS library).

However, once I do an action that requires the Dashboard Designer to read the list of data sources from this library I get an access issue. This could be by trying to create a report using the saved data source or by closing the Dashboard Designer and opening it again to create a data source.

This error is logged in the ULS log and Event Viewer:

The user "domain\loginname" attempted to access an item in the following location: http://sp-server/PWA/ProjectBICenter/Data Connections for PerformancePoint

Report throwing error in on new WSS Site created from backup of existing WSS Site.

We are using wss 3.0 and SSRS 2008.

We have taken a backup of WSS site and Report server DB from server1 and restorted the same on server2.

But when we are trying to access the report on this new server(Server 2) then we are facing this error -

The item 'http://server2:12121/sites/aaram/reports/Report Library/Administrator/ReportName.rdl' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound).

When we redeploy the report the issue gets resolved. But this does not seem like a good solution as its not feasible to redeploy all the reports again.

Can someone please suggest a solution for this issue?

Alternating row background for first column of a report

is there a way to make the first column of a report use the an alternating background color?

I have the background color set for the entire row however it does not work for the first column if the color is set to an expression.  If I just set it to a color i.e. red it works just fine. If I insert a dummy column to the left it works just fine (but the dummy column does not work, presumably because it is first??).

In the file below only the textbox for part number does not show an alternating background.  All others work correctly.

URL Routing and Existing HttpHandler problems

Hello everyone,

I have a problem:

I am currently using 2 features:

1. HttpHandler

Registering the path="res.aspx" verb="*"

2. URL Routing:

Registering with this pattern: "Company/Edit/{*companyId}","~/CompanyEdit.aspx"

In my CompanyEdit.aspx page, I used httphandler res.aspx to generate some images at client.

  • res.aspx?img=1
  • res.aspx?img=3

Now the problem is here, the page is load success with companyId = "12345", but when the images was loaded at client, it loaded the CompanyEdit.aspx again and show error with wrong id.

I have debug and find the problem that because when image's urls were generated to client with url=res.aspx?img=1, url=res.aspx?img=3, the asp.net will understand that they are Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=1, Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=3 when it maps with URL Routing pattern.

=> So the CompanyEdit.aspx was load again with wrong id (id now is "res.aspx").

So, do you have any ideas to solve this problem, or other design.

Thanks, and best regard
