parsing tab delimited spanish characters file

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.

another spanish character issue:  I am parsing special spanish characters, removing the tildes (EX:  "ñ" becomes "n") that customers send us in files, in tab delimited files that is.

When the characters are valid spanish characters (like "ñ") then this is not an issue, however some of the files that we get have characters such as:

"Ni±o"

Which should actually be:

"Niño"

Has anyone seen this and know any solution?  The "ñ" is fine but I am not certain what to do about the "±".

this is only one example, other spanish characters are listed as a question mark "?" so this is causing some issues.

thanks

Event not raised while parsing xml file

 Hello

In Visual Studio 2010 ASP.NET 4.0

I want to write a procedure to validate a xml file with a xsd. I found some examples on the web but the one i chose does not work as attended. The example uses XmlReader with a XmlReaderSettings and a ValidationEventHandler.

Here is the code

Protected Sub VerifyDes(ByVal filename As String)

Dim xslDes As XmlReaderSettings = New XmlReaderSettings()
        xslDes.Schemas.Add("", "http://www.mysite.com/xsd/ValidData.xml")
        xslDes.ValidationType = ValidationType.Schema
        xslDes.ValidationFlags = XmlSchemaValidationFlags.ReportValidationWarnings

        AddHandler xslDes.ValidationEventHandler, AddressOf xslDesValidationEventHandler

Dim des As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(filename, xslDes)

        While (des.Read())

        End While

    End Sub

Protected Sub xslDesValidationEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ValidationEventArgs)

        'some code here
    End Sub

I tested this procedure with a xml file which was well formed but contained some elements which were not conform to the xsd.

No event or error occured. It said the file was valid.

Then i tested with a badly formed file. A XmlException was raised but nothing happened with the ValidationEventHandler.

It seems lik

Using Editor to support Spanish characters?

I recently switched from freetextbox to the built in Ajax editor because of issues ftb had with update panels.  The Ajax editor works great except for one problem, it messes up my spanish characters.  For instance, it will replace ñ with ? and post the ? to my database.  Is there anyway to not make it do this and leave it as the actual ñ ?  if the same characters is placed in a standard textbox it will submit with no problem.

Thanks for your time!

Hi I never used linq before and i'm having trouble parsing the xml file at  http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=" + strCityName.ToString(); I used to use a dataset but since trying to change my site to mvc, i thought i would use linq to xml, but after 2 days have still not found success. i have a class called: public class WeatherCityBLLModel { public string loc { get; set; } public string loc_id { get; set; } } and then a class called public class WeatherCityDALModel { public static List<WeatherCityBLLModel> GetLocation(string strCityName) { XDocument doc = XDocument.Load("http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=" + strCityName.ToString()) return doc; <<< Does not work } } How do i get the data from xoap.weather and pass it to my controller Any help appreciatedGeorge

How to save form data to delimited file?

How do you specify special characters as flat file delimiters?

I have a flat file that has fields delimited by tilde {~} and rows delimited by {CR}{LF}.  The problem is, my source is spitting out the {NULL} (&H00) at the end of the row. The data displays correctly in the pre-viewer (with a non-print symbol at the end of the last field), but gives an error when I try to run the package. Example: "data"~"data"~"data"{NULL}{CR}{LF} I can process the row in c# using: "\0\r\n" as the row delimiter.   What is the equivalent notation for SSIS?   Thanks,

Drag drop functinality not working on Explore View control for file containing special characters in

We have created a control which uses explorer view control for file drag and drop. This functinality works fine for a file having filename without special characters but it gives an error if we drag and drop a file having special characters in the file name. The reason for this is Sharepoint uses WebDAV protocol for file transfer to the Sharepoint document library and WebDAV protocol has limitation that it does'nt accept file with special characters. Please let me know the way how I can accomplish drag and drop of file with special characters in file name, onto Explorer View control with WebDAV.

The host application  throws a error " error: parsing "D0" as ui1 datatype ". I have tried to send deviceStatus value in decimal format as well but host application is not resposding correctly. If the hex value does not contain any alphabet then host application respond perfectly fine but if hex value contain any alphbet then host application throws error " error parsing "D0" as ui1 datatype" Can any one please tell me how to convert hexvalue(with alphabet) to Ui1 data types Thanks In advance Ravish Kumar

Strange characters exporting a blob file using bcp

Hi, I am trying to insert and export a binary file into SQL 2005. I need that word, pdf and txt file work. I can't use file path and this is the only choice I have. I am using this way: 1) Create a file test.txt and write "hello" into it. 2) CREATE TABLE [dbo].[myfiles]( [file] [varbinary](max) NOT NULL) ON Primary 3) INSERT INTO [myfiles]([file]) SELECT BulkColumn FROM OPENROWSET ( BULK 'C:\test.txt', SINGLE_BLOB) AS BinFile 4) declare @SQLcommand nvarchar(4000) set @SQLcommand =       'bcp "SELECT top 1 [file] FROM myfiles" queryout "c: \temp\test.txt" -T -n -SMYPC' exec xp_cmdshell @SQLcommand When I open file c:\temp\test.txt I can see strange characters before "hello" Trying to insert a word file says me that the file is corrupted. How can I solve this ? Thanks.

Parsing flat files or tab delimited files.csv with Visual Studio and or Biz Talk Server.

Hello msdn community, I need help with finding the proper Microsoft application that will allow me to parse a .csv  flat file / tab delimited file for its text, The data will be queried client side dynamically populated to my web page form with Visual Studio 2008.  I have read that a MS Biztalk Server will perform a similar function, I am still checking on this. Has anyone in the community had experience with flat file parsing with Microsoft software and or hardware? Any and all help will be appreciated in helping me resolve this issue because I am not well versed with the Microsoft products. Spidaweb Web Designer /Webmaster Virtual Web Dev, LLC.

Ignore trailer record in delimited file

SSIS 2008 I receive flat data files from a vendor that are pipe delimited however there is a header row and a trailer row that is not pipe delimited.  The first row is easily bypassed however SSIS rightfully complains about the last row;  “There is a partial row at the end of the file”  Short of having a separate process to strip the trailer record is there a way for SSIS to ignore this row?  Currently I am using a simple data flow with a flat file source and a OLE DB destination (database) with the usual column mapping. I can ascertain the data rows from the trailer row by the first character.  Data rows start with ‘D’ and the trailer row starts with ‘T’.     Thanks for any help! RJ

unable to unzip XML file with unicode characters in it's name.

Finally I did manage to build an application that supports unicode characters..

Now my application generates a zip file which contains an XML file. I want to unzip the zip file to view the contents of an XML file.

i am unable to unzip because the name of the zip file/as well as XMl file has Unicode characters(i.e. japanese Name) and it gives some error.

If i generate the XML file  with same contents but name of the files in English then i can view the contents of the XML file.

My query is i want to be able to unzip the XML file when the name of the file contains unicode characters in it.

as per my research up till now,  we either require a compatible winzip software or we have to create an utility for the same.

I need to know how to go about it. It's a little urgent as well.

Thnx in advance.

Non Delimited Header in a delimited output file

I have a requirement to make a delimited flat file from a data base table.  The table has some 20+ columns.   I totally understand how to accomplish this part.  What is a bit more  tricky is that I need to create a header row that is not delimited.  The final output would look something like this

$header –Opt1 –Opt2 20101005

DBCol1|dbCol2|DbCol3
