web.config connection string problem within VisualStudio 2010 to point to SQL Server 2008 R2 Develop

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

Connection string to connect with Sql Server 2008.

Hi,

May  be it's a wrong place to ask the following question. Sorry for that. Our hosting provider has recently upgraded their database server from Sql Server 2005 to 2008 and I'm getting errors to connect with remote server from my development machine. Error Message "Invalid connection". Tried to find solution on net but couldn't find it.

I'm using .Net 1.1. Though we've updated versions 2.0,3.5 & 4.0 but due to some certain circumstances I've no way to update it. It's a web based project. The following connection string works fine for Sql Server 2000 & 2005 but not for 2008.

<add key="ConnectionString" value="Data Source=Remote Server's domain name;Initial Catalog=database name;User ID=user name;Password=surround;Persist Security Info=True;Pooling=false;Connect Timeout=45;" />

Here

Remote Server's domain name indicates to remote db server like: test.mysite4now.com

database name for example: test_surround

user name like test_surround

password: surround.

Can anyone inform me what's wrong with the above connection string to connect to Sql Server 2008.

Regards,

Esonix

Provider: sql network interfaces, error 26 - error locating server / instance specified.

All is on my home PC running XP Home Edition.

Thanks.

Modifying connection String in Web config using Install Wizard

Hey,

Im trying to create a Web Deployment Project, the built in setup and deployment is very good in Visual Studio, i need to able to add an additional step in the setup to change the connection string in the Web config file. Ive seen a lot of articles on how to do this and in particular this http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/15/tip-trick-creating-packaged-asp-net-setup-programs-with-vs-2005.aspx#7162670 I am however stuck on the final part of this tutorial, im using the code Scott provided but have two errors,  heres part of my code where the errors are

using System.Configuration;
using System.Configuration.Install;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.IO;
using System.DirectoryServices;

 void ConfigureDatabase(string targetSite, string targetVDir, string connectionString)
        {
            // Retrieve "Friendly Site Name" from IIS for TargetSite
            DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("IIS://LocalHost/" + targetSit

Problem opening dotnet 1.1 projet on 2008 web server

 We recently upgraded to a 2008 development web server and I installed all the stuff to get dot net 1.1 app working on the server.  I can host them and they work.  My problem is that when I try to open one in VS 2003 I get the following error.  I set up the web server the same as my previous one, and I think a long time  ago I got this error when we set up current one but do not remember how to resolve it.  So I moved my project files from the old server to the new server and then I get these errors.

The web Server reported the following error when attempting to create or open the Web Project located at the following url: Http://localhost:/MobTracker. 'Http/1.1 500 server error

Problem adding .NET 3.5.1 feature on Server 2008 R2

Having an issue with a 2008 R2 64-bit Server becoming unresponsive/locking up when trying to activate the .NET 3.5.1 feature.  Did not have any previous version of .NET installed but ran the .NET Cleanup utility and completed successfully but still have same issue.  It installed .NET 4 via the Microsoft Updates OK but still hangs part way through the 3.5.1 install via the Server Manager/Add Features.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Connection to SQL server 2008 fails randomly

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this error: "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server" Normally I would assume that this would mean that there's a problem connecting to the SQL server, but currently I'm having a hard time figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it The problem only occours randomly, but mostly it is when I from the same computer calls the server several times for example like this: For i as integer = 0 to 500 OpenConnectionToSqlServer(Bla bla) ReadData() CloseConnection() next I always makes sure to close the connection again. The more often I connect to SQL server in a row, the higher is the percentage of errors I have created my code so that if the above error happens, the program will wait for a second, then try again (after 3rd try it will stop trying)   I have several times been monitoring the SQL server at the same time, but I can't seem to see anything from there :(

Problem connecting to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express from Access 2007

I have a problem with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with MS Access 2007. I am running Windows 7 with 8 gigs memory. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Do I now need to install SP1 because I am running with Windows 7? I can open SQL Server using the Management Screen but I cannot connect to MS Access 2007 using SQL Server Express as the database. When trying to connect to SQL Server from Access 2007, I keep getting the message that SQL Server 2005 cannot be found. It will not allow me to sign onto sql server 2008 stating that it cannot be found. Do I have to now run the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1? Is there an upgrade to MS Access 2007 which will allow me to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Express?

Connection problem while connecting from client to server.

Hello, i am trying to connect sql server 2005 express using c#.net 3.5. my connection string is "Server=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_naren; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" this is working fine when i am connecting to sql server from the local machine. When i am trying to connect from someother machine to server it is giving error like A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) i added previliges in add new administrator on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration . and i made changes on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration  page, on Database Engine --> Remote Connections -->Local and remote connections --> Using both TCP/IP and named pipelines. still same error i am getting from client machine i am using connection string as "Server=MyServer\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_nare; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" is there any thing i need to do to connect from client machine to server?please

Importing Access 2010 tables to SQL Server 2008 R2

I'm trying to import a series of Access 2010 tables to Sql Server 2008 R2.  The Access import drivers are for *.mdb (which if I recall was the file extension for Access when I was a kid, and don't recognize the .accdb file extention).  Similarly, the Excel driver is for Excel 2003.  Isn't there a driver and method to import directly to SQL 2008 from Access 2010? SQL is installed on my server, but Access is not installed on the server.  When I copy the file onto the server and try and open it directly into SQL, I get a 'no editor installed' error. I can't get the 'upsize' wizard to work becuase it won't open the connection to SQL, even though I enter the userid and password of the SQL DB owner.  I get the following error: ===================================================== Connection failed: ============================================================= I have to say I'm stumped.  The rest of the Office 2010 suite works really well together - perhaps I'm missing something very simple? Thanks!     I guess I could export my tables as Excel 2003 and then import them using Integration Services, or install SQL Express on my laptop and 'upsize' to that instance, but SQL State: ‘0100’ SQL Server Error: 11004 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Dirver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQL

Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

Compatibility problem: an "sql server 2008 R2" db backup cannot be restored to an "sql server 2008"

To verify if the "2008 R2" version can be restored back to a "2008" dbserver I make an experiment:  construct a database on R2 version ( version : 10.50.xxx )  and backup it; then I try to restore the db backup to a "sql server 2008" db-server ( version : 10.0.xxx ) but get failed. Error message is as shown: The database was backed up on a server running version 10.50.1600. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 10.00.2531. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server.   Originally I want to upgrade a "2008" server to "2008 r2" , but this problem withdraws me: if I do so , I am afraid all the existing clientuser's dbs cannot be backed up to themselves if they don't have "2008 r2" locally:   if a database is backed up under "2008 r2" environment whereas client user only has "2008" db server, does it mean he cannot restore it anymore?   So I wonder if there is an approach that helps me to create a "backward-compatible" database; when creating database on wizard there is an option to choose "compatibility level" but I don't think it meets my requirement..    Anyone can help me on this ??

Connection to Exchange Server of .NET 1.1 Framework application on Windows 2008 64-bit

I am running Visual Studio 2003 .NET Framework 1.1 application on Windows 2008 64-bit machine. There is only one problem - connection to Exchange Server. The same application is running fine on Windows 7 64-bit machine (not server). I tried to use the same Interop.MAPI.dll I used for Windows 7, but it doesn't work for Windows 2008.   Please help.
