We are building a 3-tiered SharePoint 2010 farm that consists of 1 web front end (WFE), 1 app/CA server, and 1 database server.  All servers are running Windows 2008 service pack 1.  We can browse the Central admin site without any issue, but when we attempt to access sites on the WFE we get the following exception:

I have defined a new master page and set it as default for the main site.  Any time I create a new subsite it does not apply the new master page and defaults back to the default.master.  The Site Master Page Settings shows this error. The site master page setting currently applied to this site is invalid. Please select a new master page and apply it The system master page setting currently applied to this site is invalid. Please select a new master page and apply it. Now if I select "Inherit site master page from parent of this site" and "Inherit system master page" and click ok the site will use the new master page and everything is fine.  There is only one modification to the master page that was done so I know the master page isn't invalid.  Does anyone know the answer other than recreating the new master page.

Hello All, Currently using MOSS 2007 publishing site and using the CMS elements to publish content to the web.  One of our users is experiencing a strange problem whereby when they try to insert an image into the Sharepoint content editor using the Insert Picture functionality they get the following error when trying to browse to an image: The specified view is invalid.   at Microsoft.Sharepoint.SPViewCollection.get_Item(String strDisplayName) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.InitGridView(GridView grid) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.Configure(SMObjectList objectlist) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.SMObjectList.Handle_LoadCompleteEvent(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnLoadComplete(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Only one user is experiencing this problem, others are fine. Does anyone have ANY ideas what is causing this issue or how to fix it? Thanks

how to handle visitor load on web site

I've recently developed a web site in asp.net

I am using the code behind and as such haven't used any design architecture it looks like as follow

database is directly called from a class which I've written to make calls to sql proc and I am using dataset and asp repeater control to show data.

now the main issue is coming when i check for broken links it starts throwing error in database access on each page as the tool hits all the links within the web site.

would like to know is there anyway to solve this issue.

the maximum no of user I am expecting on a day is about 1000.

throw exception message giving internal server error on live site

using vb.net/asp.net 2005

when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500).  The code below:

            If isThisEmailValid(strEmailThatTheUserEntered) Then
		'do something

            Else

                Throw New Exception("You entered a bad email address.")

            End If

not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites.  has anyone seen this before?  For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.

as always, thanks for your feedback

When opening the Reports site, I get "A name was started with an invalid character." error

Hello, I am running out of ideas on how to get SSRS to work.  I am trying get this setup with the intention to replace our Crystal Reports server.  Currently I have set up the RS Virtual Directory on a Win XP box.  The ReportServer database sits on another SQL2000 box.

I can connect to the http://localhost/ReportServer/ on the XP box to display the page the depicts "Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.2047.00"

When I connect to the http://localhost/Reports/, I get this error "A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://leej/Reports/'. Line 1, Position 2"   I checked my IIS Virtual Directory properties for Reports and ASP.NET is set to v2.0.50727.   I also executed "aspnet_regiis.exe -i" in the "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727" directory.

Any thought on how to fix this?  I hate to let this blocker deters us from deploying SSRS.

Thanks,

John

How to handle the socket connection was aborted communication exception.....

TableLayoutControl exception "Error creating window handle"

I am using a TableLayoutPanel to create a report on a form. The layout is 1 column, with a
variable number of rows added based on the number of lines in the report. As I step through
a list of reports, the layout is cleared and rebuilt. After a few iterations of this an
exception in CreateHandle is thrown. Several hundred lines are destroyed and created each
time I switch reports.

I can't find a lot of mention of the error I'm seeing. Here is one of the better ones:

Visual Studio, Windows 7, Web Site, Profile Exception, HELP!

Hello,

I have a major problem with a website project using visual studio 2005...

I upgraded my PC to windows 7 X64, I installed vs 2005.

I made sure all components/references matched my old Winxp PC.

With all that said...

I make no changes to the project.

My project works fine in production environment.

I publish the unchanged project to my webserver, and I get the following error when accessing the site...

[ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type]
   System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic) +7469318

   System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) +99
   System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +50
   System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +141

I re-publish from my xp box, the error goes away.

The problem occurs on any page that trys to access the Profile object.

I have even tried converting site to .net

Linq2SharePoint Invalid Cast Exception

I'm trying to use Linq2SharePoint to get a count if items in a document library using the following code:

var context = new MyDataContext(webUrl);

var count = (from item in context.MyDocumentLibrary.ScopeToFolder("/", true).OfType<NewBusinessApplication>()
       where item.NewBusinessStatus = "Validation"
       select item).Count()

This should return a count of all NewBusinessApplication documents in all folders with the NewBusinessStatus of Validation.

If a run this on a document library with a mixture of document types it behaves as expected.  However, if a workflow has run on one of the NewBusinessApplication documents I get and InvalidCastException.

It appears from the stack trace that the error is when it's mapping the SPListItem to the concrete type generated by SPMetal but I can't find the specific column that's causing the issue.

Any suggestions or known issues I should look o

Invalid use of Response.Filter exception, possible ASP.NET bug

We have an HTTP module that compresses the Response Output (gzip) as followed:

  public class PageModule : IHttpModule
  {
       void app_AcquireRequestState(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
HttpContext.Current.Response.Filter = new GZipStream(HttpContext.Current.Response.Filter, CompressionMode.Compress);
}

  }

Now, this code works fine for all the pages EXCEPT a asynchronous IHTTPHandler that serves files. The code for that is:

  public class DownloadHandler : IHttpAsyncHandler
{
    public IAsyncResult BeginProcessRequest(HttpContext context, AsyncCallback cb, object extraData)
        {
    AsyncProcessorDelegate asyncDelegate = new AsyncProcessorDelegate(ProcessRequest);
            return asyncDelegate.BeginInvoke(context, cb, extraData);
}

  public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
        {
FileUtility.TransferFile(this.FilePath);
}

}

When the asynchronous file transfer is done, the .NET engine throws an exception "Invalid use of Response.Filter". Below is the stack:
