Provisioning: Use Web Services Provisioning to Control Access, Usage, and Billing on Your Site

Building Web Services to provide enterprise-level solutions is only the first step. You need to take care of the infrastructure aspects of your solution as well, including provisioning, billing, security, and reporting. In this article, the author uses the .NET Framework and SQL Server 2000 to design a provisioning system that will take care of all these housekeeping tasks. He discusses the general requirements of a Web Service provisioning system, walks through the implementation, and then outlines various scenarios for putting this system to work.

SENS: System Event Notification Services and WMI Enable Flexible, Efficient Mobile Network Computing

Networked applications must deal with a host of connection problems ranging from timeouts to congestion to unavailability. If these applications can check the current connection status and, when disconnected, cache transmissions, they become more efficient. Fortunately, both the System Event Notification System (SENS) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) can send notifications to keep applications informed of network status. In this article, the author explains the use of several SENS interfaces, including ISensNetwork and ISensLogon, which trigger events for connects/disconnects and logons/logoffs, respectively. The author then shows how you can subscribe to each of these events, and follows with a discussion of when you might use WMI events instead.

Reporting Services and Sharepoint Integration - Sharepoint Alternate Access Mappings (Zones)

I get the following error when I try to navigate to a report/model/data source, stored in a Sharepoint Document Library using a Sharepoint URL based on an Extranet or Intranet zone - but it works OK using the url for the Default zone: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecurityZoneNotSupportedException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. Is this a limitation of the SQLRS-WSS3 integration or is there a workaround? Many thanks to anyone who can help!

Access Denied and Null Returned while Accessing Web Services from remote server.

Please go through following scenario.  I am writing a web Service and one of its web method, I want it to download a png file in form of buffer from remote server. And My consume application will write that buffer retured by Web service in to file on User's Computer. However, I am able to do this using Local Web Service but when I published that service on my web server, I always get null retuned And even in one of my test code while copying file from that server , I always get Access Denied.  Following things I have done for above issue. 1] I even tried making the Anonymous user for the web service the system administrator (with the correct password), to no avail. 2] I also tried sharing out the folder I'm pulling files from to allow access from Everyone.   [Previously same service was working fine on another remote server with IIS 7.0, we checked server IIS Settings but in vain.]   if you know where we are mistaken please guide me to resolve this issue as its very urgent. Reporting Services 2008 - Anonymous Access

Hello,   In SSRS 2005 I was able to grant anonymous access to my reports by changing the authentication mode for the Reporting Services virtual directory in IIS to Anonymous and then adding the 'account used for anonymous access' to the permissions on the appropriate Reporting Services directories (in report manager).   Now with SSRS 2008 there are no virtual directories in IIS.   I tried to follow the instructions given:   http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281310.aspx (Authentication Types in Reporting Services)   Which instructed me to use the custom AuthenticationType, and following the instructions here:   http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281383.aspx (How to: Configure Custom or Forms Authentication in Reporting Services)   which just got me an error: The Authentication Extension threw an unexpected exception or returned a value that is not valid: . (rsAuthenticationExtensionError) Get Online Help For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors   Any ideas on how to set up anonymous access to SSRS2008?   Thanks for any time and help!   -Tim
