DBCC error and Log Files

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Running SQL Server 2008 Standard - I am getting a DBCC error from Symantec Backup Exec.   What is the best place to start figuring how to fix this?   Also, I want to check the log files to be certain they are being truncated during backup.  Notes on when this was installed do not show where the log files are located.  How can I tell what drive and folder they are located.

Database temporary corruption - DBCC CHECKDB error

I've run into a very strange and frustrating recurring error. I have a Single instance SQL Server 2005 DBMS on Win2K3 Server x86.  The problem occurs with a *single* database on the system, the other databases are unaffected.  We primarily access this database for editing through an Access 2007 data project, though it's accessed (select only) from many places using odbc or oledb. Basically some sort of corruption (or apparent corruption) occurs after a server update and reboot (usually unrelated to the DB software).  After that, the database is fine sometimes, other times it is fine until we try to access it via the ADP.  At that point it becomes inaccesssible by the ADP, though it can still be accessed through all other methods.  Running DBCC CHECKDB (databasename) returns: Msg 211, Level 23, State 51, Line 1 Possible schema corruption. Run DBCC CHECKCATALOG. Running DBCC CHECKCATALOG (databasename) returns no errors. Restarting the database service (from inside SSMS typically) will fix it *eventually* after a few restarts.  I can find no rhyme or reason to the apparent corruption.  I'll be glad to look and post any other log entries that might be relevant.  I should note that the database was originally created way back in SQL Server 7, though it's got no real customizations, triggers, and very few constraints on it.  It's

Custom Workflow Error: The Workflow files were saved but cannot be run

Hi all,

I'm wondering if someone would have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this custom workflow issue.

Recently we can't attach any SharePoint Designer workflow to any list in a farm. We get this error message:

"Errors were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run. Unexpected error on server associating the workflow"

The standard workflows from UI seems to be working fine. Also user defined workflow is enabled. In the past I was able to fix similar issue with another farm following this post (remvoing SP designer custom workflow activities entries)- but does not look like this is the case this time.

Nothing in the logs regarding this error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

SSIS Random Error, Ragged Right Flat Files

I am having a random error with my package(trying to generate fixed length text file using Ragged Right from one sql server table).

Data looks like for most of the runs(good data):

However, maybe for 1 out of 10-20 runs, some rows appear to be deleted misteriously(log shows everything fine and I am sure there is no other procoess update the file). This can happen anywhere(but just only at 1 place ). SSIS didn't provide any error or warning, it even says it inserted correct number of rows in the log.

Sometimes data generated like this:

DTLA01                                             08320100201N000020.7400C

Have anyone seen this kind of error before. I have tried e

Error opening excel files stored in SharePoint 3.0 from VS2010 (TFS2010 setup)

First I hope this is the correct forum for te below question, and if not, please excuse and if possible divert me to the correct place.

We have a TFS2010 setup with (what I managed to identify) Sharepoint Services 3.0.
We have 2 users working in the same collection, and also share some of the projects in it with the below problems:

1. User A has Office 2007. She is unable to "edit workbook" on an excel file directly from VS2010, and gets an error of 'Unknown error trying to lock file'. I searched this around and didn't find a solution, but did find a workaround - If she checks out the file directly from the SharePoint site, she is able to edit the file, and in fact is able to later "edit workbook" directly from VS2010 (as long as she once checked it out through SharePoint).

2. User B has Office 2010. When he tries to "edit workbook", he gets an error of 'A problem occurred while connecting to the server. If the problem continues, contact your administrator'. When he goes directly to the SharePoint, he is able to check out the file, open it in Excel 2010, but is not able to check it back in (gets an error that the file cannot be located or so, I don't have the exact error). This means that this user cannot work with the SharePpoint stored files at all, and currently works on local copies on hi

Add Database through App_Data Error- Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Express

I am trying to add a new database via the App_Data Folder and I receive an error described below.

I had attached an mdf file to try to use it in SQL Server 2008 Developer and Visual Studio 2010, which was is included in a book's lesson.  Whenever I try to add a database within the App_Data Folder I get an error.

I can create a db by attaching an mdf via SQL Server Mgmt Studio, it connects fine, and I can see tables.

Mgmt Studio- Right Click Databases, Attach, Add, then once mdf is located:

The mdf file location, Database Name, Attach As, -- are all the same:

Do I need to change the Database Name?

Visual Studio- Server Explorer connects fine to mdf OR regular Database, I can see the tables.

However when I attempt to add ANY TYPE OF SQL SERVER DATABASE through the App_Data folder I receive this error "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2008 to function properly.  Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl."

I tested this for both a normal dbo (non mdf) and the mdf.dbo I attached before, with the same error!

Im running XP SP3 w/ Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer.  I had previously removed SQL Server Express.

SQL Server 2008 r2 - Setup support files - Install error / reading from file

I'm installing SQL server 2008 r2 on a Win2003 R2 x86 system.

After i start the setup, the "setup support files" box begins installing, after a while i get this error:

"Error reading from file f:\1033_ENU_LP\x86\setup\sqlsupport_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\100\Setup\ewbfphdh\x86\Patch\rs2000.msp verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

I've tried another DVD, i've tried a mounted share on another machine...no go....i've tried an ISO file mounted on this server... same error.

Is there any way i can install this "setup support files" from another location? (download)

Is there a switch soo it won't install reporting services? (...i think this file rs2000.msp is from reporting services)

Error Handling loading Excel Files with SSIS 2005

I have an SSIS job which watches a directory for new files being submitted. On detecting a file(s) it determines the process to perform on it (based on the file name) and then reads in the file, loads it into the database, and deletes the file. All is fine. I want to add error handling though, specifically for the instance where the worksheet name does not correspond to that defined in the Excel Connection manager for this file.

At the moment if I change the sheet name to be different to that defined in the connection manager, the job fails and so (in turn) the whole process ceases (i.e. the for loop also goes to status failed).

I have tried event handler variables and checkpoints but without success. Could someone give me some advise, or point me to a article that would help?

Export to Excel big size files (10000 pages) - HTTP Error 401.1

DBCC Error 208 - Trouble with the account

We are running SQL 2008 standard on MSFT Server 2008.  The database DBCC checks are failing and I need help to get this fixed.   Here is the error info...  Event ID 208  "Unablel to determine if the owner (domin\Administrator) of job BMC: Check Integrity (database name) has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DOMAIN\Administrator', error code 0x5. Uploading Large files via Web Service | HTTP Error 413 - Request Entity Too Large.

Hello all -

I am trying to implement a Web Service, which accepts a binary file as a byte array for one of its parameters.  It's workings are based on this article:

Anyhow, the size of the file can be significant as the types of files being uploaded through the service are MP4 Video files.  The service works on my WinXP SP2 localhost, but when I implement it onto a 2003 Server and try to consume the service, I get the following error back from the web service:
The request failed with HTTP status 413: Request Entity Too Large.

I do a little searching around and find a few articles indicating that I need to adjust my "MaxReadAheadLength" property in IIS.  A good example of one of those articles is here:

The suggestion from the article is to execute the following command on the web server:
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/1/uploadreadaheadsize 204800

FYI, the adsutil.vbs is in your IIS's AdminScripts directory.  I'm guessing that the /1/ part of the command is th

MFSvcUtil generated proxy files compiling error

I have a temperature sensor running DPWS, for which I have a WSDL file; and I want to talk to it from a Win32 client.
I managed to use MFSvcUtil.exe temperature.wsdl to generate proxy files (TemperatureSensor.cs, TemperatureSensorClientProxy.cs, TemperatureSensorHostedService.cs). However, when I want to use it in my project, my VS2010 gives me the following error:
'www.xxx.yyy.zzz.TemperatureSensor.StatusDataContractSerializer.ReadObject(System.Xml.XmlReader)': no suitable method found to override (TemperatureSensor.cs ...).

My questions are:
(1) is it the correct way to use MFSvcUtil.exe to generate proxy for a normal .NET application to talk to a DPWS device?
(2) if answer is yes to Q(1), what is wrong wit

Error saving Office 2010 files opened from SharePoint Server 2007

I have recently started testing Office 2010 and have found only 1 major issue - I cannot save any Office 2010 files opened from a SharePoint Server 2007 location.  Upon save I receive an error message saying "Upload Failed. This file wan not uploaded because the specified path was not found on the server." and the file is captured in the Microsoft Upload Center.  Using the Upload Center action 'Open Web Site' opens the site without problem; however, a all subsequent resolve actions fail.  Any ideas?

Designer Error when accessing files: Server could not complete your request

on our development server, I suddenly cannot access files through Designer.  The site opens, but when I try to open the list folder to get to the files, I get:

The server could not complete your request.  Contact your Interner service provider or webserver administrator to make sure that the server has the FP Server Extensions or SP Services installed.

The weird thing is that I can log on to Designer from another computer and it works fine. Clicking on the Details button reveals nothing.  Our server admin is just learning.  Can anyone recommend any ideas?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Error when installing installation support files on 2008 R2

I am installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Server 2008 R2 machine. I run setup as administrator and I get to the Install Support Files step. It goes through several of the "workflow" steps. When it gets to "ExecuteStandardTimingsWorkflow" step, it throws an error:

"SQL Server Setup failure.

Attempted to Read or Write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.."

I ran this on several other physical as well as virtual machines and I get the same problem. With SQL 2005, there is a similar issue where it tries to install to a compressed directory and throws the error.

If this is the same situation, If I can find out what is being installed where during ExecuteStandardTimingsWorkflow I can check that, but if it is something simpler, please advise.
