Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

RBS Maintainer not cleanup files in file system (SharePoint 2010)

Here's my environment:   Server #1: SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, RBS enabled Server #2: SharePoint Foundation 2010, RBS installed I setup RBS according to this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663474.aspx successfully. And I can see the files are storing in NTFS file system instead of database. And then I'm configuring RBS Maintainer according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff943566.aspx . But it doesn't seem working as expected. I deleted the file from SharePoint Document Library and emptied recycle bin, even in site collection recycle bin. And even I delete the whole site collection. The RBS Maintainer doesn't delete the files in file system. I've updated the following rbs config on my content database for test: exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'garbage_collection_time_window', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'delete_scan_period ', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'orphan_scan_period', 'time 00:00:00'; Maintainer output after I deleted the file, emptied end user recycle bin and site collection recycle bin : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer\Microsoft.Data.SqlRemot eBlobs.Maintainer.exe" -Connect

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Sharepoint.Search

I've done a fair amount of digging on this and have found this post that suggests that its caused by the .dll being marked for AMD and not for ia64.  This error occurred after I linked the new cluster to the existing sharepoint farm prior to migration.  Then started moving project files over and rebuilding for the upcoming new server name.  I've tried copying the .dll from the regular 12 hive into the GAC but it won't make a change to the processor architecture.

Do I need to re-run the configuration wizard or something?  Anyone have an easy fix?  Thanks.

Any source for extracting files from file system ?

Hi Everyone,

I had a package which was using Sharepoint List Source a third party component to pull the files from sharepoint datasource. Then i had some scipt tasks to pull files with specified regular expression.

I want to  now update the package with a change of pulling files from File system instead of sharepoint. Can anyone suggest me with ideas or third party component i can use ?

I thought of using FileSystem Task - where i can copy files from my A folder to B(local) folder , but facing some issues - how to pull files with regular exp matching ?

Please Please help and suggest with ideas

File Stream Folders / Files still in file system

Hi All,

I have dropped and re-created a table that contains filestream columns.  When I have done this I see that the original folders / files still exist out on the file system.  How is it that these will get removed since the orignal table(s) have been dropped and re-created?

Looks like the folders are always two levels deep.  What does each represent? I can see the actual files, but what do the parent / child folders represent?

I also see the F$log folder.

On the fly URL rewriting based on users' search terms

Sometimes when I search some phrases in google (e.g "My Custom Search Phrase"), I see some very interesting results. Sites that look like:
http://www.SomeSite.Com/My_Custom_Search_Phrase/ or:

Well, it seems like it's a SEO trick and pages are generated on the fly. Most of the sites I see using this technique are written in php and I'm very curious to know how this can be achieved programmatically in .Net.

I'm pretty sure that I should use url rewriting to be able to do such a thing, But could anyone be more specific about:

Foreach Loop Container & File System Task to copy files from target server to source server

A one-off shot at using, SSIS, I appear to be missing something.

From what I have read here, the Foreach Loop Container in which a File System Task has been placed is how one copies files contained in a source server folder to a folder on a target server.  I have defined Source and Destination pkg variables using UNC \\servername\aharedfolder and a FileName variable that is empty.  My impression is that this is suppose to iterate through and copies all files in the source folder to the target.  I only get the first file copied.

In the FLC Collection section  I am using the Foreach File Enumerator under which I have the Folder as \\servername\sharedfolder and files as *.* .  I am not using Expressions.  The Variables Mapping reference my FileName variable.

In the FST, I both path variables set to True and reference the destination and source variables described above.  Operation is Copy File.

I appears that I need to pass a list of the source folder file names to the FileName variable, rather than some built-in logic grabbing a files in the source folder.  Is a passed filename list what I am missing?

Storage system for SSIS packages(SQL Server , File System, SSIS package store)

Hello SSIS experts,

I just wanted to confirm the difference between SQL Server storage and SSIS Package store for packages. As seen from the BIDS, the SQL Server list packages from msdb(point to note is the folder MSDB is not visible here) and SSIS Package store(MSDB folder is visible) and the authentication is defaulted to Windows (disabled)  from both the file system and msdb?  Just wanted to know if there are any other differences to be noted or request to let me know if there are any corrections to be madein my views?

Happy to help! Thanks. Regards and good Wishes, Deepak.

dynamically adding sql server columns based on number of files in fileuploader

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")

I would like to create a simple program, like a game, but so far without any graphical interface. Only a code, supported with some numbers, so that the user will know whats going on in the background.

Car: engine, chassis, tyres
