Web Site Admin Tool - cannot establish connection

I have a question with this tool.  I have a database listed in the App_folder, and the database has a connection in Server explorer.  The connection string is listed in the web.config file, and I am able to add users and roles with the Web Admin Tool.  However, when in the Web Admin Tool, under Configuration tab, I receive an error when I click on the "test" button.  The error reads

" Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."

How can this be, and how do I correct this?

SSP problem: This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site

I am facing some problem in SharePoint 2007 SSP. Actually I have restored the SSP databases (SSP db and SSP search DB) on the development environment using SQL database restore option. After the restore, I have used Restore SSP option to create a new SSP and mapped the restored SSP DB and search DB. The SSP restore operation was succeessful but when I try to navigate to Search setting in the newly created SSP it is giving me the error that "This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site. " The same error messages is coming for some other links as well in same SSP.

Can somebody guide me how to solve this problem?

Customized sharepoint portal is not accessible to normal users unless a site admin access the site o

Hello there

I have created a sharepoint portal and customized it. I have created my own master page and there are many webparts implemented. This has been hosted in a MOSS server. When a normal user is trying to access the portal first thing in the morning, he is getting a "You are not authorized to view this page" error. But when a site admin access the site, there is no issue and he is able to access the site. The site admin does nothing in the site and once he has logged in to the site,  the user is able to access the site without any trouble.

I have tried to look into the master page gallery and has given full access to the users for "Style Resource Readers" user group. Even now the user is facing the same issue.

Kindly help in this regards,

Error ""The site /ssp/admin could not be created" during SSP Creation

I've a problem when creating a new SSP. My farm is composed by a Sql Server Cluster, 2 Front end, and 2 application.

Now the SSP is located (Search Database) on the first application server, and i'm Trying to Create a second SSP with DB pointing on another server.

When I create the ssp, i receive a generic error (via Web interface and Stsadm.exe). In the LOGS I found as follow.

It seems something due to the SSP Admin Site and it's template.

Can yuu help me?

BDC without Admin site

Hi folks,

Sorry for the dumb question, but can BDC only be used if you have access to the Sharepoint Admin site in order to set it up, i.e. end users can't do anything themselves without submitting an .def file to an admin?

Simply put, I have a pretty straightforward Oracle query I want to run and display the contents in a web part and as far I can tell, I'd need an admin to do this for me.

Programmatically activating an admin-approved form template to a site collection?

I am currently programmatically generating infopath forms with code-behind, and for each generated form, I need to be able to host the form template as a content type. Since I have a farm solution, I know that I would usually have to publish manually to admin-approved form template as opposed to form libraries or content types directly and afterwards create content types which reference those form templates. I was wondering what I would need to do to achieve the following results:

1) Programmatically activate a form template to a site collection (this is the big question mark for me)

2) Programmatically generate a content type which references said form template (I believe I already have this part down using the SP Object Model)

The environment I am building in uses SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition, InfoPath2010, .NET 3.5, VS 2010.

Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated.

Site Collection Admin Unable to create subsite

Hi All,

We are running into a wierd kind of problem, we had a site called A, A had to be split for two different user base so A was exported into B. Now we have two sites A & B with its own user groups.

Site collection admins of B are not able to create subsites in B. But site collection Admins of both A & B are able to create subsites in either sites.

if site collection admin of  B is given read/write control on Site A then he is able to create sites in B (totally wierd)

Can anybody help me identifying what is happening here and points to start our troubleshooting.

Thanks in Advance,

Web Site Admin Tool problem in VS2005

When I create a new project and try to use the WSAT security tab, I get the following :

There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database.

I am using VS2005 beta2 with a local copy of SQL Server Express.

I am new to all of this so a little help would be great

Site Admin Can't Delete Content In Document Library

I am the admin of a site and need to delete a version of a document someone else uploaded into a document library. In other libraries, when I hover over the document, I get the drop-down which contains the "Edit Item, Open In... and Delete". In the particular library, I don't get that menu. Any ideas why?

BDC Service gives Access Denied on Central Admin site

We have a new installation of SharePoint 2010 using Kerberos authentication and everything works fine but Business Data Connectivity Services. We get "Access Denied" from the Central Administration site when we click on "Manage Service Applications" and then we click the name of the BDC service. The SharePoint WFE and the DB catalogs are on two different servers in case that matters. Anyone seen this issue before?

Allow non-admin users view site and list settings (delegate control feature?).

I wonder if anyone knows of a way to allow regular users to view settings for sites, lists and document libraries (e.g. versioning, navigation, library template settings) without granting them permissions to change these settings?

Why do I need it?

This is to allow 1st line support to gather some information and identify possible causes of user issues without having to escalate every call to users with admin or site owner permissions.

A user logs a call saying he's uploaded a document but other users cannot see it. Now,

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.
