Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

Problem
One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

Solution
If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

TSQL: Passing array/list/set to stored procedure (MS SQL Server)

Passing array/list/set to stored procedure is fairly common task when you are working with Databases. You can meet this when you want to filter some collection. Other case - it can be an import into database from extern sources. I will consider few solutions: creation of sql-query at server code, put set of parameters to sql stored procedure's parameter with next variants: parameters separated by comma, bulk insert, and at last table-valued parameters (it is most interesting approach, which we can use from MS SQL Server 2008). Ok, let's suppose that we have list of items and we need to filter this items by categories ("TV", "TV game device", "DVD-player") and by firms ("Firm 1", "Firm2", "Firm 3). It will look at database like this So we need a query which will return us list of items from database. Also we need opportunity to filter these items by categories or by firms. We will filter them by identifiers. Ok, we know the mission. How we will solve it? Most easy way, used by junior developers - it is creating SQL-instruction with C# code, it can be like this List<int> categories = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 };   StringBuilder sbSql = new StringBuilder(); sbSql.Append( @" select i.Name as ItemName, f.Name as FirmName, c.Name as CategoryName from Item i inner join Firm f on i.FirmId =

Accessing IO resources from CLR stored procedure

Hi There I am trying to write a CLR stored procedure that will return all the data about the fixed drives on a SQL server. Here is my code: using   System; using   System.Data; using   System.Data.SqlClient; using   System.Data.SqlTypes; using   Microsoft.SqlServer.Server; using   System.IO;   public   partial class StoredProcedures { [Microsoft.SqlServer.Server. SqlProcedure]   public static void Test() {   SqlPipe sp = SqlContext.Pipe;   String strCurrentTime = DiskSpace(); sp.Send(strCurrentTime); }   //[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction(SystemDataAccess =SystemDataAccessKind.Read)]   //[System.Security.Permissions.PermissionSet(System.Security.Permissions.SecurityAction.Assert, Unrestricted =true)]   public static string DiskSpace() {   new System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission(System.Security.Permissions.PermissionState.Unrestricted).Assert();   String Drives = "";   DriveInfo[] allDrives = DriveInfo.GetDrives();   foreach (DriveInfo d in allDrives) { Drives = ( "Drive " + d.Name);   //Console.WriteLine(" File type: {0}", d.DriveType);   if (d.IsReady == true) { Drives += " Volume label: " + d.VolumeLabel;   //Console.WriteLine(&qu

Accessing table in DBO schema from Stored Procedure in other Schema

I am experiencing a strange issue related to schema qualification at a customer. No matter what we've tried we cannot recreate the issue internally. I am hoping someone can help. We create a Stored Procedure on a schema called "Import". In this stored procedure, we have numerous references to tables on the "dbo" schema, but we have not qualified them (I know this is not best practice, but it's legacy code and we're not going to change it right now). This has been used at other customers without issue. This one new customer is getting an issue where it does not seem to find the dbo table when trying to create the stored procedure. If we take the query out of a stored proceure and just run it as a T-SQL script, it works. So, the code below works select * from Import.Dirsync a join Inventory i on a.Audit_InventoryID = i.InventoryID But this does not. It complains that the column "InventoryID" on the table "Inventory" does not exist. create procedure Import.Test as select * from Import.Dirsync a join Inventory i on a.Audit_InventoryID = i.InventoryID My understanding is that any object on the dbo schema will be resolved. Again, this is working on all other servers with our databases. Any suggestions? Thanks Craig Bryden - Please mark correct answers

SQL Server 2005 - Specifying Optional Parameter in Stored Procedure

I need to alter the following stored procedure so that the UserID is an optional parameter. I have, as yet, been unsuccessful. Basically, if the user doesn't supply a User ID, I want to return all of the users that match the other criteria.

This seems like it should be a simple thing.......

ALTER PROCEDURE [QMS].[GetQueries]

@CompanyID tinyint

,@DepartmentID tinyint

,@ApplicationID int

,@UserID AS

SELECT [QueryID]

,[UserID]

,[QueryName]

,[Comments]

,[CreateDate]

,[UpdateDate]

,[ExpirationDate]

,[LastAccessedDate]

FROM [ReportQueries]

WHERE

[UserID] = @UserID

ADO accessing stored procedure

I have the following SQL which outputs fine when run both adhoc and as sproc in SQL Studio.

But when I try to retrieve data using ADO... the recordset returns with nothing. I've tried accessing the sproc through CommandObject and  Recordset.Open methods and it's giving me nothing!

The only difference between this query and all others I've successfully written is this is the first time I'm using EXECUTE sp_ExecuteSQL

Does  EXECUTE sp_ExecuteSQL  require special handling in ADO? This is ADO 2.6, VB6 and SQL 2008.

declare @itemID varchar(20)
declare @columns varchar(max)
declare @startdt datetime
declare @enddt datetime
set @itemID = '008888164647'
set @columns = '[September], [O

SQL Server 2008 - Stored Procedure

I work for a software manufacturing company and I am doing a project for a very large potential customer.  This customer has a SQL Server 2008 DB and claims that his emplpyee's can only access the DB (read or write) using a stored procedure.  Now the catch is we cant re-write the software to accomidate this customer, and our requests to see the stored procedure to see how hes using it have failed.  But I need to be able to access his DB at no additional cost to the customer.  Is there any way to call a SP using a Data Source Driver?  Or any other ideas, I need an answer for this cutomer today :(
