I checked out these posts: http://forums.asp.net/p/1562439/3875469.aspx and http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/csharpgeneral/thread/4c6fce15-c7d1-43e9-a7d5-5eeb6da2a70b

No mapping exists from object type System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label to a known managed provider nativ

 I'm making the leap to move from vb.net to C#, and I'm getting this crazy error when I try to execute one sp, set a value, and then execute another sp based on the value.   Any suggestions??? proc_GetSectionDetails is my first stored procedure.  From that, I get a value for SectionID, and then use it for the second sp called  proc_GetSectionDetails protected void getSectionContent() { SqlConnection conn = default(SqlConnection); SqlCommand comm = default(SqlCommand); SqlDataReader reader = default(SqlDataReader); string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["123"].ConnectionString; conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString); comm = new SqlCommand(); comm.Connection = conn; comm.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; comm.CommandText = "proc_GetSectionDetails"; comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("SubSectionID", Request.QueryString["SubSectionID"]); conn.Open(); reader = comm.ExecuteReader(); if (reader.Read()) { lblName.Text = Convert.ToString(reader["SubSectionName"]); lblDesc.Text = Convert.ToString(reader["SubSectionDescription"]); Label SubSectionParentID = new Label();

BCS Method Security / External Content Type Permissions / Custom List Security Provider / Security T

I have an external list setup with the usual CRUD methods.  The external SQL table is also being populated by another source.  I want to enable/disable deleting depending on whether the record was created from SharePoint.  I would also like the normal list permissions to work.  So if a user has permissions to delete on the list, they can only delete items created for SharePoint.

Where should this logic be incorporated?  On the BCS Delete method, somewhere in the External Content Type or on the list instance?  Most examples I find relate to security trimming for search.  I'm only concerned about the delete method.

I'm sure there are multiple ways to accomplish this.  Which is the best?

No mapping exists from object type System.Xml.Linq.XDocument to a known managed provider native type

I am using XML in getting client data in 3-tier architecture, using XDocument in passing XML among layers.

But when I use it in inserting this XML in XDocument, it throws the following error:

No mapping exists from object type System.Xml.Linq.XDocument to a known managed provider native type.

I am using the following code, it throws the exception at the bold line:

 public void DALInsertXML(XDocument x)

Trouble with codedom serialization for CollectionEditor of UserControl or Parent type.

I'm developing a simple user conrol named Taskbar. It contains a property of TabArray type which inherits ArrayList. This property has an attached attribute DesignerSerializationVisibility which forces the VS to serialize this property as a Content. I also provide a special Editor for this TabArray.

If the Tab class is a simple class then all is Ok. But if it is a subclass of UserControl or Panel then the VS serializes it wrong for some reason. What do I mean exactly is missing line this.taskbar1.Tabs.Add(this.tab1). So the instance of Tab is not added to the Tabs collection.

1. What is the reason of this behavior?

2. How can I solve this problem?

Thanks in advance. And sorry for my broken English.

Generating C++/CLI pointer type via System.CodeDom

I generate C++/CLI code via System.CodeDom of .NET. Recently, I had to create a C++/CLI method with a pointer, like int foo(char *data) , which turned out tricky.

The code

System.CodeDom.CodeParameterDeclarationExpression(type, name)

creates parameters with handles(^) only, not pointers(*) and I can't find a way to do it.

TreeSelector : playing with generics and type inference

create a generic way to define a selection starting from a tree of objects, the most simpler way as possible.

Let's start with the beginning...
Here is a very simple little interface defining a node of the tree, basically, a value and the references to the child nodes.

Building a LINQ Provider

Throughout this article, we will build a simple IQueryable provider similar to the LINQ to SQL provider demonstrating what is needed to build a custom provider that is capable of executing LINQ queries and performing create, update and delete operations.

UnTyped DataSets and Strongly Type DataSets

We all are use datasets as a means of carrier of data from one layer to another. Most of the time we are using weakly typed datasets. In this article I will explain the differences between weakly typed datasets and strongly type datasets

Type or namespace error.

A couple of days ago I started getting an unusual behavior when compiling Website projects. I have referenced class libraries added to my bin folder that are also correctely referenced in using statements in my aspx.cs code behind. When I compile, I get the

I can eliminate the error by adding an

Bug: Does not change column type from nvarchar to ntext

Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.

Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.

The number of members in the conceptual type ... does not match with the number of members on the ob

I've added a scalar property to an entity and now ASP.NET Dynamic Data scaffolding throws this error:

The number of members in the conceptual type 'TrainingModel.Users' does not match with the number of members on the object side type 'TrainingModel.Users'. Make sure the number of members are the same.

This happens at the following line in global.asax:
model.RegisterContext(typeof(TrainingModel.TrainingEntities), new ContextConfiguration() { ScaffoldAllTables = true });

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPerm

Good Day all,

Having an issue with an outside user accessing my IIS7 box. I do not have this problem when running the website from my host machine. I found this post: Http://forums.asp.net/t/1371394.aspx. I assure you that this is not a solution because I am not storing any of my files on a network share.

What do you think my approach should be.

I already have read rights to IIS user to my BIN folder.

Thanks for the help.

Membership Provider Conn String

Hello. I've bee successfully using the Asp.Net Membership Provider in my VB.Net 3.5/SQL 2005 web app for a year now (Site A). However, I've added 2 new sites (B and C) (both with their own DB) and now I see a problem. It looks like users that get created for sites B and C also get created in site A. Roles that I create for B and C only get created in A. I think it is a conn string problem.

When I created A, I adde the conn string to my machine.config (not sure why I did this or if it is even needed)...

         <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=VS689\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=SiteA;USER ID=sa;PASSWORD=123456"/>

                <add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=blahblah" connectionStringName="LocalSqlS

Which is the best sql provider?

Which is the best sql provider on .NET Framework : DataSet, LINQ, ADO.NET Entity Framework?

Need Syntax To Make Results of LINQ Union Return Non-Generic Type

I have the below SQL which works just fine:

SELECT     Message, CreateDate, AccountId, AlertTypeId
FROM       dbo.Alerts
SELECT     TOP (100) PERCENT Status, CreateDate, AccountId,
                          (SELECT     10 AS Expr1) AS AlertTypeId
FROM         dbo.StatusUpdates
WHERE AccountId = PassedInParameter

I have been going about trying to convert the above into a LINQ method and am having problems with return types.
As the above SQL illustrates, I am querying two distinct LINQ tables - Alerts and StatusUpdates -
and then attempting to perform a Union on them. In order to do the union in LINQ, I have to have agreeing types. So, I
am using "var" to make the results of "alerts" and "updates" generic before the union.

public IList GetStatusUpdatesAsAlertsByAccountId<T>(Int32 accountId)
            using (WorkbookDataContext dc = _conn.GetCont

Provider Error

I have a web application and a business class library where all database connections are made. Not periodically but quite often, I get an error in the class library when i execute an oledbcommand. I have no problem defining and opening a connection but as soon as I try to execute a command or fill a table by an oledbadaptor, I get this error:

'SQLOLEDB' failed with no error message available, result code: E_FAIL(0x80004005)

After getting this error, when I reset IIS, everything starts to work perfectly but after a while, the same problem occurs again.

Does anyone have a clue about what might cause this problem?

Thanks in advance
