slow Edit Top 200 Rows in SSMS

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a fast dedicated  server (2008 64bit) with mssql 2008 hosted by my provider on the internet. I create a database with SSMS on the server itself with 1 empty table, with 1 row. When I right click this table and use: “Edit Top 200 Rows” it shows this empty table directly.

When I login from my local computer and connect using SSMS and do also “Edit Top 200 Rows”, it first wait for 6 seconds and then shows the table data.

Just for testing did the same witch a table with 5000 rows. Also the same thing happens. When I do a “Select Top 1000 rows”, it shows within 1 second, so the server and its connection looks fine.

Question: What can do to speed up this “Edit Top 200 Rows”?

Is that possible to edit a record within a gridview on 2 rows to make it look better when editing?

Like I have 8 columns in my gridview.

I wish to have 4 columns on row one and the 4 remaining columns on row 2.

Thanks!

Allowing Certain Users to Edit Certain Rows in a GridView

Here's my problem:    Different agencies are submitting projects to us, but I only want them to be able to edit their specific project (in addition, when they submit a project, they can only submit on behalf of their agency - but that may be a separate issue). Anyway, I can use the codebehind to show/hide the edit/delete/details buttons based on whether or not the user is authenticated using the following simple code in the Page_Init event:   If User.Identity.IsAuthenticated Then GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = True Else GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False End If   To get what I want, though, I need to check each row (RowDataBound Event?).  The "SponsoringAgency" field will need to be validated against the user's credentials, and then the Edit button will be visible/invisible based on the result. Here's what I don't know how to do: 1.  When the user registers, have an additional field that asks and stores their agency information. 2.  I can't quite figure out how to get the SponsoringAgency value from the gridview.  I've tried a few tests using:   If e.Row.Cells(11).Text = "AgencyA" Then e.Row.Cells(11).Text = "TEST" End If   This does not work - the text isn't changed.  One of the possible problems is that I'm not sure I'm getting the right column in my grid

gridview edit all rows

I have a dynamically created gridview where I could have 13 columns at max or 7 at min with some boundfields  from a dataTable as well as a templatefield for a button.  I would like to make 3 of these databound columns editable across all rows when the gridview is rendered.  I believe I need to replace the boundfields of the columns I want keep open for editiing with templatefields.  However, I am having difficulty in passing the values from the Datatable into the template fields. I can't hard code the Templatefield like many examples show.  I need the template field to be created through the Datatable loop and then bound to the gridview.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to edit multiple rows in a grid

Hi,

I have a gridview on a web form and it is working, but the users find it too slow for data entry with them having to click on the edit and update buttons.  I would like to allow them to edit all the rows and then when the form's overall save button is pressed then I save the changes.  I found this: http://csharpdotnetfreak.blogspot.com/2009/05/edit-multiple-records-gridview-checkbox.html which does something similar, but I don't want to use the check box to indicate which row is being edited.  I've got close based on that code, but one of the controls in the column needs to control how the rest of the columns are displayed and I can't work out how to refer to the other columns and control on the current row from some code that is called by the OnTextChanged associated with a control.

I hope I've managed to state clearly what my problem is, if not let me know and I'll try again.

Thanks for any help

My new item form is loading very quickly but edit form taking more than a minute. I tried with helath reports and firebug and yslow tools.

programmatically add/edit datagrid rows

Hello,

I'm new to WPF, and I'd like to add rows with data at runtime, and edit data manually in a DataGrid, just as it was possible to do with the WinForms DataGridView.

WPF DataGrid control is really awesome, but lacks some simplicity and generality of WinForms, like unbound data...

Can someone please give me a hint?

Regards,

Igor

Can no longer edit a maintenance plan in SSMS

I have a SQL Server 2005 instance (the entire stack) installed and am using maintenance plans for backups, etc.  I performed a side-by-side installation of SQL Server 2008 (the entire stack).  All appeared well.

However, no longer see the maintenance plans under the maintenance plan folder in SSMS (neither SSMS 2k5 or SSMS 2k8).  I can see the plans if I connect to Integration services.  The maintenance plans execute sucessfully.

I am not 100% sure this behavior was not present before the 2k8 install, but I really have no reason to think otherwise, either.  I just did not pay close attention to it.

Is this an intended behavior?  Now, to edit the plans I have to export them from Integration Services, edit them in BIDS/VS and re-import them (unless I am missing something).  Not a show stopper but it is a hassle.  It is also something that will cause my customers to shake their heads and wonder what is going on.

Any ideas?

TIA

Inplace Edit in GridView

In this article I am presenting a different way to look at EditItemTemplate, using which user navigation for editing is reduced and . it looks very different (see screeen shots) then regular implementation of GridView.

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

jQuery: Highlight Gridview Rows with Checkbox

Im learning and experimenting with jQuery and ASP.NET. Below is a simple solution I created to highlight rows in a gridview by clicking on a checkbox next to the row.

Gridview setup:

Highlighting Rows with TextBox OnFocus

In another article I explained that how you can make the rows of the GridView control clickable and highlight them when they are clicked. In this article I will explain that how you can highlight the GridView rows when you focus on the TextBox which is contained inside the GridView control.

Edit GridView Individual Cells in ASP.NET

The ASP.NET GridView allows for a row of data to be edited by setting the EditIndex property of the GridView, placing the entire row in edit mode.

You may not want the entire row in edit mode if you are using DropDownList controls for several columns in the EditItemTemplate. If each DropDownList has many options then loading them all at once may result in a sluggish page. Also, if your data structure is more like a 2 dimensional array rather than a set of rows, you may want to edit each cell individually.

Here I will demonstrate how to achieve this and also how to deal with event validation without disabling it.

ASP.Net Gridview Edit Update Cancel Commands

In ASP.Net 2.0, GridView Control also provides the functionality to edit and update the data retrieved from the database using CommandField template. You can cancel the action using Cancel Command of the CommandField. GridView consists of events that can be used to perform the actions like edit, update and cancel upon the Data items displayed in the ASP.Net GridView Data Control.

jQuery: Highlight Gridview Rows with Checkbox

Im learning and experimenting with jQuery and ASP.NET. Below is a simple solution I created to highlight rows in a gridview by clicking on a checkbox next to the row.

jQuery: Styling DropDownList Alternating Items (Rows)

In the following example, I will show how you can style any asp:dropdownlist very easily.

The example demonstrates how you can change alternating row items background color, using the fadeTo() to add a nice touch in the dropdownlist. You can change alt rows with a couple lines.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.
