Master pages in ASP.NET 2.0 solve a problem many Web developers have been solving on their own with a variety of techniques for years - providing a single master template for an entire site. This article covers the details of master pages, discussing their usage and implementation and how they are a natural evolution of custom techniques developers are using today.

In my masterpage I have a menu with buttons. I want the buttons to do something after click. It works but I have to click twice on the button, why? What do I have to do to just to click once?
I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised
layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not
showing the miniconsole.
When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.
How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?
I know there is a field you can check when you edit the properties of a Master Page in the Master Page Gallery to set a Master Page to hidden but ... can anyone think of a way to programmatically hide specific Master Pages from the Site Master Page Settings
Maybe this should be two questions:
I have a site which has restricted access. Access is controlled via session variables. There are a lot of pages to the site so I was going to check for the session variable via the page load event in my mater page. However, on certain pages I use the session variable in that pages page load event. This throws an error when the session doesn't exist, but what I want is the master page's page load to fire first.Does anyone know how I could achieve this?
I'm trying to set the culture and UIculture for a user if he/she is an English speaker. I have the following code in my masterpage's .vb file, but nothing happens when I run the page in the browser. What am I doing wrong?
If Session("lang") = "en" Then
Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New Globalization.CultureInfo("en")
Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = New Globalization.CultureInfo("en-GB")
Also, I wonder if this
I have stapled this feature (using feature stapling concept) to the “SPSPERS” (personal site) site definition.
The custom master page is displayed on the creation of new personal sites. On feature deactivation, I am looping through all the personal sites (as the feature is deployed on the root site) and pointing the master URL back to v4.master. But when I retract
the solution and browse to the personal site, I am getting a “404 File not found” error. But am able to view the settings page by typing the URL.
I make a copy of V4.masterpage ,rename it as myv4.masterpage, and modify it .
then right-click myv4.masterpage and choose 'set as default masterpage'.
but when i open my site, the pages don't change, and create a new page,it still the old look.
Shouldn't it do that?
I have developed a website using jquery. Used Master page with child pages. I used document.ready on both master and child page. Now each and every thing is working fine in chrome and internet explorer. But in firefox, only the documnet.ready funciton works file in master page but does not work in child page.
for reference, you can check www.instruments.com.pk. You will see that it works fine in chrome and IE while child content does not load in firefox.
Any help will be appreciated.
