SQL Server Express - local server is not getting up

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello guys,

I've been used SQL Server 2008 Express edition since Jan-10 and it was working very fine - I've it installed locally in my notebook.

But since last Monday (20-Sep) I can't log in my local sever. I don't know if any automatically corporate Windows update happened and changed my Windows Firewall or anything like that, but my issue is that I can't log in there.

I've re-imaged my machine and re-install SSE edition, but I still can't log in. There is no local server available in my machine. It used to SQLExpress - the default server name for all SSE edition instalation.

Do you know what should I do to fix it?
I've looked up the forum, but I din't get sucess.

I really appreciate any help/suggestion.

Thank you in advanced,
Luis

How to connect to local instance of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express ?

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

i tried connecting to local machine using :

.\sqlexpress, (local)\sqlexpress, or .\SQLExpress, MyPCNAME\SQLExpress

nothing is working, getting this error:

Can't Create ODBC to Local SQL Server Express 2008

Hello. I have SQL Server Express 2008 SP1 LOCALLY on my Windows XP Professional SP3 box. I have databases already created in Access 2007 that I imported into SQL. Now I want to keep the front end Access forms for data entry but have them connect to the databases in SQL. What I can't seem to do is connect from Access to the SQL db's because I can't create the ODBC connection. When I try to connect, I get the following two 'Connection failed' errors: 1. SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 10061 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. 2. SQLState: 'HYT00' SQL Server Error: 0 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Login timeout expired Additionally, this information may help. 1. Windows firewall is turned off. 2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocols for SQLEXPRESS, Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP are all 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). 3. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration > Client Protocols, the above three are also 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). Double-clicking TCP/IP tells me that the default port is 1433. 4. Running "netstat -ano", I see no entries for [myIPaddress]:1433.

Please Help Installing SQL Management Studio (not Express) w/ local SQL Server Express

I have recently formatted my hard drive and over the past few days I've been reloading my software.  I have installed on my machine SQL Server Express 2005 SP3.  I prefer to have SQL Express running on my development machine because that is what my customers primarily use.  I also have a full MSDN license, and I would need to install SQL Management Studio 2005.  However, when I download the SQL Server 2005 Developer ISO from MSDN, and run the setup file I get an error message that states: Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exists on the machine.  To proceed, uninstall the higher version and then run Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup. I would assume the problem is that the copy of SQL Server - Dev Edition that is available through my MSDN subscription is using an earlier version of SQL Server 2005 (most likely the version prior to SP1.)  I would just unistall SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 and reinstall it with out any service pack updates.  The problem is that I also see within my Add or Remove Programs list  four SQL Server 2008 R2 entries, that I believe were installed when I installed Visual Studio Pro 2010 (they are, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Framework, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Project, Microsoft SQL Server 20

Server 2008 R2 Express accepts only local connections?

My question SQL Server 2008 R2 Express accepts only local connections? [closed] was closed unanswered and my account (with the same username/nick vgv8) was banned in 1 min without any warning and notification from all StackExchange sites (StackOverFlow.com, ServerFault.com, SuperUser.com). I could not understand can MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express  accept remote connections? And what are local connections - in the same subnetwork, AD, workgroup, the same machine?

Creating DSN for local machine in SQL Server Express 2005

Good evening,

This is my first time with SQL Server, so please forgive me if this is a ridiculous question:

I'm trying to create a DSN so I can connect up to SQL Server Express 2005 on my laptop/local machine. I'm attempting to connect via Windows NT authentication. I've tried 'Named Pipes' and TCP/IP settings but am not able to connect. I keep getting an error that states:

SQLState: '01000'

SQL Server Error: 2

Connection failed

SQLState: '08001'

SQL Server Error: 17

SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Is the server created by just installing SQL Server 2005, or is there something additional I need to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

how to configure sql server express for local use only

I recently downloaded and installed sql server express.    After I exited the program, the service is still running and has slowed down my machine.   I don't intend to have other machines connect with this sql server, nor do I need it running all the time.

How do I configure it so that it doesn't slow down my machine when not in use?  Should I shutdown sql server? If yes,  how do I do that besides restarting windows?

Thank you for answering.

Can't connect to local SQL Server 2008 Express edition

Hi. I'm on Win7 64 bit and have installed SQL 2008 Express 64 bit. The named instance is "sqlexpress" but when using the SQL Server Management Studio 2005, it won't let me connect. It doesn't see it. When I type in the name and try to connect via windows auth (having added myself as an admin account), it gives this error:

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

Problem
One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

Solution
If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Pick up old local users on new server with new local users with same name

Hi, All!

I has old server with name "test", worked with SQL server 2008 and Sharepoint 2007 SP2. There was five users like "user1", "user2", etc. They have content on main page "http://test" and some data at mysite host "http://test:81". Well I create new server with the same name "test", create all users "user1", "user2", etc, then i add them to shared services profiles with the same names like in old server. Then from old server backup content base from MS SQL server for applications on 80 and 81 port, and restore them on new server. Then I make commands "stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://test -databasename wss_content_80" and "stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://test:81 -databasename wss_content_81". Then I delete databases which created when i create new web applications from sharepoint central administration. and did iisreset. Well all data and settings picked up, BUT all user ID were old. So question is: how i can compare old users to new? I want to compare old and new users everywhere in DBs wss_content_80 and wss_content_81. Like replace old ID with new ID

Multiple XML files into SQL SERVER Express 2005

Hello. I am familiar with classic ASP and use this with MS SQL SERVER EXPRESS. I have an SQL table and want to import multiple XML files into this on a daily basis. I currently have 3 files, transferdata.vbs which loops through the XML files. FAQschema.xml which maps XML to the SQL database and test.xml shows the xml in the test file. My SQL table is called EnqOrd id (int), Debitor (varchar), PurchaseDate (varchar)     transferdata.vbs set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkLoad") objBL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=XXXXXX\XXXXX; Initial Catalog=XXXX; User ID=XXXXX; Password=XXXXXX" objBL.ErrorLogFile = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\error.log" ' Here is the path to your XML files Const path = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\XML\" Dim Text, Title, oFile Dim fso, oFolder, oFiles, wsh ' Object variables Text = "Folder " Title = "XML Files" Set wsh = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Create FileSystemObject object to access the file system.
