DTS on sql server 2000 and 2005

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Here at work most of us have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 installed on our machines. When one of us creates a 2000 DTS package on our machine, it cannot be opened on on any other machine with the same setup. It will only open on the machine where it was created. We have had to use a machine that has only a 2000 installation in order to create DTS packages that can be opened on other machines.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks,

MikeG

Migration from 2000 to 2005 SQL Server Tips and precaustions

Hi All,

Request to provide the tips and details for migrating data from SQL 2000 to 2005.

Thanks in advance

How to migrate linked server configuration SQL 2000 and 2005?

I plan to migrate a SQL 2000 instance with everything in it to another SQL2000 server, and eventually in the future to SQL 2005.

I've pretty much figured out how to migrate everything execept the linked server configuration (there're many linked servers configured in the old server with different security credentials).  I'm wondering if there's way I can save the linked server configuration and restore it to the other server.

Thanks much.

Ed

SQL 2008 R2: Where to get all of the locks the way we used to get them in SQL server 2005 - OR 2000?

Hi,

In SQL server 2000 and 2005, I used to have a nice practical list of all SQL Server sessions and list of locks with useful details make troubleshooting quite easy.

In SQL Server 2008 list of locks are taken out from the “Management” section of SSMS and there is a clumsy “Activity Monitor” option which doesn’t provide information about sessions and locks in the nice way we used to have in SSMS 2005.

Using SSMS 2008, Is there any way to get the same list of locks and sessions similar to what we had in SSMS 2005?

Thank you

SQL Server 2005 in 2000 compatibility mode/turn off - what are the effects?

I researched this previously, but it's been months and I'm hoping someone has a handy link of reliable information. Given the scenario:

1) currently have sql server 2000
2) upgrade to sql 2005
3) sql 2000 compatibility mode is turned on

months go by inserting and updating data

4) what happens to existing tables and data when you turn OFF 2000 compatibility (to take advantage of varchar(max) and other stuff?

Is there a reliable list somewhere? any drops and recreation of columns? any butchered or loss of data? How reliable is the SQL Upgrade Advisor ?

What about sp_dbcmptlevel (Transact-SQL) for 2005 and ALTER DATABASE Compatibility Level (Transact-SQL) for 2008?

All of this assumes very large existing tables/databases from years of data storage...with stored procs and indices, etc...

Has anyone actually done this? (Turned off sql2000 compatibility on a database with data)

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:

How to save Unicode in SQL Server 2005

I am using google transliteration to display the text in Hindi/Tamil
etc.

I tried to store the text appear as Hindi from textarea in an nvarchar
field of database (SQL Server 2005) , the text saved as "???????".

After retireving text from the same it display the text as "???????".

Can anyone help me how to store and retrieve the actual data from SQL
Server 2005?

I am using ASP.net,VB.Net and SQL Server 2005

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?
