Analysis Services Server Administrators - Name Corruption

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello everyone,

I'm using SQL Server 20008 Standard. For reasons we yet don't know, from time to time, server administrator's metadata is lost. Please look at the image below.

I'd like to know if anyone knows why this could be happening, with problem fixing recommendations as well :)

Regards,

Diego.

SQL Server 2005: Unearth the New Data Mining Features of Analysis Services 2005

In SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services you'll find new algorithms, enhancements to existing algorithms, and more than a dozen added visualizations to help you get a handle on your data relationships. Plus, enhancements to the Data Mining Extensions to SQL along with OLAP, DTS, and Reporting Services integration make it possible to create a new breed of intelligent apps with embedded data mining technology. Here the author explains it all.

OLAP: Build an OLAP Reporting App in ASP.NET Using SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services and Office XP

Many organizations analyze their business-critical data using Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology. OLAP-based data mining provides a way to query multidimensional data sets and drill down into the data to find patterns. ASP.NET and the Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC) enable Web-based OLAP reporting. The OWC controls include PivotTable and Chart components that can be embedded in a Web page and scripted by programmers. In this article, the authors build a Web-based OLAP reporting app using ASP.NET, OWC, and SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services to illustrate the process.

SQL Server Analysis Services Filter web part.

Hi all In a NTLM farm with 1 SharePoint and 1 SQL server, I am using clamis based authentication for Excel Services app in SharePoint Server 2010. While all Excel documents work, I get error on "SQL Server Analysis Services Filter" web part. The filter works when I am logged on the sharepoint server and open the Intranet to use it, but doesn't work if I reach the Intranet by not logging on the SharePoint server. The error I get is on the filter web part: "An error occured while retrieving filter values (The connection either timed out or was lost). Anyone else that have had the same problem? Any ideas to troubleshoot? :) Regards

How Do I Set Server Administration Privileges on Analysis Services Instance (Microsoft SQL Server 20

Hello. I need to do Association Analysis on a company KPI to determine its key influencers - among other things. This is my first attempt ever and I have installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Add-Ins for Office 2007. I also have SQL Server 2005 installed on my laptop. I chose the "Use an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services that I administer" and launched the Server Configuration Utility. I am advised that I will need server administrator provileges on the Analysis Services instance that I am about to configure. The defaulted server name is localhost. Indeed I get an error message when I try to advance: "Unable to discover metadata on the server 'localhost'. User 'Maigida-PC\Maigida' needs to be administrator of the server to run the configuration tool" Help me please: How Do I Set Server Administration Privileges on Analysis Services Instance to myself on a local server on my laptop? I need to master DM in Excel 2007. Deep regards.

SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services - Performance of Excel Pivot Tables

Hi, I've several cubes available for several users within my organization. I've the SQL Server 2005 and the Analysis Services running on the same machine but it has 30Gb of RAM, 8 processors and a quick enouth disk. The problems is that i've some automatic processes that "build" some excel reports and the users use pivot tables with olap connections to the cubes regularly. I've noticed that the excel "locks" when the user is drilling down the data and the server has only one processor (there are 8...) at 100%... Is there a way to make the analysis services use the maximum processing capacity that is available? The users are complaining about the slowness of the cubes... Thanks in advance Hugo

SQL Server 2008 R2 \ Analysis Services Purchasing

If a person wants to experience with Analysis Services (not as a trial) for his personal use, does it mean that the cheapest way is to purchase a "SQL Server Standard" license for $898?

http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/pricing.aspx

Another option is ($2,607.55):

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/SQL-Server-2008-R2-Standard-Edition-32-bit-10-Client-Access-Licenses-/product/99B2882D

Is there a way to get a cheaper version of Analysis Services + SQL Server (maybe along with free versions such as "SQL Server Compact" and "SQL Server Express")?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services & Excel 2003 Add-in

I've been working with SQL Server 2000 AS cubes and presenting them in pivot-tables in Excel 2003 with no problems.

I was recently looking at other BI tools I could use and stumbled across the Excel Add-In for Analysis Services, which adds a Cube Analysis menu to Excel and seems to have lots of functionality I could use.

But! It's no longer supported by Microsoft.

I managed to get a download of it from www.download.com and searched for help and I have some good documents to help me understand how to use it, but my problem is that it just doesn't work! I've uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted, but to no avail.

I can connect to my data source and cube and I can view the dimensions and measures, but when I click apply on them and select the area of the report to put them into, they just don't appear. I can briefly see an EMBED command appear in the formula bar and then disappear, but nothing happens!

I've been through all the trouble-shooting and checked the settings of Excel as requested, but nothing works.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions as to how to fix it?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services - Syncronization Speed Issues

We are experiencing a severe performance issue when syncronizing cubes using R2. We have 2 sets of machines that we are experiencing varied performance and speed when syncronizing cubes.

Test Server Pair 1
----------------------------------
Dell R710, 72GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R900, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 3 Drives in Raid 5 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU9 Enterprise (64bit). The performance of the cube syncronization is slow but manageable.

Test Server Pair 2
----------------------------------
Dell R710, 96GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R910, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 14 Drives in Raid 10 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 R2 CU2 Enterprise (64bit). This pair of servers running SQL 2008 R2 syncronize very slowly.  The process about 70-80 percent slower than the first pair. Our cubes that we syncronize are very large in size (some are 500-800GB in size) and for that reason con

The connected user is not an Analysis Services server administrator

Hi All,

Recently I took over a laptop which belonged to a collegae of mine who allready installed SQL 2008 R2 Developer Edition. Up till now there seemed to be no need to re-install. However yesterday I tried to connect to the AS server to update it's properties and ran into this message:

The connected user is not an Analysis Services server administrator. Only an administrator can make changes to server properties. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.ManagementDialogs).

The thing is that I'm an administrator on this laptop, but with the above limitation simply cannot figure out how to grant AS administrative rights to myself. Any clues/workarounds on this ?

Kind regards,

Cees

Running licensed SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services with SQL Server Express editon?

Hi,

We have a SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition. We've also installed Analysis Services and are using cubes.

Is it possible to have the Analysis Services on another server, to take some of the load of the "relation engine" server?

Do we need a relation engine on this server? Will SQL express be sufficient for this?

Thank you,

Marcel
