Users (even site collection administrator) unable to see minor versions in document libraries

I have document libraries with the following settings: major & minor versioning enabled, checkout required & 'only users who can edit items' can see draft (minor) items. The problem is when a user uploads a document (the first document), the library appears empty. However, looking at the summary in 'view all site content' we see that the number of items in the list has incremented by 1. Typically, if the user selects explorer view they can also see the document they just uploaded.

Similar behaviour occurs using the 'New document' option. Before checking in the document for this first time it is visible in the library. If it is checked in as v 0.1 it 'disappears' if it is checked in as v 1.0 it is visible.

I have noticed that if I toggle the Draft Item Security setting by setting it to 'any user who can read items' then set it back immediately to 'only users who can edit items' that the previously hidden items become visible. And any new minor versions created subsequently are also displayed correctly. I can of course do this for existing libraries, but if new libraries are created based on my template this behaviour reoccurs.

Has anyone seen this before?

Sharepoint 2007-Maximum document libraries that can be added to Linked Data Source

I have a requirement as below:

1. I need to create a web part which allows users to filter the document library columns based on their needs.

2. There are around 10 document libraries with around 11,000 files and I linked them using Linked Data Source.

3. I tried to create a DVWP. It inserted all the records thought but I am not able to apply the Data View properties like 'Filter', 'Sort' and 'Group'.

Is there a limit to the number of records that can be added to a linked data source. If so how many?

Is there any other way we can do it?

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

SharePoint Document Libraries and Horrors Oh My

I thought I would capture a few ideas around document libraries and share with the rest of the class. These are not "best practices" as I don't want to sound too preachy so let's call them "pretty good practices that you might want to consider if you have some time" (which is far too long for a blog title, hence the one I came up with is going to have to do). SharePoint Fight Club The first rule of SharePoint. I want you to repeat after me. "SharePoint Document Libraries are not file shares." Good. Now say it again. Good. Remember this, above all other things we're going to talk about here, and you'll be golden. Document Libraries are not File Shares I have to repeat this here because it is key. If your users are asking you to put a file share into SharePoint then you need to beat them upside the head when they talk about "replicating the folder structure" or "like for like" or "make it just like *that* (and points to file share)". If you really must make some kind of analogy and your audience knows something about databases (even Access), rather than saying document libraries are like file shares say "document libraries are like databases". While SharePoint sits on top of a database it's kind of irrelevant what the backing store is (side note, Dear Microsoft, please make a pluggable store for SharePoint in the next version) a list or document library is pretty

Sharepoint Workflow To Shoot Email Only When Folder Is Created In Document Library

Hi, Can anyone help me with the below issue, I am facing this from so long and didn’t figure out solution yet for the same. :( I want to send an email through SharePoint designer workflow only when a folder is created in document library (not file uploaded/updated event). Please provide me solution about how I can achieve this through SharePoint designer as don’t have enough coding acquaintance.

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

SP2010 - move libraries from a site in one site collection to a site on a different site collection

can this be done simply through 1) opening sitecollectionA.siteA in windows explorer 2) opening sitecollectionB.siteA in windows explorer 3) copying library in 1) to location in 2) Is this best practice or is there an OOTB option to achieve this ? could SharePoint WorkSpace be used ? thanks and regards, Counie

Use Report Builder 3.0 with SharePoint site using a port number

We are currently working with SSRS R2 and SharePoint 2010.  SharePoint 2010 has been deployed a multitenant solution.  SharePoint and SSRS are on separate servers.  We have successfully integrated the two products but are experiencing some anomolies.  The SharePoint site we are deploying to uses a port number (e.g. http://mysharepointsvr:2222).  When you launch Report Builder from this site, it does not open connected to a Report Server.  When you try to connect to a Report Server the obvious choice is to put in http://mysharepointsvr:2222 for the Report Server service.  However, this does not work.  We are getting the following error: Connection Failed.  Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL, 'http://mysharepointsvr:2222'.  Make sure the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server. However, if we use the SharePoint address without the port number it will connect.  This does not work as the SharePoint port determines which site we are directed to for resources.  In our case, we need to be able to browse the folders on port 2222 not port 80 (default).  As far as the error above is concerned, we are able to browse to the report server (http://sql101/reportserver) and see all of the SharePoint sites.  In all cases, identical credentials are being u

SharePoint 2010 new site collection display blank page

I'm using Windows Vista SP2 and trying to learn Sharepoint 2010. I'm new to Sharepoint and I'm sorry if I'm asking something very simple. I've successfully installed Sharepoint foundation 2010 and VS 2010. According to the installation instruction if the installation is successful I should see the new sharepoint website home page or ask for login info which will take to the home page. But for me it displayed a blank web page. I was able to get to Sharepoint Central administration page by clicking the browse option from IIS, it asked me login info and when I provided that I was able to see the Sharepoint central administration page. Now I am trying to create a new site collection, it is succesfully creating the new site collection and showing the link, but when I access the link I see a blank webpage. I think it is some permission issue and if the program prompts login, it should work, but how can I get to the login window or how can I see the home page and not a blank page? Thanks

Version number syncronisation between document libraries

When I perform a Move or Copy operation from one Document Library to another in SP 2010 (using Send To or Manage Copies feature) SP resets the version number to 0.1 even if the version number in the source library is 4.2 (for example). All other Metadata is copied correctly. Is their anyway to keep version numbers in sync between document libraries? Seems like quite an obvious requirement to me but could not see any other info on the net about this.. thanks in advance

SharePoint Users Behind a Forefront TMG Server Cannot Access Explorer View in Document Libraries

SharePoint server via a Forefront TMG server in a separate sub-domain. These users cannot access Explorer View in Document Libraries nor can they map a drive to the SharePoint directory structure, as users who are in the same sub-domain as the SharePoint server can. How do I setup SharePoint and the TMG server so that these users can map a drive to the SharePoint site? Office SharePoint 2007 SP2 Windows 2008 Server SP2

Maximum number of items in a SharePoint 2010 list

Hi, Is there a recommended maximum number of items that can go into a SharePoint 2010 list? I seem to recall that earlier versions seemed to have performance problems with more than 2000 items. I have a table that has some 50,000 records and would love to convert it into a list.   Thanks John JohnSpilker
