sql express 2008 64bit, will this be a problem?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi, I'm developing a site on sql express 2008 64bit + VS 2010 Express. Then, I realize that when it is done, the hosting maybe only provide 32bit server.  Will this be a problem? Do I have to do extra steps, for example, convert the 64bit sql DB file to 32bit SQL DB file, then can attach to the server?

Deploying problem with SQL Express 2008 R2

Scientific software package works fine with SQL Express 2008 R2 on developing (mother) PC and Admin login mode, but difficulties are found elsewhere during installing and deploying on the client PCs.  We have used from year 2000 BDE (Borland Database Engine), which worked fine until now, but recently customers had been installing problems with Vista, Windows 7 and the local administration rights or permissions.   Thus I thought to test NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE authentication, as this system is hopefully working again decades with coming new Windows versions. As not need to touch databases, ADO and authentication matters during last decade, I’m newbie with those topics.  Worked now few days with this problem, installed and unistalled SQL servers according to instructions, tested different connecting strings and now cannot found correction.  Solution is maybe and hopefully simple.   Attached is log data cut from (old and many times corrected) the main mother XP platform in Admin and Client (Guest) modes.  Same tests are done also with fresh XP installation on VirtualBox.  Used connecting strings are presented inside log files:           Main mother XP at Admin login:   2010-08-20 08:24:45.82 Server      Server local connection provider is ready to accept connection on [ \\.\pip

Problem connecting to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express from Access 2007

I have a problem with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with MS Access 2007. I am running Windows 7 with 8 gigs memory. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Do I now need to install SP1 because I am running with Windows 7? I can open SQL Server using the Management Screen but I cannot connect to MS Access 2007 using SQL Server Express as the database. When trying to connect to SQL Server from Access 2007, I keep getting the message that SQL Server 2005 cannot be found. It will not allow me to sign onto sql server 2008 stating that it cannot be found. Do I have to now run the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1? Is there an upgrade to MS Access 2007 which will allow me to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Express?

Can't enable filestream on SQL Server 2008 Express 64bit under Win 7(64 bit WOW)

I have a newbie question.  I am running Win7(64 bit WOW). I installed SQL Server 2008 Express R2 (64 bit), but when I go to enable filestream, it reports that my edition of SQL Server does not support filestream.  I thought that the 64 bit edition would.  It says to install SQL Server 2008 64 bit.  Am I correct that that is not a free download?  Do I have any other options?

Upgraded to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64bit and now all my VS2010 db apps won't run

I am running WIN764bit, VS2010 and just "upgraded" from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64 bit.  When I went back into VS2010 and tried to run and test several database apps that I have developed, I find that I keep getting the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instrance".  I have read a lot of threads here but I am not getting anywhere.  I can create a new SQL Server database, but can't find any of my existing .dbo connections and can't open any of the .mdf's from within Server Explorer (VS2010).  Any ideas? BTW the install went fine. And I have User Instance set to True in VS2010.

Problem uninstalling or reinstalling SQL Server 2008 Express

Hi all, as still a novice user, I am looking for some advise on a problem I am currently having with SQL Server 2008 Express. Thanks in advance.

I had a copy of SQL Server 2008 Express installed on my XP machine. Recently I tried to uninstall it, so that I can install a clean copy of 2008 R2. The uninstallation failed halfway, and subsequently, the SQL server does not start or even allow me to reinstall/uninstall or put in the Microsoft updates meant for the SQL Server 2008 express.

Need advice on how to remove it cleanly, and I do not require any of the database on the current installation. Appreciate any advice.

Below is a copy SQL Server Error Log when I tried to redo the uninstallation:

Trying to install SQL Management Studio Express 2008 64bit

I have VS2010 installed recently on a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop, SQL Express is running fine, but now i want to install Management Studio Express 2008 and it is not working.

I am using file: SQLManagementStudio_x64-ENU.exe

When I run it, it says it has "known compatibility issues". It says afterwards i need to install SQL Server SP1. I click Run Program, it extracts some files, then it come up with a window titled "SQL Server Installation Center"; but there is nothing having to do with Management Studio Express on any of the options. I have searched around the internet to know that this is a recurring problem, but i can not seem to find anyone that has an answer.

How do i get this to install?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Express 64bit Linked Server

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit.
Sql Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services 64bit.

I am converting an Access 2000 database to SQL Server. I developed a script that creates a linked server to import the data into SQL Server and manipulate it into the new structure. All works well on my 32 bit developement machine.

We just had the above new server built. The linked server is created without error, but trying to access the data in the Access database results in the error

'OLE DB provider Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured to run in single-threaded apartment mode."

In searching, it seems that there is no 64 bit provider for jet.

Once the new system is up and running, the application also requires some regular imports of Access and Excel files, so this is not a one-time problem.

I can convert all Access and Excel files to 2007 version (ACE) if needed. However, I did try adding a linked server using the ACE provider and got the following error when trying to access the linked server

The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" has not been registered. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7403)

What are my options?

Do I need to uninstall 64bit SQL and install 32bit?

sql server express 2008 problem

We just recently switched from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. I have an application which uses sql express database locally. The problem is after installing new Visual Studio, I can't access the Sql Server 2008 express. When I try to create a new database, or change the existing one, I get following message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, Error 0 - No connection could be made because target machine is actively refused it.)

When I check the sqlexpress windows service, it is stopped. If I try to enable it, it runs for a few seconds and then stops again.

SQL Server Express 2008 vista x64 installation rpc problem

Hi Folks,

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Express in a brand new workstation with Vista Business x64 and I am keep on getting this error:

"The following error has ocurred: The RPC server is unavailable..."

At the same time this alert message is displayed:

"Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now"

After a while (~1 minute) the computer reboots, but I am not able to log on as usual. I have to reboot manually the computer in "safe mode" first.

Trying to reduce the problem I reinstalled the OS and only run the recommended Windows updates. Other than that the computer is in the absolute initial state. (The firewall is not the problem since I already tried it after disabling it)

Any clue !!!!!

Problem remotely connecting to sql server 2008 express

I am trying to connect to sql server 2008 express remotely from visual studio 2010. On the server, I've enabled the sql browser service, enabled the TCP/IP and named pipes protocols. Also for firewall I added exceptions for the sqlserver and sqlbrowser instances. I tried connecting to the server through telnet by specifying the ip and port and it worked. But when I try connecting from visual studio through sql client I get the following error:

Timeout expired, the timeout period ellapsed prior to the completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Thank you,

Uninstalling problem with SQL 2008 R2 Express

I've been trying to uninstall SQL 2008 R2 but no luck. (try to install the Full version instead)

It gives me an error message like when I try to uninstall "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup (English)" from Control Panel (Win7 Pro).

"Warning 26003. MS Server 2008 R2 Setup Support Files cannot be uninstalled because the following products are installed:

SQL Server 2008 R2 Common Files

SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine Shared"

If I click OK,

it says something like "Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package "sqlsupport.msi"

at this point, it wouldn't let me uninstall nor reinstall..

Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you!
