Why is it not recommended to backup IIS metadata?

In the following technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663490.aspx I found the following statement "We do not recommend that you use IIS metabase backup to protect your IIS settings. Instead, document all IIS configurations for each Web server by using a tool that provides the configuration monitoring you want, such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.   I wonder what was the reason for this recommendation and how it would impact the SharePoint if you perform backup. I might think that it's due to SharePoint modification of IIS metabase during recovery, but can't find anything to prove it SharePoint 2007 - 2010 Tips & Tricks Portal | Microsoft MVP | My Blog about Information Management | My twitter

Recommended disk setup

Hi All - I have a brand new server that will be running Windows 2008 STD and SQL 2005 Std.  I have 2 160 GB disks and 2 x 500 GB.  I am planning on mirroring the equal sized disks so I will have 160 GB and 500GB. I am looking for recommendations on how to best split up the OS, DBs and logs.  I am not constrained on space as I have numerous small DBs that will be migrated from an ancient server. Thanks in advance.   Mark

What is the recommended format for vector icons in resource dictionary?

It seems that Expression Design wants to export vector graphics in resource dictionary format as DrawingBrushes.  These are a bit of a pain to use in something like a MenuItem.Icon.  So I have been converting the DrawingBrushes to DrawingImages.  The only downside I've run into so far is that I can't figure out how to force the DrawingImage to be a certain size say 20x20 where the content may not take up that whole size.  The issue is that when you put these vector icons on a toolbar and you want the images to align, it is tricky when each icon is a slightly different height.

Databases running in compatibility range, upgrade recommended.

Recommended statistic software for asp.net apps?

I'm looking for some kind of statistic software to apply to my web application software. It is statistic software showing how many have visted the site per day/month etc...

I've been looking into Google Analytics, but fail to use it as my sites are not accessed via domain name, but instead via ip.
Other problems with GA is that we have to go through each and every webpage and add the javascript code. In addition keeping track of which tracking code etc are being used for specific clients can create chaos in the source control. Solution to that is we are wondering if it's possible to place the javascript in a .js file and execute it on for example page load event

Hence we are looking for alternatives for GA, which are easy to implement, any suggestions?

Panel Layout and Visual Studio issue - what is recommended path?

I am working with .NET 3.5 (VS 2008). In one of my tabs, I have added two panels. Each panel takes up the whole tab area (dock=full).  At any one time only one panel is visible. Depending on what the user does, one panel will be hidden while the other is visible.  My problem is that when I am in Visual Studio in the design mode, I can only see the panel that was added last.  The first panel is below that, so I can't work with the panel to add other components (buttons, labels, ect).  I tried to right-click the top panel and select "Send to back" but that does not make the bottom panel visible.  The only thing I can do is undock the top panel and move it to the side while I work on the underneath panel.

Does anyone know of a better way to access the underneath panel in design mode or if there is a more appropriate way to create stacked panels (think deck of cards).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - Peter

Microsoft BI Books

I've been looking for a book that provides a good overview of all the tools available from Microsoft regarding BI and have found the following. Has anyone read any one (or two) of these books? If you have what is yout thoughts?
  • Smart Business Intelligence Solutions With Microsoft SQL Server 2008
  • The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit: With SQL Server 2005 And The Microsoft Business Intelligence Toolset
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Business Intelligence: Reporting, Analysis, and Measurement from the Desktop
I think the last one would be good to have as a reference for analytical purposes, but which one would be the recommend one between the first two? Ideally I'm looking for books that would illistrate industry best practices regarding the implementatio nand design of data warehouses (book 1 & 2) and then the tools used to interpret the data.
