SQL Express and ASP.NET login

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I dont know where to start, but I have a simple issue that you may be able to resolve.

I have a SQL database that contains a table with user name  / password / Account level in it.

What I am trying to do is to create a Login page that will use this database and table to authenticate the login.

I have spent some time looking about for an example, and the nearest that I have found is for an access Database, but I really need this to work with SQL.

Please can you give me some clues as soon as possible, as this is quite important to me.

Many thanks,

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

Configuring SQL Express -- getting login failed exception

I have a machine with Windows XP Pro w/SP 2, IIS, SQL Server Express and Visual Studio 2005 installed.  When I attempt to open a database from an ASPX page, I'm getting an exception with the message: "Cannot open database "Tasks" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'MYDEV\ASPNET'." I've searched the web and found a number of pages that talk about the "Login failed for MACHINE\ASPNET" issue, but I didn't find any with a solution.  For your information (in case it makes any difference), the computer is connected to a domain.  And the authentication methods for the virtual directory (in IIS) is configured for "Anonymous access" and "Integrated Windows authentication." Does anyone know how to configure SQL Server Express (or is it IIS?) so the web page can access the database? RichardR

Can not login to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

I installed Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 express edition in a 64 bit windows 7 version. While installing applications, it showed error like cannot login using username sa which I ignored and continued installation. After installation is over, I tried to login SQL Server Management Studio and both SQL server authentication and Windows authentication failed. Can you please let me know 1. What is the default user name of SQL server express? 2. I also tried to select the configue option and there it is displaying Install SQL server 2008 R2. But I am quite sure I installed it.   Please help since I am very new to windows and dot net. I was basically a LAMP guy and thought to start learning dot net and windows technologies. SQL 2005 Express login

I have an XP machine with SQL Express SP3.  When i attach an application database, I can open it without any problem.  However, after rebooting the computer I get 'file does not exist or you do not have a right to open the file" message.  How can i overcome this issue?

Can I have an SQL Express database open in VS2010E along with the website? "Login failed for user ..

Hi, as the topic says..Whenever I have my database open in Visual Studio 2010 Express, I get this error:Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool'.Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool'.

Error Installing SQL Server 2008 Express: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission

I have tried installing SQL Server 2008 multiple times on my machine, and I always receive this error about 3/4 of the way through: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.

I have tried installing both SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools and SQL Server 2008 with Advanced Services, and they both fail the same way. I am trying to do a new stand-alone installation.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Looking into the error, some forums say I have to install it from THE Administrator account, and not an account with administrator permissions; it also cannot be in Safe Mode, because then the Windows Installer won't work. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to login to the Administrator account. I can go to the home login screen, do ctrl+alt+del twice, and attempt to login to the Administrator account, but I receive this error: Unable to Log You on because of an Account Restriction.

Other forums say that in the Server Configuration section, all you have to do is provide the username and a strong password from an administrative account on the computer, and it doesn't have to be THE Administrator. Well, I did that, but for some reason it doesn't recognize my username and passw

Unable to login to express 2008 remotely

I am using mssql express 2008 on a remote server.  I can VPN into the server and log on via my local account (Michael) with the appropriate password in either Windows mode or SQL mode.  I cannot log in from my remote client which is VPNed in.  The error is "Password mismatch".  I have set the user password for 'Michael" on the server as well as on the local machine but still no luck.  Where is the password that it is attempting to match?

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

I thought this would be simple... Trying to create a login does an ajax check before submit

I have the standard .net login control that is working.  (Still learning .net after 15yrs of classic)

What I want to do is OnButtonClick run a javascript function (to do an ajax call to the db to check if login is valid or not) and if it returns true, then submit the form normally, else don't submit. The piece that I can't figure out, is how to correctly override the default click even to hit my JS routine and then submit the form properly afterwards.

Thanks ahead of time

How to modify the login control

I'd like to record more information than the default control allows as well as perform actions with the input when the form is submitted but I'm having trouble figuring out how.

So firstly, if I want to record the middlename for example, how would I do that, and by default, where would it go if anywhere?
When the form is submitted, I'd like to take specific input, such as just the middlename for example, and write some linq to sql code to specify when and how it's stored.
In what event would I put this code?

create user wizard login error message dont show in a message box?

i am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new user

registers. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.

there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.

If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.

It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already exists

from the create user wizard membership  UserName and Password Textboxes

is it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?

Using network login

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Login Adpater

I am having problems getting the adpaters to work.  The Whitepaper references a vsi to install but the link to download does not contain the vsi - just source for the CSSFriendly kit.  The kit is missing the css/import.css file also.

Anyway, I fumbled around and was able to get the menu working but I cannot figure out how to specify the css class for the login control.  With the CSSFriendlyAdparters.browser file in my project, I lost all styles and most of the features of the login control.  The menu uses cssselectorclass but I tried that server tag on the <asp:login> and it did not work.  The original cssclass attribute does not seem to do anything either.

Can someone point to some documentation on how to use these tags and integrate with the CSSFriendly.dll adpaters.

Thank you,
