"The Database Engine instance you selected is not valid for this edition of Reporting Services" erro

Hi there, I have developed some reports using Visual Studio and everything worked fine in the office. Now I'm trying to deploy them on my customer PCs but this process keeps failing. These reports can be built and even previewed within Visual Studio but they cannot be deployed. Here is the error message I get: ----------------------------------------- The feature: "The Database Engine instance you selected is not valid for this edition of Reporting Services. The Database Engine does not meet edition requirements for report data sources or the report server database." is not supported in this edition of reporting services. ---------------------------------------- The versions of the software on my customer machines are: SQL Server Enterprise 9.0.3282 SQL Server 2005 Management Studio 9.00.4035 SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Designers 9.00.4035.00 Visual Studio 2005 8.0.50727.42 I believe that changing the edition of the Reporting Services from Designers to Enterprise should fix the deployment error but I did not find a way or setup files to do so. Many thanks in advance for your help!

MOSS SP2 Fails "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database."

While upgrading MOSS 2007 SP1, IU to the newly released SP2 - I get the error "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database."   This happens when attempting to run the WSS SP2 install and it won't continue.  I have tried

1)  editing the registry (the office suite workaround - renaming the patches keys to patches_old)
2)  re-downloading the install file
3)  cleaning up temp files and rebooting
4)  verify free space (C:\ drive has 3GB free, E:\ has 20GB+ free)

Environment:  1 SQL, 2 WFEs and 1 Application/Index/CA Server.

I would like to mention, we had a lot of trouble upgrading to IU, we had to detach a content database, then reattach -  we had to find an orphahed site and remove the reference.  I have a feeling this is playing into the corrupted database error, but I'm not sure what we can do at this point since we were last able to update to IU successfully.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi SharePoint Admin/Experts,

sql server 2008 r2 install does not create database engine, also mmc creates error "Failed to create

I am loading sql server 2008 r2 developer edition into Windows Vista Home Basic. Product loads correctly with no error messages; except will not create database engine. And will not create integration services. When I try to open MMC, I will get error "MMC could not initialize the snap-in. Product may not have been installed correctly."

I understand this is a known issue for SQL Server 2008 RD installing on Windows Vista? What is the workaround or fix? Hot fixes available for this issue from support.microsoft.com do not install on my Windows Vista Home Basic machine.

SQL Engine Services and Domain Accounts Used as the Service Login

Looking for detailed information on what resources the MS SQL Engine reads, writes, and modifies in order to operate as designed.  Read this carefully.  I've been on the search but am not finding anything quickly.

I believe if a Windows domain account is being used for any of the SQL Engine services that account should not have any granular permission settings on any folders related to SQL operations, nor any granular settings on the registry or any where else.  Should be FULL CONTROL.  Microsoft wrote the program to run the way it does and we should not be the judge of what permissoins a service account should have so the program runs correctly.

I am troubleshooting unstable SQL issues and I am finding little tips here and there pointing in my mind to be the service account having too many restrictions on the SQL folders, Windows registry, and everything else.

My opinion would be, any domain account used as a SQL service account should have FULL CONTROLL on any folders used for SQL operations and FULL CONTROLL on registry operations and be part of NO group policies.

If anyone knows where I may find detailed information that is written in GOLD as to what permissions SQL needs to run, let me know.  Send a link.  I think there should be NO restrictions.  I haven't met anybody yet that really understand
