Cumulative Update 5 - wrong SQL 2008 version number

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

I installed Service Pack 1 for SQL 2008 on one of my servers. This server has multiple instances. In this case, it is the instance "SHAREPOINT2010" that is giving me difficulties.

For Sharepoint 2010, we need to install cumulative update 5. This update fails due to the fact I do not have the correct SQL version. It is expecting version 10.0.2531 (SP1), but it says I have the 10.0.1600 (RTM). When I check in my management studio and via the @@version, I do see the confirmation I have version 10.0.2531. (also see attached screenshot).

Does anyone know why the cumulative update fails to see the correct server version ? If I try to install it on another SQL 2008 SP1, it works fine..;

Thank you !

Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,

Version not changed after installing Cumulative Update

I installed the August Cumulative Update, but the version number didn't update on my system.  The install processed successfully (at least no errors showed up).  How do I confirm the installation?

Thank you.

Removing SQL 2008 R2 Cumulative Update 3

Cumulative Update 3 completely destroyed my SQL 2008 R2 installation.  We were hoping it resolved some of the issue we are seeing with R2 but unfortunately now SQL will not start.  Is there any way to completely remove cumulative update 3 from the server?  We are running SQL 2008 R2 on Server 2008 r2 x64.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 offline while installing Cumulative update

I've been asked to install SQL 2008 CU 10 for SP1 and was wondering if the sql server is still available during the install of the cumulative update.  Is a restart necessary after installing a cumulative update?  I don't have a test machine and I need to apply it to a production server.

2008 R2 Web Service URL - just shows empty page and SQL version number

In SQL Server 2008 R2 I installed reporting services.

When I go into the Reporting Services Configuration Manger and then Web Service URL and click the hyperlink it just goes to an empty looking page.

localhost/ReportServer - /

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 10.50.1600.1

The Report Manager URL works fine.

I have uninstalled and re-install Reporting Services two times now and changed the URL address several times too.  Still it's always stuck on this page.

Any ideas?

cumulative update 4 for 2008 R2

Thank you.

Ran the executable  381569_intl_x64_zip.exe and get prompted for the password.    Doesn't accept the password supplied in the same email.    No error, just nothing happens and nothing is extracted.

Password is 6 characters long and starts with a pound sign (#).

Trying the download again after a second request.    Noticed the password is the same.

Any ideas?

Installing service pack for SQL 2008 (SQL 2008 R2) after cumulative update packages

First of all, sorry for my English. I have a question.

Whether we should first remove cumulative update packages before install service pack in SQL 2008 (SQL 2008 R2) as it was in SQL 2005?

I don't found such information in available links, for example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958734/en-us

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

Transferring data (on update) from SQL to SLQL (2008

Hi there,   we are having 2 MS SQL 2008 servers, where the first one is our main machine where our ERP (Navision) is running on. Now, due to a customer request, I need to send data from our main sql server into our second sql server. But not everything, only some specific datasets (only if the specific customer is affected)... not only on inserts, but also on updates and on multiple tables.   I am not quite sure which technology to use for that, I tried to read something about Integration Services and Trigger, but as I am not really into both of them and not sure what technique would be the most suitable, I'd like to ask the experts here for some advice.   The affected rows might be around 2-10% of our total inserts / updates a day.   Any help would be appreciated!

MSAS 2005 vs 2008 - different results of an UPDATE CUBE instruction

Hi ALL!   When moving from SSAS2005 to SSAS2008 I have a problem with write enabled cubes. On SSAS2005 UPDATE CUBE instruction occures almost instantaneously but on SSAS 2008 this takes few seconds. I created a cube with one dimension and one measure for testing. No aggregations, fact table initially empty, measure has 3 elements. Profiler shows that SSAS2008 UPDATE CUBE instruction initiates cube processing, but SSAS2005 doesn’t do this. What's wrong? Please, help!
