Scripts not read when in head tag

I just upgraded to VS2010 if that matters.  I'm learning JQuery and noticed that scripts don't work if they're in the head tag.  Also, I need the script tag with type="text/javascript" in the head (with nothing else) in order for the JQuery scripts in the body to work.

Very bizzare, any suggestions?

With a separate script tag in the <body> with my JQuery script, this works

<head runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" />
<script type="text/javascript">

This doesn't:

<head runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" />

Persist large dataset across ASP.NET pages. No database

Can anyone give me suggestions on how to implement the following requirement?

1. A online wizard (step-by step operation) processes user requests across several ASP.NET pages.  The session data is stored in memory until the user submits the request.  Once the request is submitted, a XML file is created and the data are passed to XML.

# Case Study: The parent page has a "select" button.  Click "select" will pop up a child page.  The users can select 1000+ items from a datagrid in the child page.  Once the user clicks "confirm", the selected items in the child page will be populated to the selected item gridveiw in the parent page.  The user can keep selecting more in the child page and the selected items will be appended to the gridview in the parent page.

- What's the best way to extract strings from a text file and convert to a dataset in memory and then present it in a datagrid in UI?

- What's the best way to persist and manipulate a large dataset across pages?  Session? or ViewState? Can it be accomplished by LINQ?

The app doesn't interact with a DB.  Once the request is submitted, it will convert the in memory data to a XML file.  What technology can be used to accomplished this?&nb

Read Excel file from Web Application (C#)

I have a web app where user uploads a file.

File is saved in server locally and I want to read some data from it.

Currently my development  server has office 2003.

So do I need office 2007 in order to be able to  read an excel from office 2007 ?

What are other requirements  ?

I tried a test, using

Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook wrkBook; // = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook();

wrkBook = excelApp.Workbooks.Open(@"C:\www\excel_files\b.xls", ....);

But When trying to open the file I get the error:

Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

So I'm wondering what I'm missing.

How to read value of CheckBox in EXCEL sheet

I am using OLEDBConnection (@"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;") to connect to the EXCEL file and read contents. When I read the contents, I get all the contents from the excel sheet but i dont get contents for checkboxes placed inside.

My Excel sheet contains set of checkboxes and I need to know If they are checked or not.These checkboxes are controls which are added from Developer tab in EXCEL.

I dont want to use Excel Assemblies for reading contents as it is not recommended. And also i am using OLEDBconnection and want to stick to this .

Awaiting replies from you guys. Thanks in Advance.

How to read Excel table?

If I  use Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to retreive for example named range or sheet from Excel and use it as data source for some server control on the ASP page, everything works fine. But when I try to get table from Excel like this: "select * from [Table1]", debugger complains that database engine could not find object Table1. So how should I reference Table1 in Excel file so that the database engine could find it?

OutOfMemory when resizing image

I've been pulling my hair out on this one. I have a image gallery module in asp.net. I'm using Telerik RadUpload to upload a sinlge image. I then save the image on the server and create a thumbnail and save it as well. There is no loop involved and is one at a time. It always seems to work when I run it locally on Windows 7 (IIS7) but on the server IIS6 I keep getting OutOfMemory errors. The images I'm trying are barely 1MB so not huge files. I've gone through google and bing over past several days and can't seem to find a solution. In my resize methods I'm using the "using" statement on the image reference, etc. I can pretty much always make it fail with the 3rd line below:

ruPhoto.UploadedFiles[0].SaveAs(Server.MapPath("~/DesktopModules/Gallery2/Photos/" + newPhotoName));
System.Drawing.Image photo = System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromFile(Server.MapPath("~/DesktopModules/Gallery2/Photos/" + newPhotoName));
//System.Drawing.Image img = new System.Drawing.Bitmap(photo); <--- will cause outofmemory error

if I just use the photo variable then the OutOfMemory will occur later in the resize code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
