Full Farm Backup Fails on Windows Sharepoint Services Search Database

I am just now starting to us central administration to backup the entire sharepoint farm.  All content backups fine except for the Search Database.  In looking through the backup log, it appears that the search database may not exist.  How can I determine if the search database actually does exist and if it does not can it be recreated?

problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all, i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to.  i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance. we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server.  everything seems to work fine.  but as you know, the default database names are horrendous.  i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin database. the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_<guid> the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem. we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx).  it says to enter the following command: $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver" however, i get an error about identity being null.  no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application.  but the real problem comes the error it throws:   Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : The requested database move was aborted as the associated search application is not paused. At line:1 char:54 + $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication <<<<  -Identity "Search Service Application" -DatabaseName "ShareP

Manually specify database name for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Search Service Settings

Hi Team,

I wanted to specify database name manually for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Search Service under Application management | Manage services on server | Sharepoint Foundation Search . Under Search database settings,  it says 'Use of the default database server and database name is recommended for most cases. Refer to the administrator's guide for advanced scenarios where specifying database information is required.' . Specifying database name field is coming grayed out and can't have option to specify my own database name. Any help to specify database name for foundation search will be highly ppreciated.

"The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible." when Search service started

I have installed  WSS 3.0 SP2 on Windows 2008 x64.

All is ok, except the search service.

When it start there are any error :

Application / Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search /2430 /  The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder.   (0x80070660)

Application / VSS / Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine RegOpenKeyExW(-2147483646,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag,...).  hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.

And when the service index the content (error message are translated, then :

Application / Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search / 2436 / Filter process have been interrupt (0x80040db4)
Application / Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search / 2424 / Start update is impossible because content source aren't available.

I have check the temp folder of the service account (C:\Users\<service account name>\AppData\Local\Temp) and they look fine. (service account / system / administrators = full control)

The "Windows SharePoint Services Security Account Requirements" document is helpless.

If I add service account to local administrators group, I have no more issue.

Point In Time Recovery of Database with Full-Text Search enabled SQL 2005

Is this possible?

Backup made at 10:30

changes made in system

Tail of the log backup taken at 10:35

Restore to point in tim 10:33

At this point I get the error System.data.sqlclient.sqlerror: The File "sysft_yadayada_1" was not fully restored by a database or file restore.  The entire file must be successfully restored before applying this backup set.

BUT when I restore the database to most recent possible I have no issues..

when I do a select * from sys.master_files    sysft_yadayada_1 does not exist in that list, but  sysft_yadayada_5 does... When we were initially configuring fulltext search for this application we had a couple hiccups first till we got it working and thats the filename that ended up sticking.

Windows Service Applications Tutorials

You can easily create services by creating an application that is installed as a service. For example, suppose you want to monitor performance counter data and react to threshold values. You could write a Windows Service application that listens to the performance counter data, deploy the application, and begin collecting and analyzing data.

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink
