Date picker format -> Preview vs Report

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I'm at my wits end!

When previewing a report on one of our machines, the date format for a parameter insists that en-GB dates are invalid (dd-mm-yyyy-). Instead, it requires en-US (mm-dd-yyyy). When deploying the report, it goes back to the correct format of en-GB.

Bear in mind, this works on all of the rest of our development machines exactly as required. Only this one machine doesn't work.

I've tried: -

  • Setting the report properties to United Kingdom - it already was
  • Changing ReportViewer.aspx to include --> <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportViewerPage" Culture="en-GB" %>
  • Ensuring that regional settings (control panel->regional and language options) is setup to English -United Kingdom. It all already was (regional, location, language and advanced tabs all setup to UK)
  • Ensuring the browser on the machine is setup to English -United Kingdom, it already was
  • Adding <globalization culture="en-GB" uiCulture="en-GB" /> to web.config
  • Updating BIOS (not my idea, but was getting to the point where I'd try anything! Basically, the BIOS has the date in the US format, so despite my reasoning that it's irrelevant due to regional settings, we upda

MDX::Data Picker Format incompatible with my date key

I've searched the forum and net but can't find anything tht exactly explains how I can fix my problem.   The closest I've come is this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/92ccae0e-a764-49b5-a3a6-f0acd111372d

I'm using Datepicker to pass date parameters to an MDX query.

The Date Picker uses the format YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MI:SS  e.g 2010-01-01T00:00:00

My Key is 20100101

I've tried various things but can't get it to transform the datepicker date correctly.  Two examples below.   Does anyone have any insight in to what else I could try.

SELECT STRTOMEMBER("[Date].[Date].&[" + Format(CDate(@StartDateParam), "yyyyMMdd") + "]") : STRTOMEMBE

convert date from datetime picker to sql format

I have an application that uses a time date picker control to display a date from a sql (sql 2000) table. Casting from the table to the control works fine, but writing a selected date from the control back to the database does not, I was under the impression that a datatype 'date' in VB would be compatible with SQL datetime datatime, and obviously it is from sql to vb as the date is correctly displayed in the control reading from the table. How do I need to convert the value from the date time picker control to write into sql ?

Preview Crystal Report from ASP.net without passing parameters

Hi Everyone,

Sorry couldn't think of any better Subject..

I am developing a User Reports Module using C#.Net using Visual Studio 2005. Basic purpose of this module is to allow user to be able to run their own Crystal Reports. i.e. if Users have their own Crystal Reports specific to their needs then we allow them to save them and view them from our user reports module.

So when user saves any report we save it on server and save the Physical path of that report in database. Now when user tries to view the report I get the location from database and load it. Which works ok. The issue now is those reports which have got parameters.

I am not saving any information about parameters in their reports. So I do not have any information about Report Parameters.

This same application exists in VB6. What that VB application does is opens the Crystal Report and then Crystal report asks for needed parameters exactly as it will do if we try to open a crystal report using crystal report and preview it from there it asks for parameter values.

How can I do that in C#.Net.

VB has got code like this

BIDS 2008 Crashes when preview a large report

Studio 2008 SP1 BIDS crashes whenever it tries to render a large report. It does not matter if the report was created with the wizard or manually. It does not matter if it a stored procedure or just SQL. We have several developers in our shop and we have all experienced the same problem. We have to limit the result set with something like "SELECT TOP 1000 ..." while we are developing and then remove the limit or filter when we deploy. After it is deployed there is no problem with the reporting engine rendering the html. The problem is only in Visual Studio 2008 BIDS. When it tries to render a large report it crashes. I think probably because it not rendering html but attempting to draw a representation of the report in the client area of the window. We would like to see a better solution. Any ideas?

SQL Server Reporting Credentials work when I edit my DataSource but when I try to preview a report I

I have a 64-bit SQL Server 2008 SP1 installation with SSL enabled, Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services are all running.

When I go into Business Intelligence Studio (on a 32-bit Windows XP client) and create a DataSource it works fine when I click on "Test Connection" but when I try to use the same connection to run a report it fails with an error message of "Login failed for user sa".

I have saved the password so it isn't something as simple as that.

I am obviously using the "sa" user, not passing through Windows credentials, the password is definitely correct as if I make it wrong on purpose it doesn't work when I click on "Test Connection" any more.

I have tried the OLE-DB connection type and also the "Microsoft SQL Server" connection type, both show the same behaviour.

On the server I can see in the SQL Server logs, "login failed for sa user, password does not match" type errors; loads of them.

I can connect to SQL Server Management Studio using the same credentials and it is all fine.  So this is just a problem with SSRS.

This DOES work for some users.  I can save the project, load it on another PC and it works fine.  Getting the same user to log on to my PC doesn't help so it must be something about my PC??

Problem deploying custom report item. Items shows in preview screen in VS, but not in server deploye

I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:

1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio

2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:

      <ReportItem Name="PedigreeChart" Type="Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.PedigreeChartRenderer, Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart" />

3. Updated the rssrvpolicy.config file with the following entry.

Description="This code group grants Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll FUllTrust permission. ">
                                Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll" />

I've also tried using the StrongNameMembershipCondition

while running new report, doesn't indicate if previous report preview page is open

i am using asp.net to run the reports from the parameter page.

When i run a report by passing report parameters, the reporting services report opens in the report_preview.aspx page.

Now, if i do not close this report_preview.aspx page and go to new parameter page and run another report, the report_preview.aspx page doesn't show the new report. It just refreshes the old report.

This can be because, when the run button of any parameter page is executed, it opens the report_preview.aspx page by executing the following query under page_load button.

            ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(string), "openNewWindow", "window.open('../Report_Preview.aspx','ReportPreview','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,')", true);

But clients get confused for everytime to close previous preview page and open the new report.

IS there any way to handle it please

Is there any way to generate the new ssrs report on the same report_preview.aspx page by refreshing it ( by replacing previous report by the new one) ?

Printing and Print Preview hangs on a large report

Using SQL Server 2008 R2 Cumlative Update #4 (build 10.50.1746)

A report that is 119 pages long hangs after page 113 in both the print preview and printing.

A different report that is 90 pages long hangs on page 60 in both the print preview and printing.

These reports worked fine before applying the cumulative update #4.

Print always hangs from VS2008 report Preview window

I am creating a report in VS2008 that displays with no problem in the Preview window, but whenever I click the Print button from the Preview window while in VS2008, the print window (Printing page 1 of ..) appears but never gets past page 1 and never prints.  If I deploy this report to a SQL 2008 Report Server and run it from Report Manager, I can print from there.  Unfortunately, when it hangs in VS2008, the only way I found to fix it is to kill VS2008 from Task Manager.  I have tried printing to 2 different printers, I tried running small one page reports, it does not seem to matter how small or simple the report is.  I have been using VS2008 for reports off and on for about 4 months, and while I think I have printed from here before, I really cannot say 100% that I have been able to print from the Preview window in the past 4 months.  I cannot find a post anywhere about printing from VS2008 creating problems.  Any ideas of where the problem might be will appreciated.

difference running from query designer to report preview

So I have a simple query and parameter in query designer and I run it and it does what I expect.  This is a simple test query/report and I'm just trying to learn how to get parameters working like I'd like.  The single parameter is there to filter by year-month ...and it does in designer.   When I go into report preview, I get the parameter list of values I expect but wne I go "view report" I get:

Query execution has failed for dataset "GetInfo".

Query (1,72) the restrictions imposed by the CONSTRAINED flag in the STRTOSET were violated.

Here is the dataset for GetInfo (which runs in designer):

And here is the dataset for the parameter:

 {} ON 0, NONEMPTY([Pay Date].[Year-Month].Members, [Measures].[Pay Amount])
ON 1 FROM [Pays Data]

I did change the generated dataset on the parameter since by default it would list all the year-month combinations

How To Set a Date Format In GridView Using ASP.NET 2.0

A very common desire is to set a column of a gridview to display just the month, day and year of a DateTime type. The problem is the by default, the HtmlEncode property of the boundfield attribute (
The problem is that if this field is enabled, you can not pass format information to the boundfield control. That is, if you try the following code, you will not get the desired result.

jQuery Date picker Implementation in ASP.NET

I've posted a wrapper ASP.NET around the jQuery.UI Datepickercontrol. This small client side calendar control is compact, looks nice and is very easy to use and I've added it some time back to my control library.

This is primarily an update for the jQuery.ui version, and so I spend a few hours or so cleaning it up which wasn't as easy as it could have been since the API has changed quite drastically from Marc's original implementation. The biggest changes have to do with the theming integration and the resulting explosion of related resources.

If you want to use this component you can check it out a sample and the code here:
