Possible to restore deployed Reports from SSRS/Reportserver DB to a .rdl file?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I mistakenly deleted some files from a Business Intelligence Development Studio project, however they are deployed on the server. Is it possible to restore these .rdl files in some way from the deployed copies? I seem to remember doing this on a previous version but no longer see this option.

Thanks in advance.

Passing parameters between 2 SSRS reports deployed in report manager

I have created 2 reports in SSRS. In my 1st report there is a tablix, which contains many rows. The text in these rows act like hyperlink and upon click navigate to my 2nd report. This functionality is working fine in Visual Studio and also in report manager. But as soon as I deploy my reports in SharePoint site (using a page viewer web part), this functionality breaks. I can see when I take my mouse near the text in the Tablix it shows a URL like http://IP Address/Reportserver/

It's evident that the URL here is not forming correctly. Can anyone help me out in this issue. In my report for navigation purpose I had used Action -> Goto Report (report 2) and passing the parameters there.

Thanks in advance,

SSRS Reports deployed on sharepoint giving Permission Errors.

Dear All

We recently migrated our sharepoint from standalone to distributed environment.Everything is working fine except SSRS reports.

MOSS is on Server X and Databases,Report Server is on Database Y

Report Server is configured to run in SharePoint integrated mode.

Central Admin Settings are set as recommended by microsoft for distributed environment.

When i try to access reports or Report DataSource i get this error.

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The permissions granted to user 'EMS\bmsadmin' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user 'EMS\bmsadmin' are insufficient for performing this operation.

I have looked around everything and all setting seems fine. Single Domain Account is used for all services and Report Server service account as well.

Share Point integrated SSRS reports rendering when access from external site

Our client has a SharePoint (moss2007) site on Windows 2008, SQL2008 R2 Enterprise, and Reporting service is integrated with SharePoint

The authentication on the share point integration is set to windows, else the authentication for the SSAS datasource gives and error

The extranet zone ( forms) and intranet (Customer Forms) and default (Windows) zones are all access from inside the firewall and the reports render in each with no issues, as the datasources are configured to pass a sql username and password.

However, report rendering is a problem from the internet (external site), the following error is displayed:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is avai

SSRS - Where are the Sharepoint Report Usage Reports provided by Microsoft

Microsoft provided 3 example reports for Sharepoint report usage. Does anyone know where they are located? I used them about 2 years ago.

attempting to restore to a new DB and it keeps trying to save the mdf file as the original mdf file

This is using SQL Server 2005. I've had several problems and this is where I've ended up. 1. Despite the claim that this will create a new DB it doesn't.  I was getting errors about the new DB not having the specified logical file name (despite the new DB not existing).  At the time I was specifying the logical file name as it appeared in the backup. 2. if I manually create the DB I still get the error as above unless I manually change the logical file name via sql management studio.  This is meant to be an automated solution so that is not accceptable. 3. I am now giving it the logical file name of the DB that I want to restore onto (if it doesn't exist I create it), but now it's trying to save the file with the old physical file name, which is absolutely *not* what I want. My instincts tell me I need to change the logical file name in the database I'm wanting to restore onto, but I don't know how to do this via SMO.  All of the explanations I've seen are through the SQL Management Studio and that is not acceptable as this needs to be an automated solution. I have copy/pasted the code from the msdn examples verbatim changing only the dbName and the .bak file location and it has consistently failed. Here is the code in it's current incarnation. var serverName = @"myServer"; var dbName = "MIQDesignTest3"; var backupFileN

Error in RESTORE in LOG FILE. Anyway to exclude it?

I'm trying to install a database (on a SQL Server 2008 machine) with test data sent by a partner company in the form of a .BAK file. (Version of SQL Server they are using unknown). I'm using this script: Use Master RESTORE DATABASE XEMS FROM DISK = 'C:\temp\xemstest6-29.bak' WITH REPLACE, MOVE 'XEMS' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS.MDF', MOVE 'XEMS_Log' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS_Log.LDF' The Restore process churns for a while, then I get: Processed 2576 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS' on file 1. Processed 5 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS_log' on file 1. Msg 3283, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 The file "XEMS_log" failed to initialize correctly. Examine the error logs for more details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. At this point the database is unusable - trying to do anything with it produces an error indicating the database is still in a Restore state. There is some problem with the LOG portion of the backup, which I really don't need anyway. I'd like to just NOT restore the log. Came across this article which seemed to refer to the exact problem I'm having...  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915385/en-us They offered this suggestion: "Use the WITH NO_LOG clause during the restore process." However - in checking the RESTORE syntax.... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr

Printing Issue in SSRS reports

Hi,   We developed around 70 ssrs reports for our new application. Its like, all the report names are mentioned in the left hand side and if we click it,.Net calls the SSRS reports and shows in the Right hand side.   The issue now is with the Printing. My client complains that they are not able to print the Reports properly. Some of the columns are moved to the next page,it seems.Reports are having different number of columns and we dont know how to resolve this issue.Should I use Landscape or Portrait?..If I give the table's width in the place of Report's width, will it work?    Your help would be greatly appreciated.

SSRS 2005 external images won't display - images on DIFFERENT file server

Hi, Been having trouble getting external images to display in reports rendered on SSRS 2005. Images are displayed as a red X. However, my scenario is different from some of the examples I have read about. - The images are stored on a file server that is DIFFERENT from the box on which the Report Service is running. For various business reasons I cannot copy the images locally to the Report Service box. I am using "file://fileserver/path/to/image.jpg" to retrieve the images. - Since the file server does not have IIS installed, I cannot access the images using the URL method (http:// access). I need to use the file:// method. Currently I am prototyping this setup on my test box, which is running XP Pro and IIS 5.1. The Report Service is installed on this same box. I am currently testing this through the Report Manager web site (http://servername/Reports). The images are displayed using the Image control, which I added to the report using the visual report designer in Visual Studio 2005. It is set up with source=External and with "file://fileserver/path/to/image.jpg" path values. File names are retrieved from our database and file paths are built dynamically using a data processing extension I have written. My best guess as to why this is happening is that the ASPNET service account on my test box does not have access to the particular share on the file serve

Restore MDF file only from bak file

Hello Friends i want to know that whether there is any provision in SQL Server 2008 to restore MDF file only from the bak file excluding the log file. i just want to know because, the bak file which i have is close to 4-5 GB, but after specifying the details while restoring the database, then it is consuming close to 80 GB as 30GB for the MDF file or 50 GB for log file. But say for once, the total hard disk is 80 GB. all the given figures are approximate except for Hard Disk size. in that case, i only want to extract the MDF file while excluding the LOG file for the database to attach. Looking for favorable replies.

Schedule reports with integrated authentication SSRS 2008

Hi All,  Having an issue with SSRS 2008 at the moment, trying to setup subscriptions. Our system is configured so that any one of 10 users can login to the SSRS website using their windows domain account, and then launch report builder to design and save reports.  This all works very well, however, they have a problem when trying to setup subscriptions - the famous "Subscriptions cannot be created because the credentials used to run the report are not stored....." What the message says is true - the credentials are not stored as they are supplied by the user when they login to report builder. Is the /any/ workaround at all that doesn't involve storing the credentials?  It seems totally crazy that they cannot be prompted for them when setting up the subscription.  For this application its 100% essential to make the user provide their credentials when running reports, because they each see a filtered subset of the data in the report model (this is controlled DB side depeding on the login account), so their domain account needs to be passed to SQL server to enable this filtering to work.  If we saved their credentials then they would see all the data..and thats nasty. The only workaround I can come up with would be to create  a separate datasource for each user and upload a separate model, but thats really nasty to be hones

ASP.Net event id 1334 SRS Reports site not available yet reportserver is

We have a SQL 2008 SP1 server running on Windows Server 2008R2. It holds the DataWarehouse for our SCOM2007R2 environment. Up until last month http://server/reports worked fine and allowed users access to out pre-configured reports. However it was noticed recently that this site is no longer available. Testing from localhost also failed, no permissions had been changed. However we are getting the following Event ID 1334 for ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0:- Failed to initialize the AppDomain:ReportManager_MSSQLSERVER_0 Exception: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException Message: Unrecognized element. using SSRS Windows File Share subscription to send file to sharepoint

Hello, I'm looking for the simplest way to automate sending SSRS reports to a Sharepoint document directory.  I know a document library is not a real directory but I am able to run copy scripts into one using the virtual path thats shown when I do Actions-> Open in Windows Explorer. However when I set up a subscription to send a report to this directory, I get an error: Failure writing file \\intranet\projects\docs\test.pdf : The network name cannot be found.  Just checking if anyone knows if this should be able to work or not. Thanks

How to programmatically hide SSRS reports

I've built a process to deploy several reports to SSRS in either native mode or SharePoint integrated mode.  I'd like to programmatically hide several SSRS reports when deploying them to a sharepoint site.  I believe I need to do something like this -  http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1357.  Any pointers?  I'm new to SharePoint development. Thx.

SSRS 2008 SP1 - Enabling "My Reports" allows users delete reports in folders they should not be able

Issue: Users that have “My Reports” SSRS Role assigned to them can delete reports in other “shared” folders. My understanding was that they will be able to do the tasks specified only  in the “My Reports” workspace not everywhere. I have “My Reports” enabled via SSMS. Users have “My Reports” role assigned to them at the root level. My SSRS Role “My Reports” has only the following tasks assigned: 1.       View Reports 2.       Manage reports 3.       View Folders 4.       Manage Folders To test, I'm using Development version of SQL Server 2008 SP1. Thanks in advance, Martina
